Thors met with officials from the United States and representatives of international organizations, including the United Nations Secretariat, Funds, Programmes and Agencies, as well as members of the academia, think tanks and human rights organizations.

During her visit, Thors welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of the Resolution 2282 (2016) on the Review of United Nations Peacebuilding Architecture as renewed meaningful support to conflict prevention worldwide. “I am pleased with the strengthened partnerships with the wider international community achieved during my trip, in particular in thematic areas such as access to justice and education, both highly relevant to national minorities and conflict prevention,” Thors concluded.

OSCE Centre in Bishkek supports workshop on crime prevention through partnerships between police, civil organizations and the public

Fifty-two representatives of Local Crime Prevention Centres (LCPCs) in Kyrgyztsan, including members of the courts of Aksakals (local elders), women and youth councils completed a two-day workshop supported by the OSCE Centre in Bishkek  on 7July 2016 in Osh, with the aim of enhancing interactions between the police, civil organizations and the public.

Participants improved their practical skills on analyzing security situations and applying problem-solving methods, and in strengthening effective communication with the police and other stakeholders. LCPC members learned about the development and implementation of crime prevention projects and programmes. Participants also revised the normative-legal documents that regulate LCPCs and crime prevention activities.

“Preserving public order and preventing crime is the shared responsibility of the police, local self-government bodies, and local communities,” said Pavel Khalashnyuk, acting Head of Police Affairs at the OSCE Centre. “This training course seeks to strengthen this collective, consultative approach and the LCPCs’ capacity to foster community engagement in crime prevention and to strengthen the effectiveness of the partnership with police in addressing community security concerns.”

The workshop was conducted at the Community Policing Training Centre by a local expert and trainers from the Main Directorate for Public Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and of the Ministry’s Academy.

Partnerships for peace and development in fragile states: Identifying missing links

Literature on partnerships has grown rapidly in the past decade across different disciplines. However, despite conceptual attention to the value of strategic multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote peace and reconciliation, challenges posed by (post-)conflict, fragile contexts have barely been considered in empirical studies. In this article we contribute by bringing together debates from different partnership literatures and providing an overview of existing, relatively limited research insights on partnerships for peace in fragile states. We present a typology of different levels (local, national, international) at which collaboration takes place and different types of partnerships (philanthropic, transactional, engagement, transformative). This is exemplified with specific attention to Africa, where most fragile states are found, and to partnerships with transformative potential. The analysis suggests that the lowest-level (local) partnerships tend to exclude the national government, while the most recent international, multilateral-driven collaboration has not included business; national cases are most transformative but incidental and not yet leveraged internationally. Despite the interconnected nature of conflict and fragility issues, linkages between partnerships and partners at different levels are largely missing, offering potential for further development by a broad spectrum of scholars and thought leaders. Insights from 'extreme' unconventional contexts thus have relevance for management research more generally.

Agency Partnerships: A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

For agencies like ours, success doesn’t come from being an expert at everything—a big part of it is complementing our expertise and working hand-in-hand with like-minded partners who share our values and standards.

These partnerships haven't just boosted what we can do, they've created opportunities for us to engage with new clients. Here's how these collaborations have made us—and our partners—stronger:

  1. Incremental Value: We have a deep respect for expertise. We believe If you try to be an expert at everything, it’s difficult to be exceptional at anything. By teaming up with partners who bring different skills and services to the table, we get access to all sorts of proficiencies we wouldn't have on our own, adding value to prospective and existing clients. Instead of “That’s not our area of expertise”, now it’s “Yes, we can help with that.” These alliances empower us to deliver a higher level of service and comprehensive results for our clients.
  2. Mutual Scalability: Sometimes, there’s a ton of demand for what we do, and it's hard to keep up. Strategic partnerships mean we can call in reinforcements when we need them. By tapping into our partners' talent pools, we can handle even the most time-sensitive client demands without sacrificing quality or speed. And it’s mutual. When our team has time available, we are the reinforcements instead.
  3. More Leads, More Growth: In a crowded market, having a steady stream of clients is crucial. Naturally, every knock on our door can’t be a great fit. Through our partnerships, we've built a network of agencies that share our values, quality standards, and culture. By working closely together and passing leads back and forth, we've created a symbiotic ecosystem where projects flow smoothly, keeping all of us busy and growing.
  4. Reaching New Frontiers: Exploring new markets or industries can be risky, especially if you don't know the terrain. That's where partnerships come in handy. With an experienced partner on your team, it cracks open a door to reach new customers that may have otherwise been too difficult to open on your own. By teaming up with others who know the ropes in different areas (e.g. machine learning, hardware prototyping, reputation management, etc.), we can expand our reach, and establish ourselves in new segments with confidence.
  5. Getting Creative Together: Innovation flourishes when different minds come together under a set of constraints. By teaming up with partners who bring fresh ideas to the table, whether through smaller things like adding feedback to a partner’s open-source library, or bigger things like discussing AI’s impact on the web, we create a space where new approaches can flourish. (And, well, it’s our namesake after all).
  6. Professional Development: Values like “learn & grow” are part of a rewarding career at Viget. The symbiotic ecosystem created in our partner network provides opportunities for knowledge sharing. Partners help us solidify new skills including teaching others. Our own expertise shared with our peers gets reciprocated—each agency broadening the other’s horizons and leveling up one another’s teams.

In the end, strategic partnerships are an important ingredient in our recipe for success. They give us access to all sorts of perks we wouldn't have on our own, and they help us build a community of successful agencies and contractors who all value the power of teamwork.

Smart lock company LockState closes $5.8M Series A to fast track sales & partnerships

Smart Lock Company LockState raised $5.8M Series A in new investment to fund its aggressive sales and marketing and partner development plan. The company previously raised $740K seed round and $1M in a round led by angel investors. The lead investor in latest round was Iron Gate Capital. Other investors include Kozo Keikaku Engineering Inc, Nelnet and Service Provider Capital.

Access Control Dashboard and WiFi Smart Locks

The company’s Wi-Fi-enabled RemoteLock is used by 1000s of Airbnb and other vacation rental hosts. It helps hosts remotely provide access to guests. Locking/unlocking codes can be generated via a host’s computer or smartphone.

RemoteLock’s prices start at $299 which is its algorithmic ResortLock. The most pricey lock by LockState is its ‘RemoteLock 7i Black WiFi Commercial Smart Lock’ which costs $479.

Another core product of LockState is its cloud-based remote access platform for internet-enabled locks. It implies users can remotely manage their (internet-enabled) locks via LockState’s cloud platform.

Unlike smartphones and watches, customers don’t look forward to upgrading their smart locks or buying one when new models are launched. Thus, smart lock companies offset this disadvantage by partnering with property management and short-term rental companies to get new customers.

LockState has partnered with vacation rental brands like Airbnb, HomeAway, and other listing partners to automate guest access.

“We are expanding our footprint and moving into a new warehouse office that is more than twice the size of our current office. We’re also staffing up our sales and marketing teams. We’ve accomplished a lot without investing heavily in marketing so we’ll support that area to keep our momentum going. We intend to expand into new business-to-business and enterprise verticals where we’re seeing the market grow. We are also dedicating budget toward development.” Nolan Mondrow, CEO of LockState in a statement released to news site Venture Beat

Igloohome a Singapore-based smart lock company also raised an investment of $4M in April this year.
