5 Tips for DMO Managers with More Questions Than Answers

5 Tips for DMO Managers with More Questions Than Answers jhammond@desti… Tue, 05/07/2024 - 18:30

New DMO Managers Agree on 5 Pain Points

Your supervisor picked you for your position because you’re adaptable, committed, and creative. Still, you might wonder whether this job is for you. Managers I talked to at the PACE forum want help with five issues:

  1. The new DMO managers feel overwhelmed because they have too much to do.
  2. They need more guidance on how to keep members engaged and retain them.
  3. They worry about providing value to the community.
  4. New DMO managers are stressed about navigating their new roles.
  5. They want help with training and coaching teams.

Treat ‘em Right helps managers solve these problems and more with coaching, group training, and online courses customized for individual DMOs. Your first call with us is free, so contact us if you are interested.

Tip One: Prioritize and Delegate

You thought you joined an industry that values rest, relaxation, and recreation, but you are working long hours! We get it. You feel overwhelmed by what seems like three jobs in one. It’s time to prioritize:

  • Put your tasks in order based on 1) your deadlines and 2) which will have the most impact. Note: something due today is not necessarily more important than something due next week. Keep your goals in mind and prioritize what matters most.
  • Delegate non-essential tasks to team members, empowering them to take ownership. Effective delegation will reduce your stress and foster collaboration on your team.

If you’re not using project management software find one that works for you. Putting tasks in your computer will cut your stress because don’t have to try to remember 10 deadlines in your head. You might think you don’t have the money. One of the top project management software systems, Monday.com, has free subscriptions for one or two users. Other plans start at $20 a month.

Tip Two: Make a Membership Plan

You believe in your organization’s mission and want to help keep it strong. Retaining members is one of your top goals (and stressors). Yes, building and maintaining relationships with members is time-consuming. Realizing you cannot do everything at the same time, plan to meet who you can, and find other ways to connect with all your members regularly. That means planning.

Check out The Center for Association Leadership’s Guide to Membership Strategy to see what is working for others. The guide includes questions to ask yourself:

  • How are you engaging members and prospects who are in their 20s and 30s?
  • Is your online membership platform easy to use? Does it solve members’
    problems?
  • Are you fostering collaboration that benefits members? For example,
DMOs offer visitor experience education to members’ employees and many
    others who interact with guests.

Tip Three: Focus on the Visitor Experience

The constant pressure to provide value can keep you up at night. Ease your pain by focusing on what matters most – the visitor experience. DMOs have become experts in visitor experience education (VXE) with help from Treat ‘em Right. We customize VXE based on the needs of your members. Examples of successful VXE programs include:

  • Visit Manhattan, Kansas offers VXE to retailers, hotels, restaurants, attractions, and business community employers.
  • Destination Niagara Falls USA engaged taxi and ride-share drivers, travel
agencies, tour operators, and short-term rental owners in VXE.
  • The Pennsylvania Convention Center trained its union labor contractors.

We have received dozens of positive reviews on our VXE video series. We believe in video because people retain 95% of what they learn while watching a training video, compared to 10% of what they read. However, for some learners, our hybrid live sessions are best. It’s all about the learner.

Tip Four: Connect with Others in the Industry

In a 2023 survey, 40% of recent graduates said they had no training, onboarding, or support from their managers. If you are unsure of something, ask. Your manager should be clear about expectations on things like your work hours, deadlines, and what it will take to advance in your position. Other solutions for navigating new roles include:

  • Connect with experienced managers in the industry.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and webinars to learn from others’ successes and failures.
  • Look into Destinations International’s Young Professional Development Program and its 30 Under 30 program – a year-long networking and learning experience for emerging leaders. In an article on the DI website, a past 30 Under 30 participant says the program gave her purpose and a sense of belonging.

“Having peers who share similar struggles and passions has been transformative,” Juliet Velasquez, manager of client relationships and insights, Tourism Economics. “Through them, I've gleaned insights into leadership, skill development, and discovering my true calling.

Sign up to get notified when DI opens the next round of applications for 30 Under 30.

