New Apple Web Page Directs Customers to Its Online Shopping Services

Apple has launched a new web page that brings together links and information about its online services for customers shopping from home during the global health crisis.

Titled "Everything you love about our stores is online," the new catch-all page links from the Apple.com home page and includes details about no-contact delivery options, Apple Specialist help, financing and credit options, Apple Trade In, Apple Card, order status checking, service and support.

The page also links out to "Today at Apple - At home," a series of fun how-to videos to help users get creative during the ongoing stay-at-home measures, and there's a series of category links for customers to explore products on Apple's online store.

Apple has been gradually re-opening its retail stores in countries where lockdowns have eased, although some are operating on limited hours.

Apple CEO Tim Cook last week said that Apple was going to reopen stores in Austria and Australia this week, and Apple's sole Apple Store in Vienna will be reopening on Tuesday, May 5.

We're still waiting to hear exactly when stores in North America will reopen, but Cook also said that Apple is planning to reopen a few stores in the U.S. starting in May. Store openings will be staggered, with Apple evaluating data that includes local guidelines and recommendations before reopening.

JAW-DROPPING Evidence Of Election Fraud & Media Blackout

The evidence is adding up that this election is a SHAM! Exit polls do not add up on the Democratic side and regularly predict better results for Bernie than the voting machines are telling us! The mainstream media won't even come close to touching this, and in fact they're even attacking Lee Camp for bringing it up. Don't miss this segment of Redacted Tonight! Continue reading

Pinuping

This past Sunday was a great Chicago fundraiser for Pinups for Pitbulls, a Holiday Market that I organized. I was really proud of the event, despite the fact that nature did NOT cooperate and it was blizzarding! The event was featured, along with my photo, in Time Out Chicago and we had a whole lot of really great vendors and rescues join us at Anything is Pawsible, the training facility where both Addy and Probert have been trained!

Overall, despite the weather, the event was a success and we raised around $2500 for the pups!

And I got to wear a Santa dress...

And our fellow brown dog, Fifty the two-legged pittie was there!

The event went so well that I'm already thinking we might do it again next year!!!

Helping

Covid-adjacent but mostly about adapting to circumstances rather than the illness directly.

If you're suddenly homeschooling your children, or if you're suddenly having to teach online when you're used to face-to-face, there are several things I might be able to help with. I have a lot of experience and knowledge of education, all age groups from about aged 7 to university-level. My current job is primarily about online learning so I know quite a lot about both the pedagogy and the technology. I can offer advice on how to teach a range of topics, what online resources are available, or conversely how to adapt the expertise you already have to a virtual context.

I'm no expert on homeschooling, so I'm probably not the best person to help you plan your curriculum, decide your educational philosophy etc. I'm thinking more on the individual topic or activity level. My professional training is in life sciences, and I have a fairly solid grasp of maths, biology and chemistry. Plus quite a lot of experience of tutoring in random other subjects like literature and religion and social sciences. I'm less useful at sport and creative arts, but I can still probably help to find resources and give advice on a general level.

Another thing I can offer, and would actually be quite happy to do, is I can give some direct external input into your teaching. Sometimes children don't take learning entirely seriously, or get over-invested emotionally, if teacher is also their parent, and a new person can be useful. So I can give a virtual lesson if we can arrange a time and topic, or I can set a novel task for a pupil, or I can look at and give helpful, constructive comments on something your children have created, even grade or mark things if you're into that. Feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable discussing details in public.

Aside from that, I wanted to plug covidcoffeecorner, which is a lovely little community where people post a different topic every day and a few dozen people chat about it. So if you miss mostly topic-centred communities from LJ (or even older systems) it might be worth having a look. There's also fictional_fans which has picked up a lot of activity lately, if you are interested in fandom-related (in the broadest sense) topic-focused discussions.

I assume few people are actually short of reading material, but I wanted to recommend a couple of collections.

  • honigfrosch is gathering poetry in various languages.
  • The Decameron project has a bunch of quite well-known speculative fiction authors writing stories in response to the pandemic. (Not all of them are directly about disease; it's modelled on the original where fictional people who were sheltering from plague wrote a bunch of stories.) It's hosted on Patreon but available without payment.
  • angelofthenorth made a second language café post last month, and it didn't get nearly as much attention as the first, so I reckon now would be a good time to revive it, if you feel like practising foreign languages with friendly people.

Basically it works like this, a ping is basically the equiviant of you shouting at the top of your lungs “Hey over here”. It sends a notice to the search engines and directories that you have content in need of indexing, or that content has been updated.

Opinion: Haiti’s Electoral Shambles, CEP Officials Can Either Fix the Mess or They Go to Jail

    By WADNER PIERRE

For too long, people paid by Haitian people to do their job have not been held accountable. Now, it’s the time for the Haiti’s electoral officials – the Conseil Electoral Provisoire (CEP) – to either fix the electoral mess or go to jail.

It is despicable that a CEP official threatened to shut down the whole electoral process instead of collaborating with a government-backed commission to investigate massive electoral frauds that they fail to avoid. Marie Carmelle Paul Austin, a member of the electoral council, told a radio in Haiti’s capital that the electoral council members are ready to depart in bloc “If this commission’s purpose is to redo or verify the work that the CEP has already done, the council members will resign.” What Madame Austin did not say is that when you betray your people, violate your country’s laws and contribute to social and political destabilization you should be in jail.

For too long, Haitian people have been struggling for participative democracy and social justice. They’ve been ignored by Haitian officials who primarily seek to satisfy the interest of their international backers like the United States, Canada and France by either plotting electoral coups. Although the Martelly administration finally established a commission to address the latest electoral disaster, it is uncertain that anything will come of it.

Martelly himself was a beneficiary of an electoral fiasco. How can one believe he will accept any recommendation asking the removal of his handpicked candidate? This move reminds me of an article by Haiti’s renowned author Edwidge Danticat: Sweet Micky and the Sad Déjà Vu of Haiti’s Presidential Elections.
