Metamodels for Evaluating, Calibrating and Applying Agent-Based Models: A Review

Bruno Pietzsch, Sebastian Fiedler, Kai G. Mertens, Markus Richter, Cédric Scherer, Kirana Widyastuti, Marie-Christin Wimmler, Liubov Zakharova and Uta Berger: The recent advancement of agent-based modeling is characterized by higher demands on the parameterization, evaluation and documentation of these computationally expensive models. Accordingly, there is also a growing request for "easy to go" applications just mimicking the input-output behavior of such models. Metamodels are being increasingly used for these tasks. In this paper, we provide an overview of common metamodel types and the purposes of their usage in an agent-based modeling context. To guide modelers in the selection and application of metamodels for their own needs, we further assessed their implementation effort and performance. We performed a literature research in January 2019 using four different databases. Five different terms paraphrasing metamodels (approximation, emulator, meta-model, metamodel and surrogate) were used to capture the whole range of relevant literature in all disciplines. All metamodel applications found were then categorized into specific metamodel types and rated by different junior and senior researches from varying disciplines (including forest sciences, landscape ecology, or economics) regarding the implementation effort and performance. Specifically, we captured the metamodel performance according to (i) the consideration of uncertainties, (ii) the suitability assessment provided by the authors for the particular purpose, and (iii) the number of valuation criteria provided for suitability assessment. We selected 40 distinct metamodel applications from studies published in peer-reviewed journals from 2005 to 2019. These were used for the sensitivity analysis, calibration and upscaling of agent-based models, as well to mimic their prediction for different scenarios. This review provides information about the most applicable metamodel types for each purpose and forms a first guidance for the implementation and validation of metamodels for agent-based models.

Libra Horoscope for May 9, 2020

Overeating and high calorie diet needs to be avoided. If you are a student and want to study abroad, then financial crisis at home can upset you today. Festive atmosphere at home would ease your tension. Make sure you also participate in this and not remain like a silent spectator. Your beloved today would like to say his/her mind rather than listening to you. This can make you upset. The day is good. Hence, along with others, you will be able to make some quality time for yourself. You may take your partner for granted in certain case, which will lead to a fight. Avoid stepping out of your boundaries while joking with friends, as it can ruin your friendship.

Design library not defined while reading module with ncsim

Hi supporters,

I got the following error while I run simulation with gate netlist using Cadence Incisive (v15.20):

----

ncsim(64): 15.20-s076: (c) Copyright 1995-2019 Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
ncsim: *E,DLOALB: Design library 'tcbnxxx' not defined while reading module tcbnxxx.MAOxxx:bv (VST).
ncsim: *F,NOSIMU: Errors initializing simulation 'alu_tb'

----

xxx: standard library name.

My netlist design uses a cell "MAOxxx". I already included the library behavior model to compile using ncverilog, there is no error while compiling. But when I run with ncsim to execute the test, I got above error.

I tried to run with other vendors such as VCS or MTI, they worked.

Please help to understand the error.

Thanks.

How to refer the library compiled by INCISIVE 13.20 in Xcelium 19.30

Hi,

I am facing this elaboration error when using Xcelium:

Command>

    xmverilog -v200x +access+r +xm64bit -f vlist -reflib plib -timescale 1ns/1ps

Log>

    xmelab: *E,CUVMUR (<name>.v,538|18): instance 'LUTP0.C GLAT3' of design unit 'tlatntscad12' is unresolved in 'worklib.LUTP0:v'.

I guess the plib was not referred to as the simulation configuration because the tlatntscad12 is included in plib.

The plib is compiled by INCISIVE 13.20 and I am using the Xcelium 19.30.

Please tell me the correct command on how to refer to the library directory compiled by different versions.

Thank you,

VHDL-AMS std and ieee libraries not found/empty

I'm trying to set up a VHDL-AMS simulation, so I made a new cell, selected the vhdlamstext type, and copied some example from the web. But when I hit the save and compile button, I first got the following NOLSTD error:

https://www.edaboard.com/showthread.php?27832-Simulating-a-VHDL-design-in-ldv5-1

So I added said file to my cds.lib and tried again. But now I'm getting this:

ncvhdl_p: *F,DLUNNE: Can't find STANDARD at /cadappl/ictools/cadence_ic/6.1.7.721/tools/inca/files/STD.

If I go over to the Library Browser, it indeed shows that the library is completely empty. Properties show it has the following files attached.

In the file system I've also found a STD.src folder. Is there a way to recompile the library properly? Supposedly this folder includes precompiled versions, but looks like not really.

How Libraries Use Social Media

https://blog.techsoup.org/posts/how-libraries-use-social-media

Eighty-one percent of Americans have social media accounts, and that number is expected to grow each year. Nearly all brands have a social presence, and libraries are no different. Libraries are using social platforms now more than ever before.

The New York Public Library has 2.2 million followers on Twitter, more followers than the celebrity Kathy Griffin. Social media is playing a significant role in helping libraries stay relevant in our ever-growing digital society.

TechSoup recently teamed up with WebJunction to find out the details on how libraries are using social media. We wanted to know how often libraries are using platforms and what some of their biggest challenges are. We surveyed 311 libraries throughout the country and found out some interesting things.

In our survey, we found that 55 percent of respondents serve fewer than 25,000 patrons, so nearly half of the respondents were smaller libraries, probably mostly in rural areas. We found that libraries are using social, and they are eager to grow their channels.

More than half (55.7 percent) of libraries spend less than 5 hours per week on social media, and 28 percent spend only 6 to 10 hours a week.

Libraries use Facebook more than any other social platform. Twitter is the next most popular platform, and then Instagram.

Forty-four percent of libraries post daily on Facebook, and 25 percent also post daily on Twitter.

Libraries are using social media to share events and pictures, educate people about services, highlight their collections, and support other libraries.

Growing followers and finding staff support are some of libraries' biggest social media challenges.