Tip Five: Find a Coach

Many DMOs do not have structured management training programs. That makes it more difficult for a new manager to learn their job. So, smart DMO executives invest in expert training, coaching, and consulting. Treat ‘em Right supports success with:

  • Skill Enhancement: Training programs improve managers’ skills, from leadership to communication. Our offerings include custom workshops and online courses tailored to the needs of each DMO needs. We start with helping teams get to know each other by taking an Insight Inventory.
  • Team Performance: Coaching helps managers motivate and guide their teams. Treat ‘em Right uses tools like the 5 Dysfunctions of a Team training to help new DMO managers become more productive and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Strategic Planning: We work with DMO managers who want a Visitor Experience Strategy that supports the goals of their organization. With the right training, coaching, and consulting you will have the confidence to lead
with passion. Contact Phil at Treat ‘em Right or call 314-221-6037 to talk about getting the support you want.

Did George Floyd Die Or Was He Murdered? One Of Many Ethics Questions NPR Must Answer

Since a Minneapolis police officer killed George Floyd on Memorial Day, NPR has faced ethical challenges every hour of every day, including how to describe the killing, how to use the audio of Floyd's last words, how to document Floyd's life and how to describe the mass demonstrations. The best answer to every one of these questions is: embrace precision, be descriptive, use more words. The more this happens, the better the journalism. When news organizations, including NPR, sometimes fall short, it's usually because of an attempt to economize words. This week we received questions and complaints from a number of listeners about a variety of topics. I have summarized them across four general questions that I put to two senior editors and one host. Here's a breakdown of the most frequent questions and the answers I received: Why do hosts and reporters say, "George Floyd died in police custody?" It seems like an understatement. That phrase does feel incomplete, even weak, given that

Bible Answers Live Celebrates Three Years on TV

In August 2021, Amazing Facts International took a significant step in live evangelism when it turned Bible Answers Live, its flagship radio program hosted by Pastor Doug Batchelor, president, into a format that people could watch on television.

Three years later, the video broadcast is still increasing in popularity and reaching thousands more for Jesus Christ. It has quickly gained an audience on AFTV, YouTube, the Good News Network (based in Phoenix, Arizona), and a variety of other local stations.

The radio version of the program, which has been providing Bible answers for 29 consecutive years, is heard on more than 400 stations—including SiriusXM, LifeTalk, 3ABN Radio, Strong Tower, and the Salem Radio Network.

People all around the world tune in to Bible Answers Live every week—including inmates across the United States. Pastor Doug and co-host Jëan Ross, vice president of evangelism, have received calls from Canada, Mexico, Australia, Dubai, Brazil, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, Africa, and more! Callers have ranged from 4 to 90 years of age.

Beginning August 4, Bible Answers Live will air live on Hope TV on Sundays at 7:00 pm Pacific, reaching a new audience with its interactive format. (Previous episodes on Hope have been reruns.) Says Pastor Doug, “We are grateful for the opportunity to air live on Hope TV. We praise God for using the program to reach people across the globe!”

Like Sitting Down With Listeners

Transforming a radio program into a television broadcast did not happen without some misgivings.

Pastor Doug shares, “We never thought people would want to watch a radio program, but it turns out people love the video broadcast! Our calls have increased so much since we started airing on TV. Sometimes, we really had to encourage people to call in with their questions. Now we just mention the phone number once or twice, and the phones immediately light up.

“The visual program communicates even more,” Pastor Doug adds. “On the radio, we can only read the amazing fact that starts the program. But now, we can show eye-catching pictures of the fact and put Bible verses on the screen. There is a downside, though,” he says with a wry smile. “Now we have to dress up and look respectable.”

One 16-year-old girl was transformed by her experience with Bible Answers Live. She writes, “I grew up being taught that the wicked burn in hell forever.” She told us about her panic attacks when thinking about dying lost and burning eternally. But then she started listening to Bible Answers Live and learned that God will not torture unrepentant sinners forever. She says, “I started to realize that I could now love God. Listening to your program changed my whole perspective. I now have peace.” [PQ-HERE]

A Beacon of Hope

Pastors Doug and Jëan typically take about 15 calls from viewers and answer them directly from the Bible during each dynamic 60-minute program. This format has engaged radio listeners for almost three decades, opening up the mysteries of Scripture to thousands of searching hearts.

Pastor Doug says, “I first realized how many people have Bible questions when I began doing public evangelism years ago. There was never enough time to cover all the subjects, so I added time in my programs for people to ask questions from anywhere in the Scriptures. It turned out to be the most popular part of the program!”

Bible Answers Live also serves as a powerful gateway that leads open-hearted listeners to a vast array of Bible resources on our website, YouTube, TV, social media, and more. Over 800 callers receive live answers to their questions each year, and nearly 2,000 people requested the free offers made available during the program in 2023.

Janet, a listener from Jamaica, says, “Bible Answers Live has been a beacon of hope for me. I have learned so much through the program.”

