blog Move a WordPress blog to a new host (online) By jobs.metafilter.com Published On :: Wed, 22 Apr 2020 11:44:29 -0800 I have a HostGator-hosted WordPress blog that is on an increasingly outdated version of PHP and WP. I would like to transfer it to a new host, ideally one that is cheaper and that lets me stop worrying about details like the PHP version. Setting up HTTPS would be good, too. The blog itself is a pretty standard WP installation without much in the way of plugins and with no custom code or complex theming, so hopefully the transfer will be simple. I'm open to an hourly rate or a flat fee. Full Article blog https php transfer webhost webhosting webpage website wordpress

blog From the Naxos Blog: Playing the fool (Apr 03, 2020) By www.naxos.com Published On :: Fri, 03 Apr 2020 00:00:00 GMT April Fool’s Day occurs each year on 1 April and although the day has been marked for many centuries in different cultures, its exact origin is difficult to pin down. One speculation links it to the move by France in 1582 to move from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, effectively moving the start of the year to 1 January from the last week in March through to 1 April. People who were slow off the mark as regards this development, and continued to mark the transit ...more Full Article

Naxos and its affiliated labels have released numerous recordings of the composer’s works which, to be honest, I find much more engaging than I did the film. In fact, we chose a clip from his Cello Concerto Op. 72 as the intro and outr ...more Full Article

It has developed into a web of avenues that link art music with music lovers. The Naxos label is now just one of the constituents of the Naxos Music Group; a host of other independent labels have joined the group over the years, benefitting from the Naxos global infrastructure, but each retaining its i ...more Full Article
blog From the Naxos Blog: Reicha’s rich reach (Feb 21, 2020) By www.naxos.com Published On :: Fri, 21 Feb 2020 00:00:00 GMT You have to pity those composers who got air-brushed out of the limelight during their time for no other reason than they were contemporaries of the acknowledged masters, and so had to live under the long shadows of composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and so on. Or, at least, it seems to us that they were unduly neglected. It’s nearer the truth to say that societies of their day did afford them recognition, but the passing of time has not been so acco ...more Full Article
blog From the Naxos Blog: I can zing a rainbow (Jan 24, 2020) By www.naxos.com Published On :: Fri, 24 Jan 2020 00:00:00 GMT I never tire of listening to the voice of Peggy Lee (1920-2002), the American jazz and popular music singer who was also a songwriter, composer and actress. And with an active career that spanned some six decades, it seems I’m not the only one in her fan club. Her unique vocal timbre was apposite to one of her hits, Sing a Rainbow. I wondered if the Naxos catalogue could similarly zing a rainbow and turn up an interesting collage of pieces reflecting the individual c ...more Full Article

By way of a slightly contorted response to the occasion, I thought we might take a look at William Shakespeare’s influence on composers, not through the contemporary contributions they made to performances of his plays (he lived from 1564 to 1616), but by taking stock of how The Bard has inspired and permeated the output of generations of composers since his day. ...more Full Article

blog Why I Need to Stop Blogging By www.christianitytoday.com Published On :: The possibilities and limitations of logging life on the Internet. “Blog” is a word that was coined nearly two decades ago as a shortened version of “web log.” As the word suggests, blogs originated as online spaces in which individuals or groups log their experiences in something approaching real time, much as a sailor would record the daily weather conditions onboard hundreds of years ago. “Blog” can be used as a noun or a verb, but in either case this compact word almost describes itself. Not poetic or thought-provoking or nuanced. Rather— short, efficient, straightforward. So the word “blog” itself pretty much sums up the promise and perils of the genre. On the one hand, blogging offers a wealth of opportunity, especially for writers like me who are trying to figure out topics of interest to readers, or work through new ideas, or build an audience of people interested in those topics and ideas. Over the past few years, I have been blogging about faith, family, and disability here at Thin Places (and elsewhere), and I’m grateful for what that opportunity has afforded me. I’ve been able to provide a space for conversation by curating guest posts around topics like racial reconciliation or rest or contraception. I’ve been able to offer my own thoughts about a whole host of topics, from advances in prenatal testing to reflections on quiet times and church attendance, from sexuality to the Oscars. I’ve been able to highlight some of the good work happening within the church, especially when it comes to disability, and I’ve been able to participate in some online conversations about events within the news. Blogging offers a terrific forum for pushing ideas out into the world for immediate consumption ...Continue reading... Full Article

blog This Retro Rack Blog is Fading By retrorack.blogspot.com Published On :: Thu, 02 Jan 2020 02:47:00 +0000 In case you hadn't noticed recently, Fashionable Reader, I've been lax about posting to this blog. Maintaining two blogs has gotten a bit overwhelming for me. Something has got to give. Much as I love fashion, it isn't actually my primary working world. Writing is, so that has to take most of my focus. What's Going On?I have been migrating and posting my historical fashion stuff, which ties to my books, over on my main blog, at my gailcarriger.com website. There is a Victorian fashion tag there if you want to see all my posts on the subject. And I have been posting pictures of myself in my outfits there as part of the footers there. In other words, I'm fading this one away. However! I promise there are ways to stay in touch with me and my fashion. InstagramOf course I am also on Instagram. I would truly LOVE it if you follow me there. Apparently there are secret things you can unlock and have access to if you get over 10k followers and I am ... almost ... there. PinterestAlternatively I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to my Retro Style & Looks and their inspiration, you can always follow that board. Or I have one that is all my Steampunk outfits. FacebookI always post pictures of my event outfits to Retro Rack's Facebook group.I know that's not ALL the platforms, but again, writing and lack of time mean I have to be selective about where I spend my online chips. Anyway! Thank you for sticking with me for almost 10 years, and I hope you will not lose touch.I will keep this blog's old posts, particularly the useful ones like eShakti shopping tips and how to prepare for breast reduction surgery, and links alive as long as Blogger will let me.I might move some of my popular ones of these plus steampunk DIYs over to my author blog eventually. I won't be deleting this blog, I will just stop posting to it. Stay in touch, please.Yours,Miss Gail You can visit the following shopping lists: Travel Dork, My Steampunk, My Wardrobe.Product links on this blog are usually to Amazon using my associate code. At no additional cost to you this means I gets a slight kick back if you make a purchase. Thank you!
