macos 애플, macOS 카탈리나 배포 시작 By macnews.tistory.com Published On :: Tue, 8 Oct 2019 21:11:09 +0900 애플이 macOS의 차세대 버전인 카탈리나(10.15)의 배포를 시작합니다. 이후에도 트위터 등이 아이패드 앱을 카탈리스트를 통해 맥으로 다시 가져올 것이라고 밝히고 있습니다. macOS 카탈리나는 모하비를 사용하고 있다면 시스템 환경설정의 소프트웨어 업데이트에서, 그 이전의 버전에서는 맥 앱 스토어를 통해 업그레이드가 가능합니다. macos A demonstration and Walkthrough of Safari Web Apps on macOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Mon, 09 Oct 2023 03:38:11 +0000 In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to create and use Safari website shortcuts or "Web apps" on macOS.This feature allows you to create shortcuts to websites on your dock that when opened, behave as if the website was its own app. This may be useful for VoiceOver users, as web apps are included when pressing Command-Tab to cycle through open apps, making them easy to switch to and from. In addition, these web apps can be mapped to commands in Keyboard Commander so they can be accessed with a single keystroke. To create a web app, go to a website in Safari and choose File > Add to Dock. Change the name and icon of the web app if you wish, and click Add. It can then be accessed via the Dock, or in the Applications folder in your Home folder, accessed by choosing Go > Home in Finder, or pressing Command-Shift-H. To map the web app to a command in Keyboard Commander, open Voiceover Utility > Commanders > Keyboard, click Add, type the key that you want to open the app when pressed, choose "Custom commands > Open application" from the menu, and navigate to and select the web app in the Open dialog. macos How to Encrypt an External Disk on macOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Mon, 08 Jan 2024 04:21:07 +0000 In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to encrypt an external disk on macOS for improved security of the disk's contents. To encrypt a disk formatted as Apple File System, (APFS) connect it to your Mac, focus on it on the Desktop or Finder sidebar, and choose "Encrypt [disk name]" from the context menu (accessed by pressing VO-Shift-M). You'll then be prompted to create a password for the disk, which will be required to access its contents. As this password is the only way to access the disk's contents, it should be reasonably difficult for others to guess, but easy enough for you to remember. The next time you connect the disk to your Mac, you'll be prompted for this password, and given the option to remember it in your Mac's Login keychain. This way, you won't need to enter the password when connecting the disk to your Mac, but others will if connecting the disk to theirs. Saved passwords in your Mac's Login keychain can be viewed and edited in Keychain Access (located in the Utilities folder). If the disk you want to encrypt uses a different file system, like Mac OS Extended or XFAT, you must erase and reformat it as APFS. Note that this process will erase all data on the disk, so be sure to move anything you want to keep to another location before doing so. To erase and reformat a disk:Open Disk Utility (located in the Utilities folder) and choose View > Show all devices (or press Command-2).Select the top level of the external disk in the table and choose Edit > Erase (or press Command-Shift-E). If you’re unsure of what disk is what, you may wish to disconnect other external disks to avoid inadvertently erasing the wrong one.In the resulting dialog, give the disk a name and choose “APFS (Encrypted),” from the format popup menu.Enter the password you want to encrypt the disk with, click Choose, and then click Erase to begin the process.Note: APFS-formatted Disks are not natively compatible with non-Apple platforms like Windows or Linux. To use an APFS-formatted disk with a non-Apple platform, use something like APFS for Windows, or APFS for Linux. Full Article
macos How to Disable Predictive Text Suggestions on macOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Sat, 16 Mar 2024 22:37:14 +0000 In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS.As you type on your Mac, macOS by default attempts to finish words and phrases it thinks you're trying to type. If you find that hearing these suggestions spoken by VoiceOver is more distracting than helpful, you can turn them off by going to System Settings > Keyboard, clicking the Edit button under the "Text input" heading, and toggling the "show inline predictive text" switch off.transcription:Disclaimer: This transcript is generated by AIKO, an automated transcription service. