New Auphonic Transcript Editor

We're excited to roll out an upgraded version of our Transcript Editor, focusing on enhancing your transcription workflow and making it more intuitive, especially for mobile users. This overhaul introduces several key improvements and features designed to streamline the transcription process.

Click here for a Live Demo

What's new?

Line by Line Editing

Your transcript is being rendered line by line. This allows for precise editing of every single timestamp. Depending on the speech recognition engine editing can be done on word or phrase level.
For optimal results, we suggest utilizing our Auphonic Whisper ASR engine.

A paragraph with 9 lines, every line represents a "subtitle line" (.vtt, .srt).

You can split or combine paragraphs and lines using the Enter and Backspace keys. Our new Playback Slider enables seamless scrolling through the text, while we highlight the currently selected word as you go. With the switchable Play on Click function you can start your playback from anywhere in the transcript.

Automatic Shownotes and Chapters

If you enable Automatic Shownotes and Chapters in the Production form, we include AI generated shownotes and chapters directly into the Transcript Editor. You can edit Chapter Times and Text directly within the Transcript Editor. Once you click Save (top right), any modifications made within the shownotes and chapters will also be saved back to the production.

Screenshot of Automatic Shownotes and Chapters withing the Transcript Editor.

You are also able to edit chapter times directly within the transcript editor. Please note that this only works within the Transcript section of the editor to ensure precise placement of chapters.

Local History: Undo and Redo

Our Local History feature offers convenient undo and redo functionality. This means you can effortlessly revert changes or redo them as needed, providing you with greater control and flexibility during the editing process.

Edit Speakers

Our revamped Transcript Editor automatically assigns speakers in Multitrack Productions. You can use the Track Identifier in our production form to assign speakers and easily edit, remove, or add new ones within the Transcript Editor. So it's clear who says what at any time!

Confidence Highlighting

Within the transcription areas of low confidence are highlighted with our Highlight Low Confidence feature. So you can check up on the AI and edit words it is not entirely confident about! It also shows you how confident the AI is about the specific area if you hover over it.

Offline Mode

This feature enables you to download and share the Transcript Editor for offline editing. This means you can share the *.html file with someone else for editing purposes. Simply use the Download Editor action to obtain an offline version of the Transcript Editor.

Export Transcript

You can export your transcript in all currently relevant formats (.srt, .vtt, .txt, .html, .pdf) and include them in your publishing process or video editing software.

Screenshot of Export Transcript.

Responsive Design

We want to make podcasting as easy as possible. The responsive design of our Transcript Editor allows for fast editing on mobile devices - so you can edit what you're saying anywhere, anytime!

Screenshot of Transcript Editor on a mobile device.

Why use it?

Apple Podcasts paved the way for all podcasts to feature transcripts, so users can read through what you are saying and look for specific parts of your talk they're interested in revisiting. That could be book recommendations, advertisements or one of your ideas you want to share with the world.

We're trying to make the transcription process as automated and easy for you as possible. Especially when using Multitrack Productions we strive to take all the work off of you and let the AI do its magic.

Additionally, we aim to simplify manual corrections wherever automated processes encounter challenges, ensuring that even these adjustments are as effortless as possible.

Try it now on auphonic.com!

Feedback

If you have feature requests or feedback for our new Transcript Editor, please let us know! You can also leave a comment in the feedback section on the status page of your specific production.
We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Why Embracing Discomfort Can Transform Your Art

In this episode, Austin Kleon dives into the concept of “creative discomfort” and how pushing outside our comfort zones drives authentic, impactful art. Austin, a bestselling author known for Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work, and Keep Going, shares his unique take on creativity as a process of problem-solving, subtraction, and friction. Together, we explore how the right amount of tension—whether in tools, routines, or mindsets—can spark the kind of genuine work that truly resonates. We discuss the unexpected benefits of friction, whether it’s the rough feel of a pencil on paper, a challenging creative prompt, or even an intentional lack of convenience in day-to-day routines. Austin shares his journey back to writing books after a long hiatus and the unique way he keeps his process challenging by setting up creative “problems” for himself. From learning to ride a bike in his forties to adopting analog tools to enhance creative tension, Austin’s approach is a refreshing reminder that the best work often comes not from ease but from intentional, creative struggle. Some highlights we explore: Comfort Work vs. Risk Work: Austin defines “comfort work” as creative tasks that feel safe and familiar, contrasted with “risk work” that pushes growth—like...

Your Website Transition Checklist

When onboarding a new partner to redesign your website, take over maintenance, or rescue a project going sideways, you'll need to carefully transition access to a variety of critical systems and tools. And if you're navigating a contentious relationship or onboarding into a new organization without documentation, you might not know where to start.

Does that sound scary? It doesn't have to be.

Here's a comprehensive checklist to ensure that you retain full control of your website and avoid any potential hiccups during a transition.

  1. Codebase access. Ensure you have ownership or administrative access to the existing codebase or code repository. Popular platforms like Bitbucket and GitHub are often used for this purpose.
  2. Content Management System access. Ensure you have the highest level of access (super admin) for your Content Management System (CMS).
  3. Hosting information and access. Gather all hosting information and ensure you have access to the account that owns the workspace. This is crucial to prevent unauthorized updates or changes to your site. For hosted platforms, you’ll need Owner access, not just Administrator access.
  4. Additional services information and access. This might include your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy), DNS settings, email services, your content delivery network (CDN), if applicable. This could also include any third-party services that are integrated with your website. Common examples might include: Algolia, Hubspot, Stripe, etc.
  5. Analytics and Data. Make sure you have access to all analytics tools used to monitor your website traffic and user behavior. This might include both old Google Universal Analytics data and current GA4 data, Google Tag Manager, or any other analytics services used on your website (e.g., Mixpanel, Hotjar, Adobe Analytics, etc.).
  6. Backups. Secure a full backup of your site, including the file system. Plugins like UpdraftPlus for WordPress can be very helpful for this process. Also, ensure you have backups of shared files, such as those in Google Drive, Box, or Dropbox.
  7. Design Assets. Retain copies of raw design assets (e.g., Figma files). We always transfer ownership of Figma files to our client teams to ensure they have the ability to extend the design system in the future.
  8. Licenses. Make sure you own any required licenses, such as font/photo licenses, CMS licenses, API keys, or premium plugins. We insist that our client teams purchase any required licenses/subscriptions using their corporate information so we’re never blocking access to those critical resources.

Transitioning website partners can be a smooth process with foresight and preparation. While ideally there would never be gaps in access to these critical resources and services, by following this checklist, you can ensure that you’re not missing anything when offboarding old partners or getting your bearings with a new team or organization.

Do you need help figuring out how this checklist might apply to your situation? Be in touch, and we’d be happy to discuss your current status and suggest next steps for your website transition.

New Jersey Legislature Tells Employers: No Transparency? No Doing Business Here!

New Jersey is the latest state to advance pay transparency requirements.  On September 26, 2024, the New Jersey state legislature passed Senate Bill 2310, which if signed and enacted by Governor Murphy (as is expected), would mandate that certain New Jersey employers disclose wage or salary ranges and general benefits information in each job posting/advertisement. The bill would also require that employers take “reasonable” steps to make opportunities for promotions known to current employees.
