Here’s What We Do NowA Personal Note

Being right never felt so horrid. Before the election, I wrote, “How Trump Won.” And on Election night I waited for the returns to make a fool of me. Instead, the returns made the fool a President. I Almost Didn't Vote

I don't think I could have voted for Biden. I held my nose and voted for Harris. I was never going to make a thing of it.  I wasn't going suggest anybody shouldn't vote.

The thing is, my vote doesn't matter. I mean, yah, there's that chance the election would have come down to the state of Pennsylvania, and the state of Pennsylvania would come down to one vote - mine! - but while we like to imagine these things, they aren't very likely.

Absent mandatory voting, elections depend on lots of people deciding that it does matter if they vote, even though it really doesn't.  Not individually.

Why did I almost not vote?  No of course I didn't want the bad orange man to win - and ultimately that's why I voted - but also I've been watching a genocide unfold for past year and I've watched Biden's smirking ghouls at State on that subject and I've watched almost the entire Dem-industrial complex go after the people who opposed that genocide, or at best stay silent.

These people are so rotten and so horrible and many of them would be on trial in a just world.  People were put on trial for less. "We" certainly supported putting people on trial for less, instead of opposing it in every way possible.  We went to war - supposedly - over less!

So much for the international rules-based order.

I'm an engaged voter.  I understand the issues.  I understand harm reduction.  I understand that the bad orange man is very bad indeed.  I have no belief in accelerationism or fantasies about third party presidential runs.  I am not a narcissist about this stuff; politics is never going to be centered around my personal desires.

But how dare these fucking people make me vote for this.  How dare almost all of them, at best, stay silent.  What did they want to be in positions of power for?  Vacation homes and new boats?

It is, truly, a problem from hell, Samantha.

It Was The Woke Wot Did It

Every bad election - and even the pretty good ones - we have to try to remind them that being unwilling to take your own side in an argument is not actually clever politics.

If your genius centrist politics can be derailed by one viral tweet from an enby Portland barista - which is the argument of people like Reines even if they don't put it that way - then it is not actually genius politics.

Old age doesn’t come alone a case study on the impact of the ageing population on a Scottish local authority’s care at home service.

This research was undertaken by Stuart Fordyce as part of an MSc in Integrated Service Improvement (Health and Social Care) at the University of Edinburgh. It considers the impact of a rapidly ageing population on a Scottish local authority and its attempt to shift the focus to a more contemporary service provision. The aim is to explore what factors are inhibiting the effectiveness of enablement. Using a case study approach the research explored whether: (i) enablement is wholly effective in addressing the increase in current service demands; (ii) the approach adopted by the local authority is undermined as services are now over extended and are attempting to address competing objectives, and; (iii) the paradigmatic change across the sector in the future will materialise if organisations cannot create the capacity and infrastructure to enable change to occur

Home not Housing. Engaging with wellbeing outcomes

Home not Housing was one of five Scottish Universities Insight Institute programmes on Wellbeing. A set of ideas workshops explored the concept of ‘home’ from the perspectives of various academic disciplines – housing, planning, social work, healthcare – in order to develop a common vocabulary that will better inform policies relating to house-building, home-working, home-care and general place liveability. This blog records the discussions and findings of the workshops.

Planning in child protection

This project aims to identify factors which contribute to effective, child focussed, SMART plans for children by getting the views of social workers who work in child protection and those who chair child protection case conferences. It will consider ways of working in a more inclusive, collaborative way with children and their families, as well as ways to work more effectively in partnership with other agencies. It will also consider whether the Signs of Safety approach to child protection has a role to play in making plans more effective. The project is an IRISS project in partnership with East Lothian Council and is supported by WithScotland and Social Work Scotland. It is anticipated that the final report will assist with further development of positive outcomes for children and young people across Scotland.

Evaluation of sixteen women's community justice services in Scotland

In 2013-15, the Scottish Government funded 16 projects proposed by criminal justice partners across Scotland to develop community services for women who offend. Developments were based on existing service provision and to ensure changes could be sustained locally at the end of the funding. Funding varied in amount and timeframes. Most of the projects were undertaken by local authority criminal justice social work1 (CJSW) departments with partner providers, including public and third sector agencies. The national evaluation examined how the 16 women’s community justice services (WCJSs) were implemented and to what extent they contributed towards positive outcomes for women. A further aim was to build local capacity for self-evaluation in WCJSs. Findings were drawn from two phases of interviews with practitioners and women, secondary documents, and quantitative data for 1,778 women who were in the WCJSs between April and December 2014. This included outcomes data for 406 women.