Bill, another caller, says, “Before I get to my Bible question, I just want to say that I was once an atheist, but then I started listening to your program out of curiosity. And then I got hooked—now I’m a baptized believer!

Do You Have a Bible Question?

Call 1-800-GOD-SAYS during the broadcast to have your question answered live on the air! Watch Bible Answers Live each Sunday at 7:00 pm Pacific on AFTV, YouTube, and Hope TV. Or listen on over 400 stations, including SiriusXM, LifeTalk, 3ABN Radio, Strong Tower, and the Salem Radio Network.

Program archives are also available 24/7 on YouTube and here at this link

My Review and Questions Answered on Vince Delmonte's Stage Shredded Status

Alright, today we're going to cover some common questions you may have
about the Stage Shredded Status DVD's before
they sell out...

==> Click here to learn how this transformation went down...

If you've seen the video but have some questions before ordering:

Question: Is SSS a documentary of Vince Delmonte's transformation or is there an actual program included?

Answer: Yes, SSS includes an entire program (covered on 3 of the 8 disks) and it was filmed with former NFL lineman and NPC level bodybuilder Ryan Watson! They are both pretty jacked up in this workout so it's pretty motivating too!

What Vince is going to do for anyone who orders is send you the printable workout sheets of the Stage Shredded Status workout program! Just email him your receipt to the help desk for proof of purchase!

You'll love this program because it relies on a variance of rep ranges to target, specifically, the Type 11a & Type 1a muscle fibers which create the training effect of
hypertrophy and strength-endurance. The combos generate a lot of lactate to boost growth hormone levels to assist in fat loss. You don't do super heavy loads because heavy lifting does not involve enough mechanical stress to promote fat loss.
Plus, you would not normally lift super heavy when you get leaner because your joints have less fluid and fat to protect them from the bigger forces.

Question: What if I have more than 50 lbs to lose?

Answer: Heck, Vince had 30 lbs to lose so you're programming
is going to be no different than his. The only difference is that you have an extra 8-10 weeks to travel. Let's go!

==>
Get 6-Pack Abs By Summertime!

Question: Is SSS for a complete beginner?

Answer: If Vince only cared about selling his DVD's I would say yes but if you have less than one year experience in his crazy fitness world, you'll probably find his approach a little too hardcore for now. Sit this one up unless you're absolutely intrigued to see how this goes down.

The weight training program is far too advanced and you would be better off learning the nutritional principles in No Nonsense Muscle Building, which focuses on a balanced approach to eating. You need to master a balanced
approach before implementing some of the more advanced things they did.

Question: I noticed you had an ENTIRE cupboard full of supplements.
Am I supposed to take all of those?!?!

Answer: When it comes to supplementation, that's a personal choice.

In the DVD's Vince explains WHY he takes what he takes and encourages you to just sit back and consider it an educational experience. Then, as you choose, start to add one new supplement a month and measure
the response. There are SO MANY supplements he's interested in trying himself but he likes to add one new thing at a time so he will get there when he gets there.

Question: What if I only have 10 lbs of fat to lose?

Answer: Again, the same principles apply and you'll learn how Vince adjusted his cardio intensity and frequency as he gets closer to the show to ensure he does not lose muscle the last few weeks.

You'll see EXACTLY how he changed his diet from phase to phase (He changed it three times throughout the 16 weeks) and you'll see some creative ways to switch around your macros and food sources
that assist with fat loss, WITHOUT dropping your calories.

==> Get 6-Pack Abs By Summertime!

Question: Is Ben Pakulski in any of the DVD's?

Answer: YES! The first 2 DVDs start off in Toronto when Vince is looking pretty bulky and they get 2 hours of coaching on the gym floor with Ben & Intentions! If you bought MI40 then you already have this footage but it's worth reviewing and owning it on hardcopy. I know that every time I watch this footage, I re learn something new and then BOOM, I have a better workout!

If you don't have this footage, heck, the first 2 hours is worth 3x the price of the DVDs because Ben bills $150 an hour! This is the kind of information that propelled him into the ranks of the top ten bodybuilders in the world this past month!

Question: How long are the DVDs on sale?

Answer: It depends... we have about 550 left in stock now and the $50 off sale ends Sunday night or whenever he sells out... Whatever comes first.

Trust that helps and THANK YOU for your interest in Vince's work. This is, by far, the best fat loss resource he's ever released. Grab it while you can!

Here is the $50 Off Discount link to get your DVDs shipped right now!
