Simultaneous topology and fastener layout optimization of assemblies considering joint failure. (arXiv:2005.03398v1 [cs.CE])

This paper provides a method for the simultaneous topology optimization of parts and their corresponding joint locations in an assembly. Therein, the joint locations are not discrete and predefined, but continuously movable. The underlying coupling equations allow for connecting dissimilar meshes and avoid the need for remeshing when joint locations change. The presented method models the force transfer at a joint location not only by using single spring elements but accounts for the size and type of the joints. When considering riveted or bolted joints, the local part geometry at the joint location consists of holes that are surrounded by material. For spot welds, the joint locations are filled with material and may be smaller than for bolts. The presented method incorporates these material and clearance zones into the simultaneously running topology optimization of the parts. Furthermore, failure of joints may be taken into account at the optimization stage, yielding assemblies connected in a fail-safe manner.

Method of optimizing capacitive couplings in high-capacitance nets in simulation of post-layout circuits

A method of asymmetric asynchronous decoupling of capacitors in an integrated circuit design is provided for faster simulation by circuit simulators, e.g. FastSPICE circuit simulators. This method includes removing a coupling capacitor from a list, which includes coupling capacitors that capacitively couple two nets in the design. The two nets have capacitances C1 and C2, and at least one of capacitances C1 and C2 exceeds a threshold. The coupling capacitor has capacitance Cc. When coupling capacitance Cc is low and only one of capacitances C1 and C2 has a low capacitance, then a forward capacitance can be used at whichever of the two nets has the low capacitance and a lump capacitance can be used at the other net for simulation. When coupling capacitance Cc is low and both of capacitances C1 and C2 have high capacitances, then lump capacitances can be used at the two nets for the simulation.

Method and system for three-dimensional layout design of integrated circuit elements in stacked CMOS

A method includes providing a design of a semiconductor device such as a stacked CMOS device comprising a plurality of circuit elements to be assigned into a layout of a plurality of tiers, and identifying at least one first type of circuit element within the plurality of circuit elements based on at least one predetermined criterion. Each respective one of the at least one first type of circuit element is to be assigned to a respective designated one of the plurality of tiers. The method further includes dividing the remainder of the plurality of circuit elements into at least two groups of circuit elements based on circuit density, and assigning the at least one first type of circuit element and the at least two groups of circuit elements to respectively different ones of the plurality of tiers of the semiconductor device.

Legalizing a portion of a circuit layout

A layout-legalizing system modifies a portion of a circuit layout that is selected by a user to generate a modified portion that satisfies a set of technology constraints and a set of design constraints. The system receives as input the set of technology constraints which a semiconductor manufacturing foundry requires the circuit layout to satisfy for manufacturability purposes. The system also receives a set of design constraints from the user which restricts how objects in the portion of the circuit layout can be modified to satisfy the set of technology constraints. The system can further receive a selection input from the user which identifies the portion of the circuit layout which is to be legalized. The system then modifies the identified portion of the circuit layout to obtain a modified portion which satisfies the set of design constraints and at least a subset of the set of technology constraints.

Verilog Code to Custom IC Layout generation

Hello everyone,

I am Vinay and I am currently developing some digital circuits for my chip design for my master's thesis at University at Buffalo.

I am fairly very new to Verilog and I don't seem to follow some of the things others find very easy.

Following are the things that I want to do to which I have no clue:

1. Develop certain arithmetic functionality in Verilog

2. Generate netlist for the verilog code

3. Feed the netlist file to Cadence encounter to be able to generate Digital Circuits' layout for my chip

I can use Cadence Virtuoso and Encounter for this but I don't know the exact procedure to get this done.

Could someone please describe the detailed process for doing the things mentioned above.

Thank you.

Get schematic to layout bound stdcells for array

I can get the bound stdcells using bndGetBoundObjects, but not get what each individual stdcell corresponds in layout.

Is there a way to get the layout bound stdcells of an array schematic symbol if the layout stdcell name do or do not match the symbol naming?

Once the schematic array stdcells are bound to the layout stdcells, how to get the correct terminal term~>name and net~>name?

Example of a schematic symbol and layout stdcell:

Schematic

INV<0:2>    instTerms~>terms~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "A" "Y")

                   instTerms~>net~>name = ("<*3>vss" "<*3>vdd" "in<0:2>" "nand2A,nand3B,nor2B")

Layout ( I know it is bad practice, but it happens )

stdcell1 instTerms~>terms~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "A" "Y")

             instTerms~>net~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "in<0>" "nand2A")

I23        instTerms~>terms~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "A" "Y")

             instTerms~>net~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "in<1>" "nand3B")

INV(2) instTerms~>terms~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "A" "Y")

             instTerms~>net~>name = ("vss" "vdd" "in<2>" "nor2B")

Error: CMFBC-1 The schematic and the layout constraints were not synchronized

Hi, I am in the middle of a design and had no problem going back and forth between schematics and layout. Now I am getting the error message below. I am using Cadence 17.2.

ERROR: Layout database has probably been reverted to an earlier version than that, which was used in the latest flow or the schematic database was synchronized with another board.

The basecopy file generated by the last back-to-front flow not found.

ERROR: Layout database has probably been reverted to an earlier version than that, which was used in the latest flow or the schematic database was synchronized with another board.

The basecopy file generated by the last back-to-front flow not found.

Error: CMFBC-1: The schematic and the layout constraints were not synchronized as the changes done since the last sync up could not be reconciled. Syncing the current version of the schematic or layout databases with a previous version would result in this issue. The  constraint difference report is displayed.

Continuing with "changes-only" processing may result in incorrect constraint updates.

Exciting Things on the Horizon For CSS Layout

Michelle Barker notes that it’s been a heck of a week for us CSS layout nerds.

  1. Firefox has long had the best DevTools for CSS Grid, but Chrome is about to catch up and go one bit better by visualizing grid line numbers and names.
  2. Firefox supports gap for display: flex, which is great, and now Chrome is getting that too.
  3. Firefox is trying out an idea for masonry layout.
