It’s JPMorgan vs. Citi as Wall Street Splits on Market Direction

(Bloomberg) -- Wall Street’s biggest firms are divided on where markets are heading to next. While most risk assets are well off their mid-March lows, when uncertainty about the global impact of the coronavirus outbreak was at its peak, there is little consensus on what is to follow. At the core of the debate is the long-term effectiveness of the massive stimulus from central banks and governments. When $8 Trillion in Global Fiscal Stimulus Still Isn’t EnoughCitigroup Inc., for one, doesn’t get the “puzzling” rise in stocks.“Extensive policy response, led by ample liquidity provided by central banks, likely contributed to the move in the markets,” economists including Igor Cesarec and Catherine Mann wrote in a note Thursday. “However, since it is not clear that markets can be propped up indefinitely, caution is warranted. Risk assets could be fragile once the cold, hard economic reality hits again.”On the other hand, JPMorgan Chase & Co. sees the stock market advance as justified -- and one which can continue.“While the collapse in economic activity is historic, so too is the global policy response to cushion the impact and support a recovery,” strategists led by Marko Kolanovic wrote in a note Thursday. “We expect risky assets to continue to recover as economies reopen and given the unprecedented policy support, though we expect a moderation in the pace of gains.”Read about JPMorgan’s call in late March that markets were probably past the worst. The MSCI AC World Index has climbed about 25% since March 23 as investor sentiment warmed toward a slew of worldwide policy measures to offset the economic impact of the pandemic. The global gauge had fallen as much as 34% from its February high, when concerns about the virus reached a peak.Looking ForwardGoldman Sachs Group Inc. and Morgan Stanley largely see gains remaining intact, with caveats.Goldman attributes the market rise to a stabilization in virus infection rates and an improvement in measures of funding and liquidity stress. The firm has already said that equities price in macroeconomic performance over a two-year time horizon and investors may look past huge economic damage.“Markets will continue to look through bad news about the depth of the economic downturn if they can continue to hold on to their view that a sizable chunk of the recent damage will be reversed by the end of next year,” strategists including Zach Pandl wrote in a note Tuesday. And Morgan Stanley is also comfortable with the disparity between asset price performance and fundamentals, noting that markets tend to lead the economy and care more about rate of changes than absolute levels.“Divergences between the market and economy are common at economic extremes,” wrote strategists including Andrew Sheets in a note Thursday. “Rate of change is key – a ‘U’ shaped recovery is fine, a ‘W’ is not.”For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.comSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source.©2020 Bloomberg L.P.

Smartwatch Showdown: Apple Watch vs. Fitbit Versa

In the world of smartwatches, the two big contenders are the Apple Watch and the Fitbit Versa. The Smartwatch Showdown infographic from The Watchstrap is very timely with recent news that Google has just acquired Fitbit.

In the world of wearable gadgets, smartwatches are all the rage at the moment. The smartwatch market is growing by the day, and new and improved devices are constantly being released. This means that picking the right smartwatch can be a real head-scratcher. To help you choose the right device for your needs, we’ve compared two of the hottest smartwatches on the market: the Apple Watch Series 4 and Fitbit Versa!

If you want to find out which of these devices came on top in the end, don’t miss the comprehensive infographic below!

First, this is a great use of infographics in content marketing! The Watchstrap is an online retailer of watch bands, and the infographic is a comparison design without being a sales pitch. It draws in traffic by providing valuable information, which build credibility for their brand.

There are a handful of things I didn’t like about the design itself that could be easily improved to make this a better infographic design:

  • Too much text. I realize there isn’t much data to work with, but they need to cut down the text in the infographic. Paragraphs of explanation don’t belong in the infographic, they belong on the landing page. The infographic should be short and draw in readers to the website if they want to learn more.

  • The scale is wrong in the Size & Design section of the infographic. The dimensions of the Apple Watch are larger, but the graphic illustration on the page is smaller. The illustrations should be visually correct to scale.

  • Eliminate any word wrap when possible. There are a number of list points that have one hanging word wrapping to a second line. This could be avoided by shortening the text or just widening the text box. There’s room in the design without wrapping some of these words.

  • The URL in the footer should link to the infographic landing page, not the home page of the company site.

  • Copyright or Creative Commons license is completely missing.

  • Don’t obscure the source by only listing the home page URL. What’s the link to the research data?

Punxsutawney Phil vs. the U.S. National Weather Service

Punxsutawney Phil’s predictions for the coming of Spring on Groundhog Day haven’t been that accurate, and the U.S. National Weather Service is here to prove it with an infographic!

