DNREC and the Division of Public Health announced today that three private wells tested Feb. 19 in the Blades area by the US Environmental Protection Agency had returned results exceeding the EPA’s national health advisory level for perfluorinated compounds (PFCs). DNREC and EPA immediately notified the property owners of the test results and provided home carbon filtration systems for their water supply.

Cancer screening and early detection efforts continue to drive down Delaware’s all-site cancer mortality rates, say Delaware public health officials. The US Air Force and Dover Air Force Base have notified Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and Division of Public Health, that four wells near the base sampled by the federal government for perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), have returned elevated levels of PFOS and PFOA above the US Environmental Protection Agency’s health advisory for these substances of 70 parts per trillion (ppt).