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers’ names, voices, or content.Hey, Apple vissers, Tyler here, with a quick tip for how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS.By default, as you type on your Mac, macOS attempts to finish words and phrases that it thinks you're trying to type. While this may increase the speed of text entry for some, if you're a voiceover user, you may find that hearing these suggestions spoken while you're trying to type is more distracting than helpful, in which case you can turn them off.To do that, go into system settings, keyboard, hit the edit button under the text input heading, and turn the show inline predictive text switch off.And I'm going to demonstrate that now, I'm going to system settings on my Mac, k for keyboard, vio command h to get to the text input heading, vio right, edit, and at the leftmost of this dialog, k, that's what we want, vio right, scroll area, interact with vio shift down arrow, and vio right until I find the setting I want, show inline predictive text, if I vio right once more, show inline predictive text off switch, it's off for me because I turned it off.If it's on for you and you want to turn it off, just press vio space, then stop interacting with the scroll area, with vio shift up arrow, and vio right to done, hit it, and here we are back in keyboard settings. So now as you type, you will not hear text suggestions predicted by macOS, which could almost ironically increase your speed of text entry because this feature is off and is no longer giving you distracting or potentially distracting feedback. So that's a tip for how to disable predictive text suggestions on macOS, I hope you found it helpful.Peace.Thank you. macos A Demonstration and Walkthrough of VoiceOver Command Customization on macOS By www.applevis.com Published On :: Mon, 16 Sep 2024 18:46:35 +0000 In this episode, Tyler demonstrates some of VoiceOver's command customization capabilities on macOS.If you find a particular VoiceOver command difficult to perform, or discover a function in the Commands menu that doesn’t have a default command, you can assign your own custom command to it. In addition, you can configure commands to open apps and run scripts, so you don’t have to locate them manually.Commands can be configured by going to VoiceOver Utility > Commands, selecting the “Command set: user” radio button, and clicking “Custom commands edit.” For ease of navigation, you can choose the type of commands you want to view or change, such as numpad, trackpad, keyboard, etc from the "Filter commands" popup menu, or use the search field to locate a particular command. In this dialog, commands can be presented in either column view, which organizes commands into categories like general, information, and navigation, or table view, which displays a list of all VoiceOver commands, including user-configured ones, which you can navigate with the up and down arrow keys. To add a command, in column view, locate the command, interact with the table of assignments, and specify your new one using the "Add input" popup menu. To add a command when in table view, click the Add button, interact with the table, and specify the input assignment from the popup menu labeled "None: edited." Then, press VO-Right-Arrow passed an empty cell to another popup menu, and choose the command you want your new input assignment to perform.transcript:Disclaimer: This transcript is generated by AIKO, an automated transcription service. It is not edited or formatted, and it may not accurately capture the speakers’ names, voices, or content.: Hey, Apple Vissers.Tyler here. With a demonstration and walkthrough of VoiceOver command customization on macOS.Prior to macOS Sequoia, VoiceOver included several user configurable sets of commands, known as commanders, for the numpad, trackpad, keyboard, and quick nav. With macOS Sequoia, these commanders have been consolidated into VoiceOver's broader command set, meaning in addition to the existing modifiers that you could use, like the option key for keyboard commander, you can also create your own command assignments using the VoiceOver modifier, which may be useful if you find a particular VoiceOver command difficult to perform, if you find a command in the commands menu, for example, that lacks a default assignment, or if you want to create a custom command to open an application. So to demonstrate this, I'm going to open VoiceOver utility on my mac with VoF8.Opening VoiceOver utility.VoiceOver utility.VoiceOver utility.Window.Utility categories.C for commanders.Commands.Commands.VRA.VoiceOver modifier.Control option or caps lock.VoiceOver modifier.VoiceOver modifier. This is the setting that was located in the general category in prior versions of macOS, but options are the same.Control option, caps lock, or control option, or caps lock, which is the default.VRA.Also control VoiceOver with. Also control VoiceOver with.Numpad.Uncheck.Checkbox.Numpad, which was formerly known as Numpad Commander. If you want to use, if you have a… Full Article

