The Church Is The Greatest Movie Trailer Ever

How the church can be a foretaste of heaven.

The purpose of a movie trailer is to give highlights of a forthcoming movie, creating “buzz” about it. And the ”buzz” compels people to see the movie. For example, the trailers for Avengers: Age of Ultron were incredible. They were so enticing that I couldn’t wait for the movie to arrive in theaters.

The church is a movie trailer

Did you know that the local church is to be like a movie trailer for the eternal church? The apostle John describes the eternal church in Revelation 5:6–12:

“And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, reach holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying,

’Worthy are you to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation,

and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,

and they shall reign on the earth.’

Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,

’Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!’” (ESV).

The eternal ...

Chemehuevi Indian Tribe v. McMahon

St. Pierre v. Retrieval-Masters Creditors Bureau, Inc.

(United States Third Circuit) - Held that unpaid highway tolls are not the type of debt that can support a claim under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). A driver who failed to pay tolls on the New Jersey Turnpike because his electronic payment account was in arrears filed a class-action complaint alleging that a debt collection agency used impermissible means to collect the debt. Affirming dismissal of his complaint, the Third Circuit held that highway tolls are a legal obligation in the nature of a tax that falls outside the scope of the FDCPA.

ev

Levins v. Healthcare Revenue Recovery Group LLC

(United States Third Circuit) - Reinstated a claim that a debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by leaving telephone voice messages that did not use its true name. The plaintiffs filed a class-action complaint alleging that the debt collector left pre-recorded messages on their phone that did not state the caller's correct name. Reversing the district court, the Third Circuit held that they stated a plausible claim for relief under the statute's true-name provision, though the panel affirmed the dismissal of their other causes of action.

ev

Easley v. Collection Service of Nevada

(United States Ninth Circuit) - Held that a bankruptcy debtor who sought damages for willful violation of the automatic stay was entitled to attorney fees on appeal. When an appeal is necessary to secure such damages, appellate attorney fees and costs should also be granted to a successful debtor, regardless of which party brings the appeal. Reversed the district court's order.

ev

Trinity 83 Development LLC v. ColFin Midwest Funding LLC

(United States Seventh Circuit) - Rejected a mootness argument in a dispute between an insolvent borrower and the holder of a mortgage note. Overruled In re River West Plaza-Chicago LLC, 664 F.3d 668 (7th Cir. 2011), holding that 11 U.S.C. section 363(m) does not make any dispute moot or prevent a bankruptcy court from deciding what shall be done with the proceeds of a sale or lease.

ev

In Re: Devan Dennis and Tyeane Halbert

(United States Seventh Circuit) - Affirmed. The Illinois Child Care Assistance Program could not collect overpayments made to debtors under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program who filed for bankruptcy.

ev

VanDevender v. Blue Ridge of Raleigh, LLC

(United States Fourth Circuit) - Held that plaintiffs bringing three wrongful death nursing home malpractice claims were entitled to punitive damages. The nursing homes argued that they were not liable for punitive damages because there was no aggravating factor justifying such an award, and the trial court granted their JMOL motion. Reversing, the Fourth Circuit held that the plaintiffs had presented evidence sufficient for a reasonable jury to award punitive damages under North Carolina law.

DeHoog v. Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV

(United States Ninth Circuit) - Affirmed the dismissal of a private antitrust action brought by consumers seeking to enjoin the largest U.S. beer producer from acquiring the second largest. The consumers argued in this action brought under section 7 of the Clayton Act that the merger would lessen competition in the U.S. beer market. Concluding that they failed to state a claim, the Ninth Circuit emphasized that the U.S. Department of Justice, as a condition of approving the merger, had required the company being acquired to divest entirely its domestic beer business.
