world Key Design Characteristics for Developing Usable E-Commerce Websites in the Arab World By Published On :: 2016-09-27 This research aims to suggest key design characteristics that are necessary for developing usable e-commerce websites in the Arab world. A comprehensive usability evaluation of four leading Arab e-commerce websites was conducted using the heuristic evaluation method. The results identified major and minor usability problems and major and minor good design characteristics on the selected websites. Based on the results, 51 key design characteristics were suggested. The recommended key design characteristics comprised two levels according to their priority: level one which includes mandatory key design characteristics and level two which includes supplementary design characteristics. The key design characteristics in each level were categorized under specific pages and areas that can be found on any e-commerce website. Such categorizations could direct website evaluators and designers to important pages and areas that should be considered to improve the overall usability of e-commerce websites. The results of this research are particularly important to developing countries which are still facing challenges that may affect the design and accessibility of usable and useful websites. These relate to low speed of accessing the Internet and a lack of website designers who have experience in customers’ needs and websites’ usable design characteristics. Full Article
world The Three Worlds of Task Complexity By Published On :: 2024-09-02 Aim/Purpose: To provide a systematic approach to defining task complexity using a three worlds model previously introduced in informing science research. Background: The task complexity construct presents researchers with a quandary. While it appears useful on the surface, repeated attempts to define it rigorously have failed to gain traction in the broader research community. The level of inconsistency between definitions is shown to have changed little in the past 20 years. Methodology: Using a common framework that treats task complexity as a latent construct residing between sources and outcomes, moderated by both task familiarity and task discretion, separate models for each of the three worlds are developed. Contribution: Our paper proposes a potential path forward by showing how many issues in past task complexity research can be reconciled by framing the construct according to the three worlds model: the world we experience, the world of human artifacts, and the “real world.” Findings: The framework defines experienced complexity as occurring in the mind of the task performer while performing a single task instance, intrinsic complexity as a function of the internal characteristics of the problem space used to perform a bounded set of task instances, and extrinsic complexity as the ruggedness of the fitness landscape in which the task is performed. Recommendation for Researchers: It offers a path to convergence for definitions of task complexity. Future Research: The three worlds of task complexity can potentially be applied to many practical problems. Full Article

world Jonas Bader - Around the world trip - Interview By www.kunstform.org Published On :: 2015-11-17 09:13:42 Jonas Bader - Around the world trip - Interview Jonas Bader decided last year to do a trip with his bike around the world and visited countries like Mexiko, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Bali, Tahiti, Portugal, New Caledonia and Spain. Now he is back in Berlin and brought us some fotos and words which we would like to share! Yo Jonas, you just came back from a huge around the world trip. How did the idea of this trip came up to you? I was looking forward to do a longer trip like that for quiet a bit, because i didn’t had to much time to travel while i took my studies for my bachelor exams in Stuttgart. For me traveling is an essential part that comes along with bmx. When i was young i already loved all those small trips to the neighboor villages and now im expanding haha. By the way how long have you been traveling in total and wich countries have you been too? In total its been a full year. My Goal was to see all 3 Mekkas of BMX. BARCELONA, CALI and Australia. And because i am going that far i made some stops in between: Portugal, Mexico, Tahiti, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Bali and Singapore. How did you plan our travel destinations? Like i said i had the master plan of going to BCN, CALI and OZ. I had the rough plan of a few other destinations, but most of them occurred spontaneous. I visited my brother in Portugal for example, who was on a Globetrotter trip with 2 Defhleffs together with Kilian and the two aussies Raph and Jerry. BEST TIME ! What role has played BMX for your journey and what expierences you could get from it? BMX was a really important while my travels. I recon after a few months of traveling i would have been to bored without. At some point one is just done with all the tourist attractions. I just got sick of the smallest, biggest, narrowest, most blue, highest whats or ever of the world. Thats when i hopped on my BMX and had the best time of my trip and saw the world with a whole other perspective. Unfortunately those were the most honest and interesting experiences of the cities/countries, just cruising my bike and explore the hood. You have send us also some pics from New Caledonia! How is the BMX szene there? Sadly i didn’t ride my bike to much over there. I saw a few edits and so on of people from there. But during my stay i didn’t get to know someone. Most of the time i was hanging out with a skater / photographer that i met randomly. But the nature in New Caledonia is so astonishing that i was mostly surfing, snorkeling or diving, was a bit like holiday from my holidays haha. Which spots, countries or city you could advise us? I can advice you every single one! I guess its not about wich country you go to, its just about to break habits and go out there and do something different than on a normal day. Get your self in a new adventure and try something new. In the end its up to you if you have a good time, its possible in every country! What are you doin now in Germany? I just started to study again and take my master exams in architecture. Would you like to say something else or do you want to greet someone? First the standard THANK YOU to my parents and friends and all those who made my trip to what it was in any way! AWESOME. And of course a big thanks to you guys for keeping my bike always fresh as hell. Its not obligatory to get a new bike shipped to Australia! RESPECT. And one more thing … Wendel hast a small ….. hahahahaha. Thanks Jonas for your photos and your words Fotos! Peace out Daniel ! Full Article

