Solar Tariffs: Throttling America's Biggest Job Creation Machine

The U.S. Department of Commerce just announced that it will add high tariffs for solar modules imported from China. The Canadian government is also investigating the adoption of similar measures, following recent complaints filed by Ontario-based solar manufacturers. With the solar industry in hypergrowth, it’s not a surprise that these governments are interested in boosting new jobs, protecting their economies, and fostering the solar sector. The problem is that tariffs are a short-sighted approach that actually attack the future of North American solar on its home soil, and likely destroy more jobs than they create.

Chocolate with a Latin American twist | Annalisa Barbieri

These Argentinian alfajores might just be the best chocolate treat you have not yet heard of

Tasting your first alfajor may be a defining moment. Mine was in my kitchen, on a lockdown Sunday in April. I cut it in half, and offered half to my eldest, who declined it before changing her mind when she heard the noises I started to emit.

Alfajores (pronounced al-fa-ho-res) are traditional Latin American treats, often sold in kiosks, and are usually two soft biscuits around dulce de leche and coated in chocolate; veritably God’s own creation.

Covid-19: isolated and alone, Britain has become the sick man of Europe

The disasters of Trump, Brexit and coronavirus have been made all the worse by our weak and incompetent leaders

Britain is in a lonely place right now. It resembles the scene of a bad traffic accident where shocked passers-by look away with pity and horror in their eyes. Alarmed by what they see, governments around the world practise their own form of social distancing. Once again, Britain is the sick man of Europe.

Lethal mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic is not the sole reason for this un-splendid isolation. The disease’s sudden onslaught is the third national disaster in almost as many years. The first was the decision to walk away from Europe. The second was the advent of Donald Trump and his anarchic America First agenda.

Itoje and Mako Vunipola will stay at Saracens, believes England coach Mitchell

  • Sarries players urged to focus on international future
  • ‘I’m quite confident that they will make good decisions’

Maro Itoje and Mako Vunipola have been urged to make “good decisions” for their international careers by the England defence coach, John Mitchell, with both players yet to commit to Saracens next season.

Itoje had hoped to receive dispensation to continue his England career while spending next season on loan in France at Racing 92 rather than in the Championship with relegated Saracens. However, that move was blocked by the other Premiership clubs since it did not meet “exceptional circumstances”, the loophole that allows England’s head coach, Eddie Jones, to select overseas-based players in the event of an injury crisis.
