When is the last time you said “I’m sorry”?

In December of 2012, I officially became a parent. Thinking back on those first years of my daughter’s life (before our other kids), it’s amazing the things you remember and forget (until something reminds you). Now that she’s a bit older, I see that one of the easy things to forget is what a handful …

It’s Time To Talk About “CSS5”

Have you ever wondered what happened after CSS3? It’s common knowledge that we never saw CSS4 come after it, yet we have a plethora of new features that have no similar way of defining when they were introduced. The W3C CSS-Next community group is actively searching for better approaches for how we describe the evolution of CSS over time and identify feature sets as effectively as we did with CSS3 way back in 2009 — and you can help.

Listen (and Watch) to Real-Time Wikipedia Edits

Listen to Wikipedia is a fun visual & audio project that gives life to real-time edits on Wikipedia.

For the visualization, green circles are anonymous edits, purple circles are bots, and white circles are edits by registered users. The size of the circles represent the size (in bytes) of the edit made.

Fro the audio portion, bells are additions and string plucks are subtractions. Pitch changes according to the size of the edit; the larger the edit, the deeper the note.

Listen to Wikipedia was written by Stephen LaPorte and Mahmoud Hashemi, and is open-source. [Github link] This project was built using D3 and HowlerJS. You can read more about their project in their blog post.

Timeline of Reddit

Vizion Online created a Timeline of Reddit to give a better understanding of the platform.

Most of us have come across Reddit at some point but what do we really know about this hugely popular social networking platform?

It was conceived in America in 2005 as a news forum where it became popular with prominently a younger well educated profile, sharing topics, links and images, allowing users and communities to comment on each post.

Reddit has grown to be a prevalent news forum where members vote on content giving them ratings. Although Reddit is considered a social media platform it is a unique network centred around communities and subgroups known as subreddits.

Throughout its history, there has been a number of high-profile stories including activist protest and political coverage.

We have created this infographic to give a better understanding of the platform using a timeline of key events throughout the history of Reddit.

Personally, I don’t like timelines designed this way. I prefer to see the events spaced out chronologically to match an actual timeline instead of each event equally spaced. If three events happen in the same year, I would list them in the same box. Only one box per year.

Recognizing traumatic brain injury as a chronic condition fosters better care over the survivor's lifetime

A commentary, published in the Journal of Neurotrauma, calls for traumatic brain injury to be recognized as a chronic condition as are diabetes, asthma, depression and heart failure. To provide comprehensive care for traumatic brain injury throughout individuals' lifespans, the authors propose that coordinated care models they and others have developed, tested and applied to various populations—including older adults, individuals living with depression and post-intensive care unit survivors—be adapted to improve communication and integration between brain injury specialists—including physical medicine and rehabilitation clinicians—and primary care physicians, fostering better long-term patient care for traumatic brain injury survivors and more support for both patients and their families.