macos Apple Seeds Second Public Betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 With New Apple Intelligence Features By www.macrumors.com Published On :: Tue, 12 Nov 2024 10:05:44 PST Apple today seeded the second public betas of upcoming iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 updates, allowing the public to continue testing new features ahead of when the software launches. The public betas come a day after Apple provided developers with new betas. Public beta testers can download the updates from the Settings app on each device after opting into the beta through Apple's public beta testing website. Note that Apple has also released public betas for watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, and the latest HomePod software. iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia introduce the next Apple Intelligence features, including the first image generation capabilities. The update adds Image Playground, a new app for creating images based on text descriptions. You can enter anything you want, though Apple will suggest costumes, locations, items, and more to add to an image. There are options to create characters that resemble your friends and family, and you can choose a photo for Image Playground to use as inspiration to create a related image. Elements added to Image Playground creations are previewed, and there is a preview history so you can undo a change and go back to a prior version. While Image Playground is a standalone app, it is also integrated into Messages, Notes, Freeform, and more. Image Playground does not make photorealistic images and is instead limited to animation or illustration styles. The update also adds Genmoji, which are customizable emoji characters that you can create based on descriptions and phrases. Like Image Playground creations, you can base them on your friends and family, with the data pulled from the People album in Photos. You can also make characters using basic elements, and you'll get multiple Genmoji suggestions to choose from. You can create Genmoji using the emoji keyboard. Genmoji are limited to iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 right now, and will be coming to macOS Sequoia later. Siri in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 has ChatGPT integration. If Siri is unable to provide an answer to a question, Siri will hand the request over to ChatGPT, though Siri will need user permission first. ChatGPT will answer the question and relay the information back through Siri. ChatGPT can be used to create content from scratch, including text and images. No account is required to use ChatGPT integration, and Apple and OpenAI do not store requests. If you have an iPhone 16, there's a Visual Intelligence feature in iOS 18.2 that provides information about what's around you. Open up the camera and point it at a restaurant to get reviews, or point it at an item to search Google for it. Some other Visual Intelligence capabilities include reading text out loud, detecting phone numbers and addresses to add them to Contacts, copying text, and summarizing text. Apple added Writing Tools in iOS 18.1, but in iOS 18.2, you can more freely describe the tone or content change that you want to make, such as adding more action words, or turning an email into a poem. Apple Intelligence now supports localized English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the UK in addition to U.S. English. Wait List If you've already been testing Apple Intelligence and are opted in, you will have access to Writing Tools, ChatGPT integration, and Visual Intelligence automatically. There is a secondary waiting list for early access to use Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand. You can sign up to get access in Image Playground or in the areas where you access Genmoji or Image Wand. When you request access, you are added to a wait list for all three capabilities and you'll get a notification when the features are available for you to use. Apple will roll out access over time. Availability and Compatibility The public betas are available on all devices, but the Apple Intelligence features require a device capable of Apple Intelligence. Apple is still working on refining the new Apple Intelligence tools, and the company warns that Genmoji, Image Wand, and Image Playground can sometimes give you results you weren't expecting. Apple is collecting feedback on these experiences and will refine them over time. Release Date Apple is expected to release the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, watchOS 11.2, tvOS 18.2, and visionOS 2.2 updates in early December.Related Roundups: iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS SequoiaRelated Forums: iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS SequoiaThis article, "Apple Seeds Second Public Betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2 With New Apple Intelligence Features" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums Full Article Featured iOS 18 macOS Sequoia

Here's how.External drives are vastly cheaper than Apple's storage upgrade pricesApple's New Mac mini is a stunning bargain for its price and its performance — but maybe only in its base configuration. macos How can I subscribe to shared Google calendars from MacOS and iOS? By ask.metafilter.com Published On :: Fri, 08 May 2020 09:11:16 -0800 Two organizations I belong to publish Google calendars of events. I would like to subscribe to these from my Macintosh and iPhone, so they appear on the calendars I look at every day. I don't want to change which calendar apps I use. How can I do this most easily? On the Macintosh I use Apple's calendar app. On the iPhone I use Fantastical (which is just accessing the same calendar data that Apple's iOS calendar uses). The shared calendars I want to access have not been made