The crystal structures and Hirshfeld surface analyses of four 3,5-diacetyl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl derivatives

The title compounds, 4-(5-acetamido-3-acetyl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)phenyl benzoate, C20H19N3O4S (I), 4-(5-acetamido-3-acetyl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)phenyl isobutyrate 0.25-hydrate, C17H21N3O4S·0.25H2O (II), 4-(5-acetamido-3-acetyl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)phenyl propionate, C16H19N3O4S (III) and 4-(5-acetamido-3-acetyl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)phenyl cinnamate chloroform hemisolvate, C22H21N3O4S·0.5CHCl3 (IV), all crystallize with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit in the triclinic Poverline{1} space group. Compound II crystallizes as a quaterhydrate, while compound IV crystallizes as a chloroform hemisolvate. In compounds I, II, III (molecules A and B) and IV (molecule A) the five-membered thiadiazole ring adopts an envelope conformation, with the tetrasubstituted C atom as the flap. In molecule B of IV this ring is flat (r.m.s. deviation 0.044 Å). The central benzene ring is in general almost normal to the mean plane of the thiadiazole ring in each molecule, with dihedral angles ranging from 75.8 (1) to 85.5 (2)°. In the crystals of all four compounds, the A and B molecules are linked via strong N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and generate centrosymmetric four-membered R44(28) ring motifs. There are C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds present in the crystals of all four compounds, and in I and II there are also C—H⋯π interactions present. The intermolecular contacts in the crystals of all four compounds were analysed using Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots.

Crystal structures of trans-acetyldicarbonyl(η5-cyclopentadienyl)(1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane)molybdenum(II) and trans-acetyldicarbonyl(η5-cyclopentadienyl)(3,7-diacetyl-1,3,7-tr

The title compounds, [Mo(C5H5)(COCH3)(C6H12N3P)(CO)2], (1), and [Mo(C5H5)(COCH3)(C9H16N3O2P)(C6H5)2))(CO)2], (2), have been prepared by phosphine-induced migratory insertion from [Mo(C5H5)(CO)3(CH3)]. The molecular structures of these complexes are quite similar, exhibiting a four-legged piano-stool geometry with trans-disposed carbonyl ligands. The extended structures of complexes (1) and (2) differ substantially. For complex (1), the molybdenum acetyl unit plays a dominant role in the organization of the extended structure, joining the molecules into centrosymmetrical dimers through C—H⋯O interactions with a cyclopentadienyl ligand of a neighboring molecule, and these dimers are linked into layers parallel to (100) by C—H⋯O interactions between the molybdenum acetyl and the cyclopentadienyl ligand of another neighbor. The extended structure of (2) is dominated by C—H⋯O interactions involving the carbonyl groups of the acetamide groups of the DAPTA ligand, which join the molecules into centrosymmetrical dimers and link them into chains along [010]. Additional C—H⋯O interactions between the molybdenum acetyl oxygen atom and an acetamide methyl group join the chains into layers parallel to (101).

Anomalous small viral shells and simplest polyhedra with icosahedral symmetry: the rhombic triacontahedron case

The development of antiviral strategies requires a clear understanding of the principles that control the protein arrangements in viral shells. Considered here are those capsids that violate the paradigmatic Caspar and Klug (CK) model, and it is shown that the important structural features of such anomalous shells from the Picobirnaviridae, Flaviviridae and Leviviridae families can be revealed by models in the form of spherical icosahedral packings of equivalent rhombic structural units (SUs). These SUs are composed of protein dimers forming the investigated capsids which, as shown here, are based on the rhombic triacontahedron (RT) geometry. How to modify the original CK approach in order to make it compatible with the considered rhombic tessellations of a sphere is also discussed. Analogies between capsids self-assembled from dimers and trimers are demonstrated. This analysis reveals the principles controlling the localization of receptor proteins (which recognize the host cell) on the capsid surface.

Cardiac Survival Rates Around 6 Percent for Those Occurring Outside of a Hospital, Says IOM Report

Cardiac arrest strikes almost 600,000 people each year, killing the vast majority of those individuals, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine. Every year in the U.S., approximately 395,000 cases of cardiac arrest occur outside of a hospital setting, in which less than 6 percent survive.

Heart rate correction system and methods for the detection of cardiac events

A device for detecting a cardiac event is disclosed. Detection of an event is based on a test applied to a parameter whose value varies according to heart rate. Both the parameter value and heart rate (RR interval) are filtered with an exponential average filter. From these filtered values, the average change in the parameter and the RR interval are also computed with an exponential average filter. Before computing the average change in the parameter, large changes in the parameter over short times, which may be caused by body position shifts, are attenuated are removed, so that the average change represents an average of small/smooth changes in the parameter's value that are characteristic of acute ischemia, one of the cardiac events that may be detected. The test to detect the cardiac event depends on the heart rate, the difference between the parameter's value and its upper and lower normal values, and its average change over time, adjusted for heart rate changes. The upper and lower normal parameter values as a function of heart rate are determined from long term stored data of the filtered RR values and parameter values. Hysteeresis related data and transitory deviations from normal (e.g. vasospasm related data) are excluded from the computation of normal upper and lower parameter bounds.
