Sound Curtain, an accessibility feature introduced in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, silences all audio on your device, including VoiceOver speech. This is particularly beneficial for Braille users who need to concentrate on their Braille display without any auditory distractions.

To enable Sound Curtain, Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille, and switch on the Sound Curtain toggle. Alternatively, Sound Curtain can be toggled on and off from VoiceOver Quick Settings, accessed by performing a two-finger quadruple-tap from anywhere in iOS and iPadOS.

Bluesky, the social media platform whose interface most resembles Twitter, has picked up more than 700,000 new users since the election, as users seek to escape misinformation and offensive posts on X. Via The Guardian:

The influx, largely from North America and the UK, has helped Bluesky reach 14.5 million users worldwide, up from 9 million in September, the company said.

Social media researcher Axel Bruns said the platform offered an alternative to X, formerly Twitter, including a more effective system for blocking or suspending problematic accounts and policing harmful behaviour.

“It’s become a refuge for people who want to have the kind of social media experience that Twitter used to provide, but without all the far-right activism, the misinformation, the hate speech, the bots and everything else,” he said.

This Palladium Introduction course is based on the Palladium 23.03 ISR4 version and covers the following modules:

This course starts with an “Introduction” module that explains Palladium and other verification platforms to show its place in the big picture. It also compares Palladium with Protium and simulation and discusses its usage and limitations.

The “Palladium Flow” module includes two stages at a high level, which are Compile and Run. Then, it covers these stages in detail. First, it covers the ICE compile flow and IXCOM compile flow steps in detail. Then it explains Run, which is common for both ICE and IXCOM modes.

The third module, “Running Design on the Palladium System,” covers all the items required for running your design on the Palladium system, including:

• Software stack requirements
• Basic concepts required to understand the flow
• Compute machine requirements

In addition, this course contains labs for both the ICE and IXCOM flows with detailed steps to exercise the features provided by the Palladium system. The lab explains a practical example of multiple counters and exercising their signals for force, monitor, and deposit features, along with frequency calculation using a real-time clock. Or saving a clip for your personal records, like the footage of that time you yeeted an innocent citizen off the 50-foot wall of a castle town in Dragon's Dogma 2. We all do that, right? Right?

Rode has announced the Wireless Micro, a two-mic kit with a smartphone receiver and charging case that costs just $149. The idea is to help TikTok and other creators capture much better-quality audio than their smartphone's microphone can offer. 

The receiver unit connects to the bottom of your smartphone via a USB-C or lightning port. Meanwhile, the microphones (aka transmitters) attach to the subject via integrated clips or magnetic attachments, then capture what Rode calls "pristine" quality sound. Specifically, they offer a 20-20 kHz frequency range and 73 dB signal-to-noise ratio, with a transmission range around 330 feet.

To use it, simply connect the receiver to your iOS or Android device and it will take over as the system microphone. From there, everything is automatic, as the transmitter mics are automatically paired to the receiver and sound will be captured to your camera app of choice. Levels are automatically controlled with the company's GainAssist technology. 

The omnidirectional transmitters weigh just 12 grams (0.42 ounces) and are tiny enough to be discreet when clipped onto your subject. The built-in microphones use what Rode calls "acoustic chambers" with a patent-pending design. That supposedly lets you capture clear and intelligible audio while reducing wind noise, though a pair of windmuffs is also included in the kit. 

The Wireless Micro also includes a charging case that delivers two full recharges for up to 18 hours of battery life, while giving you a secure place to store everything. 

There are a few things missing, though. You can't connect an external mic to the transmitters, unlike with other Rode wireless mics or the DJI Mic 2. There's no smartphone Bluetooth capability, and it doesn't offer a 3.5mm connection for cameras — a feature that will supposedly exist on the rumored DJI Mic Mini. Still, this looks like a great option for creators who primarily use smartphones. It's now available in a two mic kit with a receiver and charging case for $150.