available in ical format. Is there any way I can subscribe to them from my Mac and iPhone?More details follow:I also have a Google calendar which I do not use except when I am forced to by other aspects of the Google ecosystem (e.g. Google Meet invitations). The shared Google calendars I want to see are not public. They relate to kid things so they can't be public. I've been invited to join these calendars. When I click the invitation link they get added to my Google calendar. So when I go to calendar.google.com I see my own Google calendar, and I also see that I am subscribed to these other calendars and I see their events in their own colors.I have subscribed to my Google calendar from my Macintosh and my iPhone by adding my Google account to those devices. However, that only brings in the events from my own Google calendar. It doesn't transitively bring in the calendars that I'm subscribed to via my Google calendar. Is there a way I can make it do that?I would rather not ask the calendar owners to make changes to their calendars, but I will if that's the only way to get these calendars onto my Mac and iPhone. If that's necessary, what should I tell them to do? I don't want to ask them for an iCal link, because then they would have to manually retrieve and send out that link to everyone wha wants it. Ideally they'd be adding iCal capability to the calendar so that anyone with access could subscribe to it that way.So many people use Google calendars and so many people have iPhones and Macs, I'm really hoping this is possible. macos Getting Snowflake (the open source graphical SSH/SFTP client) to run on macOS By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Wed, 12 Feb 2020 11:58:20 +0200 I don't usually write similar blog posts, but I've been really enjoying Snowflake recently. What's Snowflake you ask? Well, it's a new open source graphical SSH/SFTP client which makes working with remote servers a breeze. It works like Panic's Coda when it comes to managing content on remote servers, e.g. browse files and have a terminal open at the same time. But most importantly, it's cross-platform. And I'd like to share with everyone how to easily get it to run on macOS. At the time, Snowflake's developer has only released binaries for Windows and Debian/Ubuntu with a macOS version planned for the future. However, since the app is based on Java, the developer also provides Snowflake as a .jar file which we can run anywhere, including macOS. So here are the steps to get Snowflake to work on your Mac: Step 1 Uninstall that outdated Java version on your Mac. Ironically the best guide is on Java.com, so follow it to the letter: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml Step 2 If you currently go to Java.com, the available release for macOS is pretty outdated. And apparently it relates to recent changes in Java's licensing by Oracle. So how do you get the most recent Java release for macOS? Well, you can either signup for an account at Oracle.com (the looooong, hard way) or just grab a ready-made binary for macOS, provided by AdoptOpenJDK (the easy way). AdoptOpenJDK is a new community effort (backed by the likes of Red Hat/IBM, Amazon, Microsoft to name a few) to create ready-to-install & cross-platform binaries from OpenJDK, the open source implementation of the Java platform. You can download the most recent runtime for Java from AdoptOpenJDK (version 13 at the time of writing) here: https://adoptopenjdk.net/?variant=openjdk13&jvmVariant=hotspot (it's a .pkg file to install) Step 3 After you install the related .pkg file, it's time to download Snowflake. Head over to https://github.com/subhra74/snowflake/releases and grab the .jar file from the latest release available (v1.0.4 at the time of writing - https://github.com/subhra74/snowflake/releases/download/v1.0.4/snowflake.jar). Now we'll make a shortcut to easily launch Snowflake. Create a folder called "Applications" (if it doesn't already exist) in your home directory and place the snowflake.jar file in there. Then open up your terminal and do: chmod +x ~/Applications/snowflake.jarln -s ~/Applications/snowflake.jar /Applications/Snowflake.app That's it. You'll now find "Snowflake" in your Mac's apps and you can easily launch the app from there, or just drag and drop its icon to your Mac's dock. (If you get a security warning when you open the app the first time, it's because the app is not signed by Apple. Just go to Preferences and then "Security & Privacy" and you should see the option to allow the app to launch always.) Full Article Blog

macos macOS Kernel wait_for_namespace_event() Race Condition / Use-After-Free By packetstormsecurity.com Published On :: Wed, 18 Dec 2019 14:08:33 GMT In the macOS kernel, the XNU function wait_for_namespace_event() in bsd/vfs/vfs_syscalls.c releases a file descriptor for use by userspace but may then subsequently destroy that file descriptor using fp_free(), which unconditionally frees the fileproc and fileglob. This opens up a race window during which the process could manipulate those objects while they're being freed. Exploitation requires root privileges. Full Article
