Holy Prophet Micah (8th c. BC)

Read his prophecies (which include the prophecy that Christ would be born in Bethlehem, Micah 5:2) in the Old Testament book that bears his name. He was a contemporary of the prophets Isaiah, Amos and Hosea, and is ranked sixth among the "minor" prophets. It was he who prophesied that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem. (This is a different Micah from the one mentioned in 1 Chronicles 22:8, who lived earlier). Micah was buried in his home village of Morasth in the land of Judah; his holy relics were found along with those of the prophet Habbakuk during the reign of St Theodosius the Great — their location was given by a revelation to Zebennus, Bishop of Eleutheropolis.

St. Matthew’s Old Testament: Micah 5:2 and Hosea 11:1

We continue our series examining St. Matthew’s citations of the Old Testament. Today we look at his citation of Micah 5:2. “In the Masoretic Hebrew it reads, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you will come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.” The LXX reads similarly: “And you, Bethlehem, house of Ephrathah, you are very small to be in the thousands of Judah, from which for me will come out to be for a ruler of Israel, and his goings out are from the beginning, from the days of eternity.” It is all the more surprising therefore that St. Matthew’s version reads a little differently from either the Hebrew or the Greek. It reads, “And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you will come a ruler who will govern my people Israel.”

Polymeric poly[[decaaquabis(μ6-1,8-disulfonato-9H-carbazole-3,6-dicarboxylato)di-μ3-hydroxy-pentazinc] decahydrate]

The asymmetric unit of the title MOF, [Zn5(C14H5NO10S2)2(OH)2(H2O)10]n comprises three ZnII atoms, one of which is located on a centre of inversion, a tetra-negative carboxylate ligand, one μ3-hydroxide and five water molecules, each of which is coordinated. The ZnII atom, lying on a centre of inversion, is coordinated by trans sulfoxide-O atoms and four water molecules in an octahedral geometry. Another ZnII atom is coordinated by two carboxylate-O atoms, one hydroxy-O, one sulfoxide-O and a water-O atom to define a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal geometry; a close Zn⋯O(carboxylate) interaction derived from an asymmetrically coordinating ligand (Zn—O = 1.95 and 3.07 Å) suggests a 5 + 1 coordination geometry. The third ZnII atom is coordinated in an octahedral fashion by two hydroxy-O atoms, one carboxylate-O, one sulfoxide-O and two water-O atoms, the latter being mutually cis. In all, the carboxylate ligand binds six ZnII ions leading to a three-dimensional architecture. In the crystal, all acidic donors form hydrogen bonds to oxygen acceptors to contribute to the stability of the three-dimensional architecture.

Conservative stochastic 2-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation. (arXiv:1802.04141v2 [math.PR] UPDATED)

We consider the stochastic 2-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation which is driven by the derivative in space of a space-time white noise. We use two different approaches to study this equation. First we prove that there exists a unique solution $Y$ to the shifted equation (see (1.4) below), then $X:=Y+{Z}$ is the unique solution to stochastic Cahn-Hilliard equaiton, where ${Z}$ is the corresponding O-U process. Moreover, we use Dirichlet form approach in cite{Albeverio:1991hk} to construct the probabilistically weak solution the the original equation (1.1) below. By clarifying the precise relation between the solutions obtained by the Dirichlet forms aprroach and $X$, we can also get the restricted Markov uniquness of the generator and the uniqueness of martingale solutions to the equation (1.1).

Error estimates for the Cahn--Hilliard equation with dynamic boundary conditions. (arXiv:2005.03349v1 [math.NA])

A proof of convergence is given for bulk--surface finite element semi-discretisation of the Cahn--Hilliard equation with Cahn--Hilliard-type dynamic boundary conditions in a smooth domain. The semi-discretisation is studied in the weak formulation as a second order system. Optimal-order uniform-in-time error estimates are shown in the $L^2$ and $H^1$ norms. The error estimates are based on a consistency and stability analysis. The proof of stability is performed in an abstract framework, based on energy estimates exploiting the anti-symmetric structure of the second order system. Numerical experiments illustrate the theoretical results.
