Global investment activity fell by nearly a third in the second quarter of 2013, after two consecutive quarters of increases, according to preliminary estimates in the October 2013 issue of FDI in Figures.

Global FDI flows picked up in the first half of 2015, increasing by 13% compared to the second half of 2014. If we exclude the drop in the first half of 2014, global flows have been on a rising trend since the first half of 2013.

Global FDI flows decreased by 3% to USD 788 billion in the first half of 2017 compared to the second half of 2016. The overall decrease was due to an 11% drop in Q2 after increasing 3% in Q1.Inflows to the EU decreased by 46%, partly due to a drop in the United Kingdom from the very high levels recorded in the second half of 2016, while outflows decreased by a more modest 12%.

I-81 CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PLAN MEETING TO BE HELD WITH FALL TRANSPORTATION MEETING ON OCTOBER 25 IN ROANOKE

SALEM – In conjunction with the regularly scheduled fall transportation meeting for the Salem District, the third and final meeting in the series to receive input on the I-81 Corridor Improvement Plan will be held on October 25 at the Holiday Inn Valley View located at 3315 Ordway Drive NW in Roanoke. Prior to the Interstate 81 meeting, the fall transportation meeting will start at 2 p.m.  Attendees can view displays to learn about transportation planning, interact with subject matter experts, and review the proposed local and regional projects that have been submitted for scoring through SMART SCALE, an objective, data-driven prioritization process to score projects according to critical transportation needs. The Interstate 81 meeting will begin at approximately 3 p.m. and will focus on recommended projects and funding sources.   Following a presentation, there will be an opportunity for the public to provide comments about the I-81 study. Individual formal comment will be limited to three minutes. Feedback will be considered as team members finalize the I-81 corridor study and prepare a draft plan report in the fall.  Recommendations will be presented to the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) for adoption prior to the opening of the 2019 General Assembly session. TRAFFIC ALERT FOR OCTOBER 22-26, 2018 - Highway Work Zones in the Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley:  Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

OVERNIGHT RAMP AND LANE CLOSURES AT NORTHBOUND I-81 EXIT 220 IN AUGUSTA COUNTY OCTOBER 21-25

The on-ramp and off-ramp between northbound Interstate 81 and Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) at exit 220 in Augusta County are scheduled for overnight closures and detours during the week of October 21-25, 2018. A northbound I-81 right-lane closure will also be in place during this time period. These traffic restrictions allow milling and paving of existing ramps, and an extension of the acceleration lane from Route 262 to northbound I-81.

A PORTION OF ROUTE 602 IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE WORK FROM OCTOBER 29 TO NOVEMBER 9

 A portion of Route 602 (Walkers Creek Road) in Rockbridge County will be closed for bridge work at a tributary to Walkers Creek.  The closure begins on October 29 at 8 a.m. and lasts until November 9 at 5 p.m.

EXPECT DELAYS ON I-64 WESTBOUND ONTO I-81 SOUTHBOUND IN AUGUSTA COUNTY FROM OCTOBER 29 TO NOVEMBER 1

This week motorists should expect delays in the vicinity of Interstate 64 exit 87 westbound at Interstate 81 exit 221 southbound in Augusta County. There will be bridge deck work on the southbound ramp bridge from I-64 westbound to I-81 southbound. The right lane will be closed.
