SPC Without the “S” - Dealing with Automated Data Flows

Statistical process control (SPC) charts are crucial for process stability, especially with improved data collection. Introduced by Walter Shewhart in the 1920s, SPC uses random samples to estimate statistics and assess variation. With better data availability, techniques like the Rbar method, which estimates standard deviation using subgroup ranges, need reevaluation.

NPCAP 1.60 high CPU usage with pcap filter that does not pass anything (Win10)

Posted by Vladimir Soldatov on Sep 17

Hi guys,

I've a setup (Win10, Intel X520, NPCAP 1.60) with relatively high traffic
around 700 Mbit/s and I am trying to test the following cases:
1. Capture everything with empty pcap filter and just print stats with some
period calculating captured data size
2. Capture nothing with an intentionally created filter that does not match
the received traffic at all.
3. Capture some subset of traffic like 10%.

In all the cases, CPU usage...

We are happy the Court has clearly recognized the importance of religious liberty to our nation.”

PCC Press Release on PA House Passage of Marriage at 18 Bill

PA CATHOLIC CONFERENCE APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF MARRIAGE ACT HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference applauds today’s passage of House Bill 360, which, in addition to addressing some covid-19 related concerns, establishes 18 as the minimum age for marriage in Pennsylvania. The bill has been supported by the PCC since its inception, particularly as a means to help fight human trafficking. “This is good legislation for a number of reasons—first and foremost that it will help to end a problem in the law that has allowed girls as young as 12 to be married in PA,” said PCC Executive Director Eric Failing. “This can place them in a dangerous situation where they can be victims of domestic violence and exploited in sex trafficking. Advocates believe there are over 2,000 children who have been married in Pennsylvania.” The PCC has supported several measures designed to fight human trafficking, including the Safe-Harbor law that passed last session and the Buyer Beware act that passed earlier this session. Failing thanked the sponsor of the bill, Sen. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford, Franklin, Fulton) for his leadership and persistence on seeing the bill through.   Pennsylvania is one of 27 states that do not have a minimum age to marry. Currently, the state permits a minor under age 16 to marry with parental consent and a court determination that the marriage is in the best interest of the minor. The law also permits a 16 or 17 year old to marry with only parental consent.   The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference is based in Harrisburg and is the public affairs arm of Pennsylvania’s Catholic bishops

OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina facilitates visit to National Museum for children from Zepce and Maglaj

SARAJEVO, 9 June 2016 – The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in co-operation with the Fojnicani-Maglaj Association, facilitated today a visit to the National Museum of BiH in Sarajevo for 50 students and teachers of Zepce’s Fra Grga Martic and Maglaj primary schools and their branch schools in Bradici and Tujnica.

The aim of the excursion, a rare opportunity for the children to visit the capital, was to promote cultural values and help build a more tolerant and cohesive society in the Maglaj and Zepce municipalities.

During their visit, the students and school principals had the opportunity to meet with Jonathan Moore, Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. “We should invest more effort in creating opportunities for children to spend time with each other and learn from each other,” said Moore.

“The children visited the Museum, which is always very inspirational for our pupils. They get creative and express their impressions in the classroom through essays and art projects,” said Ivo Bilonic, Principal of Fra Grga Martic primary school from Zepce.

Osman Mujdza, Principal of Maglaj primary school, said: “Our school has had a very successful co-operation with the OSCE Mission to BiH so far. This activity enables the children not only to familiarize themselves with the cultural and historic heritage of BiH but also to forge closer ties among each other.”

Strengthening multi-ethnic co-operation and tolerance in local communities is an important part of this visit. “We want to contribute to developing a culture of peace and creating better conditions for those living in rural areas,” said Davor Supukovic, member of the Steering Board of the Fojnicani-Maglaj Association.

The visit was organized as part of the OSCE Mission’s efforts to create closer links between schools and local communities through education about the diversity of the peoples, religions and traditions of BiH as a source of respect and pride.

[Used] Dell UltraSharp U3419W 34" UWQHD IPS 60Hz Curved Monitor (NO STAND) 3M Warranty, $199 + Del / $0 C&C @ BPC Tech

Ridiculous value for a monitor with these specs, even with no stand and shipping costs - paid $38 for StarTrack to Brisbane area, so $237 total, ordered Sunday arrived today.

Should go without saying it's not an ideal monitor for gaming, but honestly it would be plenty enjoyable for many titles imo (just not competitive shooters etc).

The screen was well packed and works perfectly, has a great picture and there were no scratches or dead pixels on my unit.

Specs:

Size & Resolution: 34-inch, UltraWide, 3440 x 1440 (WQHD)
Aspect Ratio: 21:9
Panel Type: IPS
Colour Coverage: 99% sRGB
Brightness: 300 cd/m²
Ports: USB-C (with power delivery up to 90W), HDMI, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, audio out
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Features: Built-in KVM switch, Picture-by-Picture, Picture-in-Picture
Weight: 8.2kg without stand

Pros:

  • good bit newer than popular U3415W from recent deals
  • decent brightness at 300 cd/m²
  • USB-C with solid power delivery at 90W
  • USB hub and KVM switch
  • excellent overall value

Cons:

  • 60Hz peasantry
  • useless "fast" overdrive mode (visible overshoot like if mouse trails were enabled, just don't)

Before anyone has a sook about the "free shipping over $199" like on that last thread, it's a pretty heavy unit at 8.2kg (not incl. packaging) and the exclusion is clearly stated on BPC's shipping policy page.

Cheers for the mad bargain BPC, couldn't be happier.

Full Trailer for THE IPCRESS FILE Miniseries

After a tantalizing but all too brief teaser, a full trailer has been released for ITV's upcoming miniseries version of Len Deighton's famous first spy novel, THE IPCRESS FILE. THE IPCRESS FILE was first filmed in 1965 starring Michael Caine, and the film is an absolute classic. But as Deighton readers know, it necessarily omitted much of the novel. While director Sidney Fury wisely focused on the London portions of the book, it's clear from this trailer that the miniseries will include Harry Palmer's memorable sojourns to Beirut and a Pacific atoll, as well as a snowy landscape that was filmed in Finland, a location not found in the book, but featured in Deighton's later novel about the same protagonist (unnamed on the page) BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN. Perhaps the miniseries will already lay the groundwork for things to come. I'm already hoping it's a smash hit and gets multiple seasons (largely because I desperately want to see the second novel in the series, HORSE UNDER WATER, adapted for the screen; producer Harry Saltzman skipped it in the Sixties). But I'm getting ahead of myself. For now, we've still got THE IPCRESS FILE to look forward to! And based on this trailer, I can hardly wait! (For the moment I can't embed it due to privacy settings, but you can follow the link to watch it on Vimeo.)

THE IPCRESS FILE premieres on ITV in the U.K. this March. In America it will air on AMC+, but no date has so far been announced.
Thanks to Jack for the link!

Your SSD Is Not As Capacious As Micron's Beastly New 60TB PCIe 5.0 Storage Drive

When you think of bulk storage, you probably still think about hard drives, and that's fair enough; spinning rust still offers superior value in terms of price per gigabyte. When storage density is more important than value, though, solid-state drives win again. That's because there are SSDs like Micron's new ION 6550, which can store up to