Every February 2, a crowd of thousands gathers at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to await a special forecast from a groundhog named Phil. If the 20-pound groundhog emerges and sees his shadow, the United States can expect six more weeks of winter weather according to legend. But, if Phil doesn’t see his shadow, we can expect warmer temperatures and the arrival of an early spring.

Even though he’s been forecasting since 1887, Phil’s track record for the entire country isn’t perfect. To determine just how accurate he is, we’ve compared U.S. national temperatures with Phil’s forecasts. On average, Phil has gotten it right 40% of the time over the past 10 years.

Using real data wins!

For what it’s worth, Phil didn’t see his shadow in 2020, and predicted that Spring would be coming soon!

Generalized Cauchy-Kovalevskaya extension and plane wave decompositions in superspace. (arXiv:2005.03160v1 [math-ph])

The aim of this paper is to obtain a generalized CK-extension theorem in superspace for the bi-axial Dirac operator. In the classical commuting case, this result can be written as a power series of Bessel type of certain differential operators acting on a single initial function. In the superspace setting, novel structures appear in the cases of negative even superdimensions. In these cases, the CK-extension depends on two initial functions on which two power series of differential operators act. These series are not only of Bessel type but they give rise to an additional structure in terms of Appell polynomials. This pattern also is present in the structure of the Pizzetti formula, which describes integration over the supersphere in terms of differential operators. We make this relation explicit by studying the decomposition of the generalized CK-extension into plane waves integrated over the supersphere. Moreover, these results are applied to obtain a decomposition of the Cauchy kernel in superspace into monogenic plane waves, which shall be useful for inverting the super Radon transform.

I Built a VS Code Extension: Ngrok for VS Code

Over the Easter weekend, a four day weekend characterized by lockdowns all over the world, I decided to use the extra time I had at home to start a new project and learn a new skill. By the end of the weekend, I was proud to release my first VSCode extension: ngrok for VSCode.

What’s That Now?

ngrok is a command-line tool built by Alan Shreve that you can use to expose your localhost server with a publicly available URL. It’s great for sharing access to an application running on your own machine, testing web applications on mobile devices, or testing webhook integrations. For example, I’m a big fan of using ngrok to test my webhooks when I am working with Twilio applications.

Xamarin Native vs. Xamarin.Forms: How to Choose

As Android and iOS continue to dominate the mobile market, businesses need to develop applications that meet the diverse requirements of each operating system. Launching native mobile applications for Apple App Store and Google Play Store is going to be a long and expensive process. Not every business has adequate time and funds for developing native mobile applications. That is why cross-platform app frameworks have been rising to popularity.

Choosing cross-platform mobile app development services enables organizations to add their presence to both Android and iOS markets. Xamarin, recently acquired by Microsoft, is one of the best frameworks for cross-platform mobile app development. Rich features, agility, and cost-effectiveness make it an ideal choice for building cross-platform apps.

VSWR measurement circuit, radio communication apparatus, VSWR measurement method, and recording medium having VSWR measurement program stored thereon

In this VSWR measurement circuit, a power measurement unit measures the power level of a reflected signal which is included in a feedback signal which has been extracted at a second CPL which has been deployed at a position connecting to an antenna end via a cable. To this end, the VSWR measurement circuit is provided with a main signal component removal circuit, wherein the main signal which has been extracted from the prestage of a digital pre-distortion circuit, and a signal in which the feedback signal that had been extracted at the second CPL has been converted to a digital signal at an A/D CONV, are provided as inputs, the main signal component included in the feedback signal is removed, and only the reflected signal is extracted so as to be output to the power measurement unit.

Air proportioning system for secondary air in coke ovens depending on the vault vs. sole temperature ratio

A device for proportioning of secondary combustion air into the secondary air soles of coke oven chamber ovens is shown. The device is formed by a slide gate or a parallelepiped device or by plates moved by means of a thrust bar, the thrust bar being moved longitudinally in parallel to the coke oven chamber wall so that the plates move away from the secondary air apertures and open or close these. The thrust bar is moved by means of a positioning motor, with the power transmission being effected hydraulically or pneumatically. Via suitable measuring parameters, it is thus possible to optimize secondary heating so that heating is provided evenly from all sides, thus achieving an improvement in coke quality.

Berkeley Police Basically MIA At Saturday's Violent Pro-Trump Vs. AntiFa Brawl

Including a photo slideshow. Before the brawling began, officers stationed themselves at the entrances to downtown's "Peace Park."…
