Britannia Industries reported a 10% drop in profit for the quarter ended September as surging housing costs and low income growth in urban areas led to a slowdown in demand for fast-moving consumer goods. While rural demand has been stable, urban demand has seen a significant downturn, mirroring global trends of consumer confidence returning but wages lagging behind inflation.

Despite severe air pollution in Indian cities, particularly in Delhi-NCR, the market for air purifiers and anti-pollution personal care products remains small. Consumers perceive limited tangible benefits and sales spike only during peak pollution periods. While some growth occurs after Diwali, the overall market remains stagnant, with some companies exiting or scaling back operations.

Titan Company's consolidated profit after tax declined by 23.1 per cent in the second quarter of this fiscal. However, the company's consolidated income increased by 26 per cent during the same period. Its international jewellery business experienced a significant income growth of 62 per cent. Caratlane, a subsidiary of Titan, also reported a 28 per cent increase in total income.

Titan Company experienced a 15% profit decline in Q2. The company attributes this to losses from a customs duty drop on gold. Despite this, Titan saw strong sales growth in its jewellery and watches segments. The company remains optimistic about the future, particularly the upcoming festive season. I've found an abstract from a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that found a greater incidence of pustular follicular dermatitis outbreaks among mud-wrestling college students (no joke) at the University of Washington in Seattle—but that doesn't speak to the question of vaginal, anal or urethral irritation stemming from prolonged mud exposure.

(And yes, this is a serious question, I promise—the topic came up during a conversation I was party to a while back about, well, vaginal irritation/infections. Fun stuff, huh?)
