There will never be an Apple Ring, says rival with crossed fingers

The CEO of smart ring firm Oura has detailed the reasons there shouldn't be an Apple Ring, but sounds like he's hoping Apple is listening.

Render of a possible Apple Ring

Oh, just bring out a ring already. Apple Ring has been rumored for years, but in the last few months we have had absolutely certain claim that the project is dead. But that claim was followed only hours later by another one saying that Apple's smart ring would be out in 2026.

Now Tom Hale, CEO of the Oura Ring company, has told CNBC that it won't happen. For one thing, an Apple Ring would undercut the Apple Watch, and for another, making smart rings is so hard that Apple can't just walk in and do it.

Lena Dunham has been attached to the film, reports Variety, having previously starred and produced the HBO series "Girls," as well as "Camping" and "Generation." Her work on "Girls" led to eight Emmy Award nominations, as well as one Golden Globe.

iPad is still Apple's second biggest device despite long term decline

A new report claims that despite overall sales declining, Apple's iPad continues to sell steadily, and is second only to the iPhone.

iPad Air 2024

While the iPad dominates the US market, overall it's sales have been declining, and the latest models reportedly failed to reverse that trend. Nonetheness, the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) says in a new report, that iPad sales are chiefly stable.

Apple does not release detailed sales data, so information such as CIRP's has to come from surveys. CIRP also does not give actual sales figures though, so its use solely of percentages is only illustrative of the differences between the iPad models.

Apple Black Friday deals include a four-pack of Apple AirTags for a record low of $70

Black Friday deals are already popping up around the web, and that includes some Apple devices. You can pick up a four-pack of Apple AirTags for just $70, which brings the price per tag down to $17.50. That's a record-low price for the four pack and just about the cheapest we've seen on the price per unit.

Apple AirTags easily made our list of the best Bluetooth trackers, particularly for regular iPhone users. We love the vast finding network, which really helps when you misplace a tag. Just think of all of those AirTags, iPhones and other Apple devices out there helping to create this network.

Apple AirTags also offer the ability to tap into the ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless protocol. This creates a sort of game out of finding lost items, as long as the object is within 25 feet of the phone. The screen will display directional arrows and a distance meter so you can zero in on the lost item without having to ring the AirTag.

There are some caveats. These trackers only really work with iPhones, so Android users should buy something else. Also, the ringer only goes for seven seconds at a time, which isn’t always enough time to track something down. Finally, there’s no attachment point for connecting to a keychain or a related item. However, there are plenty of good AirTag accessories to solve that problem.

Check out all of the latest Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals here.

The Resident Evil 2 remake will shuffle its way to Apple devices in December

Now you’ll be able to play one of the greatest zombie survival games of all time on your iPhone or iPad. Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake is headed to the Apple and Mac App Store on December 10.

The game won’t be available on every Apple device. You’ll need any iPhone 16 model, an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPad or Mac with the M1 chip or later. You’ll also be able to try a small portion of the game before purchasing the full experience. The game comes with “universal purchase” and “cross-progression” for all your eligible devices, according to a Capcom statement.

The Resident Evil 2 remake will offer advanced controls for touchscreens and the Mac version. Both Leon and Claire will also have “a new Auto Fire feature” so you can unload your clip into whatever’s shuffling towards you.

This is just one of four Resident Evil games available for Apple devices and computers. Capcom and Apple have released versions of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 4 on the App Store and Resident Evil: Village on the App and Mac App Store.

Balancing Act: Nitrogen and Potassium Key to Boosting Apple Photosynthesis

Nitrogen and potassium are fundamental nutrients for plant growth, but imbalances frequently disrupt agricultural systems. In apple orchards, low potassium can severely limit carbon and nitrogen metabolism, impairing photosynthesis and yield. Potassium availability is often reduced by environmental factors such as soil leaching, while nitrogen is frequently over-applied due to its affordability and yield-enhancing effects. Given these challenges, optimizing nitrogen and potassium levels in apple trees warrants further research to counter the negative impact of nutrient imbalances on plant health and productivity.

Today the Transportation Security Administration (you know 'em as TSA) began allowing travelers to apply for its PreCheck program (or as TSA calls it, Pre✓[TM]).

According to TSA,

The new application process allows U.S. citizens to directly enroll in TSA Pre✓[TM], an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select screening lanes.