The Individual Awards Pilot Scheme was run in Argyll & Bute and Edinburgh in 2014-15 and aimed to provide a small amount of additional financial empowerment to a number of individuals whose lives have been affected by dementia, to help improve their well-being and quality of life. Election 2024's Weirdness: Trump's Vote Claim, Russian Threats And Elon

Rachel Maddow reminds Americans how Trump told his followers, "You don’t need to vote. I have so many votes." The Republican candidate said multiple times that he had the votes he needed to become president, implicating something other than votes would give him power.

Votes are still being counted in many states, almost one week after the election. Republicans are close to getting control of the U.S. House but Newsweek reports many races are too close to call. I'm not ready to put on a foil hat but isn't it worth looking into some of the odd things surrounding the 2024 election?

I'm not saying the election was "rigged" or unfair. All I am suggesting is that there are strange things about the 2024 election that merit a second look. Since democracy of the free world is at stake, it's worth the trouble.

Trump Doesn't Need Votes and Secret With Moses Mike

As Maddow noted, Trump telling voters he doesn't need their vote is a red flag. The GOP candidate said it multiple times. Trump also made several comments about the "secret" he and Speaker Mike Moses Johnson had about the election.

Mexican American Man Voted For Trump Because Of Immigration

A.J. Bayatpour, a reporter for Channel 58 in Milwaukee, interviewed a man identified only as Mattaeo, a Mexican-American man and who voted for Trump. Wait for his reasoning:

MATTAEO: You know, with the future of America, you know, with Trump, I feel like it's always been better. You look at the past four years, you know, of living here, you know, we've seen a bunch of migrants coming in and, you know, that as well is a big thing. If you, you know, go to Chicago or even in this area alone, you see a lot of immigrants coming in and not many things being done about it, so.

BAYATPOUR: People are going to watch this story, Mateo, and they're going to say, if you're Mexican-American, why are you against the migrants?

MATTAEO: Why am I against the migrants? It's because I'm not more or less against it, but I do think it's, everything has a system that needs to be in place, and a lot of the system isn't going to what we, the people, I think should be going for, you know, for people whose family does live here, and it's trying to get, you know, an alliance program with the U.S. government to get their families from Mexico to over here is getting pushed out by people that we don't even know who's coming into the country, you know, just a bunch of Venezuelans coming, refugees coming, and none of it is being passed through, like, you know, the system of how the people, you know, designed it to be, and I think that's one of the main reasons.

Eric Hovde Needs To Sh*t Or Get Off The Pot

During the campaign, California banker Eric Hovde kept telling Wisconsinites that he would accept the election results, even if he lost. It's starting to look like just another one of the many lies Hovde tried to tell voters.

The election was a week ago and the results are in. Senator Tammy Baldwin won reelection by almost 30,000 votes. The Associated Press called it in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Baldwin gave her acceptance speech.

Also on Wednesday, Hovde issued a short statement that they were carefully monitoring to make sure every vote was counted. Since then, nothing. Nada. Zilch. No concession or anything. Not even a call for a recount. It's like Laguna Beach fell into the ocean or something. For all the bravado and machismo he tried to present with during the weekend, he turned out to be a big, old wussy.

As mentioned above, per Wisconsin law, Hovde is close enough to ask for a recount. However, he is not close enough to have the taxpayers pay for it. But after dropping tens of millions of his own dollars on the race, he's probably reluctant to throw away even more money. And it would be throwing it away. As the counties are finalizing their canvassing, there has been very little change in the numbers. Certainly not enough to change the outcome.

Hovde needs to man up and either call for a recount or do the smart thing for once and just concede. In other words, it's time to shit or get off the pot, dude.

The people of Wisconsin have the right to move on and move forward.

'I Wrote The Law': Warren Says Trump Already Committing 'Illegal Corruption'

Massachusetts Sen. Liz Warren called out Donald Trump for 'corruption' even though he hasn't been sworn into office yet. Who would have thought Trump would violate a law that Warren wrote before getting the keys to the White House -- besides all of us?

Trump has not submitted a legally required ethics agreement stating he will avoid conflicts of interest, which must be signed before the presidential transaction occurs. According to the Presidential Transition Act, the signed agreement was due by Oct. 1.

Warren took to Xitter, and she was not pleased, but it doesn't do any good unless something is done about it.

Xitter had some thoughts:

MAGA In A Nutshell: He's Like Hitler "But I Voted For The Man"

Sure.

Well as Trump himself said, "Hitler did some good things." And Mussolini made the trains run on time, though not really.

Source: Mediaite

A Pennsylvania voter named Matt Wolfson went viral with a stunning explanation of why he voted for President-elect Donald Trump — whom Wolfson says is “like Hitler.”
...
In a new election post-mortem by The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Julia Terruso, Wolfson provided the perfect conclusion to an article devoted to explaining why the premise that Trump is a fascist — put forward by Trump’s own former national security advisers and echoed by Vice President Kamala Harris — did not dissuade the state’s voters:

Ok, that's crazy enough, but the Inquirer also published some more details on Matt Wolfson today.