world Group on Earth Observations Launches Worldwide Competition ‘Aim is to Turn Data into Decisions’ By www.eubon.eu Published On :: Thu, 15 May 2014 14:11:00 +0300 The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) just launched the GEO Appathon 2014, a global competition to develop mobile "apps" to help people make smarter decisions about the environment. (www.geoappathon.org) Competitors from more than 15 countries – and growing – are competing for $20,000 in prizes being offered by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). GEO is a voluntary partnership of governments and organizations that envisions "a future wherein decisions and actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated, comprehensive and sustained Earth observations and information." GEO membership includes 89 nations and the European Commission, and 77 Participating Organizations comprised of international bodies with a mandate in Earth observations. GEO Appathon 2014 is designed to create new, exciting and easy-to-use Apps using Earth observation data available through GEO’s Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). GEOSS is a unique, web-based clearinghouse that provides access to more than 65 million data records from archives spread across the globe. (www.geoportal.org) "GEO Appathon 2014 is one of the critical next steps in the evolution of GEOSS to create mechanisms to readily convert data into information and tools for decision makers across society," stated Barbara J. Ryan, Secretariat Director of GEO. "The Appathon is an important leap forward in unleashing the power of Earth observations." Apps will focus on addressing environmental and societal challenges facing decision leaders and individual citizens in developing countries across nine essential areas: agriculture, biodiversity, climate, disasters, ecosystems, energy, health, water and weather. "Access to better information, in the hands of people who can use it every day, is a major step forward. This appathon goes beyond the open data movement. The aim is to turn data into decisions," said Carrie Stokes, Director of USAID’s GeoCenter. In addition to USAID, partners in the GEO Appathon include Esri, European Space Agency, Geospatial Media, GISCloud, Microsoft, National Research Council of Italy, and Open Geospatial Consortium. Participation in the GEO Appathon is open to any non-commercial entity, individual or team from any background in any country. Apps can be created for any of the main operating systems, as well as open source platforms, and can be designed for any type of portable device. All Apps will be judged and the top winners will receive a cash prize and a year-long GEO network endorsement and publicity for the App. Registration for the GEOAppathon remains open through July 31st. Qualifying Apps must be received by August 31, 2 014. Full Article News
world WWF Report: 52 Percent of the World’s Biodiversity Is Gone By www.eubon.eu Published On :: Wed, 08 Oct 2014 11:04:00 +0300 When the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released its Living Planet Report 2014 on September 30, it wasn’t the usual doom-and-gloom environmental news story that is forgotten the next day. The report — the result of a science-based study using 10,380 populations from 3,038 species of amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles from around the globe — is garnering worldwide attention for its sit-up-and-take-notice findings: between 1970 and 2010, the planet has lost 52 percent of its biodiversity. In the same forty-year period, the human population has nearly doubled. Those figures take a while to sink in, especially since the previous WWF report that analyzed animal populations, published in 2012, showed a decline of only 28 percent over a similar time frame. Specifically, the WWF biennial report found that we have lost 76 percent of freshwater wildlife, 39 percent of terrestrial wildlife, and 39 percent of marine wildlife since 1970. While some animal species numbers are increasing and some are stable, the declining populations are decreasing sorapidly that the overall trend is down. Latin American biodiversity took the biggest plunge, diminishing by 83 percent. Statistics boil down to the fact that every year, we use 1.5 planet’s worth of natural resources. If we all lived the lifestyle of a typical United States resident, we would need 3.9 planets per year. If we all had the footprint of the average citizen of Qatar, we would need 4.8 planets. The term "overshoot day" is defined as the date when we have used up our annual supply of renewable resources and start spending down the Earth’s natural capital. In 2014, that day was August 20. The cause for this staggering demise in biodiversity is human activities. We have degraded natural habitats by clearing forests, plowing grasslands, and polluting waters; and have overhunted the land and overfished the oceans. A single culprit, climate change, is now responsible for 7.1 percent of the current declines in animal populations, but its toll is on the rise. While the WWF Living Planet Report 2014 is distressing, it notes some conservation success stories.Mountain gorillas in Africa are rebounding in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda due, in part, to ecotourism. And after the Nepalese government cracked down on poaching in five protected areas, the nation’s tiger population started to increase. The declining trend in worldwide biodiversity can be mitigated and reversed. To achieve sustainability again, each country’s per capita ecological footprint must be less than the per capita biocapacity available, while still maintaining a decent standard of living for its people. world New UN- report released on mobilizing data revolution for a sustainable development: "A world that counts" By www.eubon.eu Published On :: Fri, 21 Nov 2014 17:44:00 +0200 A new report "A world that counts - Mobilising the Data Revolution for Sustainable Development" was recently published. The document points out the need for globally available and freely accessible data to monitor progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to hold governments accountable and foster sustainable development. This issue needs to be solved in a timely manner, as the gaps between developed and developing countries, between information-rich and information-poor people are increasing. Furthermore, better integrated, timely and validated information can lead to better decision-making and real-time feedback to the citizens. However, still some challenges remain, and the report points out recommendations to overcome existing limitations (countries have poor data, data arrives too late, many issues are barely covered), e.g. through a global "Network of Data Innovation Networks" that connects both organizations and experts. The report was written by UN-IAEG, which is the United Nations Secretary-General’s Independent Expert Advisory Group on a Data Revolution for Sustainable Development and is available online here: http://www.undatarevolution.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/A-World-That-Counts.pdf Full Article News
