The Synthesis of LSE Classifiers: From Representation to Evaluation

This work presents a first approach to the synthesis of Spanish Sign Language's (LSE) Classifier Constructions (CCs). All current attempts at the automatic synthesis of LSE simply create the animations corresponding to sequences of signs. This work, however, includes the synthesis of the LSE classification phenomena, defining more complex elements than simple signs, such as Classifier Predicates, Inflective CCs and Affixal classifiers. The intelligibility of our synthetic messages was evaluated by LSE natives, who reported a recognition rate of 93% correct answers.

What we know and do not know about video games as marketers: a review and synthesis of the literature

The video game industry (VGI) has evolved considerably, transitioning from a niche market to a substantial sector. The VGI's magnitude and the societal implications tied to video game consumption have naturally piqued the interest of scholars in marketing and consumer behaviour. This research serves a dual purpose: firstly, it consolidates existing VG literature by evaluating articles, concepts, and methodologies, systematically tracing their evolution; secondly, it outlines potential directions and implications for forthcoming research. Within this literature, a predominant focus lies on articles investigating purchase decisions concerning VGs, followed by those exploring the integration of video game consumption into broader social contexts. Notably, a limited number of articles delve into player-game interactions and experiences within gaming worlds. This imbalance can be attributed to the fact that such inquiries are often suited to psychology and multidisciplinary journals, while the marketing discipline has predominantly addressed the VGI from a marketing management standpoint.

Synthesis and structural study of the partially disordered complex hexagonal phase δ1-MnZn9.7

A detailed structural analysis of the Zn-rich δ1-MnZn9.7 phase using single-crystal X-ray diffraction is presented. The δ1 phase has been synthesized by the high-temperature synthetic route. The structure crystallizes in space group P63/mmc (Pearson symbol hP556) with unit-cell parameters: a = b = 12.9051 (2) Å and c = 57.640 (1) Å. The 556 atoms are distributed over 52 Wyckoff positions in the hexagonal unit cell: seven ordered Mn sites, 37 ordered Zn sites and eight positionally disordered Zn sites. The structure predominantly consists of Frank–Kasper polyhedra (endohedral icosahedra Zn12 and icosioctahedron Zn16) and four distinct types of glue Zn atoms. The structure comprises a 127-atom supercluster (Mn13Zn114), a 38-atom extended Pearce cluster (Mn3Zn35), a 46-atom L-tetrahedron (Mn4Zn42), a Friauf polyhedron (Zn17), a disordered icosahedral cluster (MnZn12) and four glue Zn atoms. Positionally disordered Zn sites around an Mn site can be visualized as the superimposition of three differently oriented Zn12 icosahedra.

X-ray crystallographic structure of a novel enantiopure chiral isothiourea with potential applications in enantioselective synthesis

The synthesis of a chiral isothiourea, namely, (4aR,8aR)-3-phenyl-4a,5,6,7,8,8a-hexahydrobenzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-9-ium bromide, C15H17N2S+·Br−, with potential organocatalytic and anti-inflammatory activity is reported. The preparation of the heterocycle of interest was carried out in two high-yielding steps. The hydrobromide salt of the isothiourea of interest provided suitable crystals for X-ray diffraction analysis, the results of which are reported. Salient observations from this analysis are the near perpendicular arrangement of the phenyl ring and the mean plane of the heterocycle. This conformational characteristic may be relevant with regard the stereoselectivity induced by the chiral isothiourea in asymmetric reactions. Furthermore, evidence was found for the existence of an S...Br− halogen bond.

Synthesis and crystal structure of Ba2Y0.87(1)Mn1.71(1)Te5

We report the structural characterization of a new quaternary telluride, Ba2Y0.87(1)Mn1.71(1)Te5, which was synthesized by the direct reaction of the elements inside a vacuum-sealed fused-silica tube. The quaternary phase is the first member of the Ba–M–Mn–Te system (M = Sc and Y). The composition and structure of the phase were elucidated using SEM–EDX (scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) studies. The title phase is nonstoichiometric and crystallizes in the monoclinic system (space group C2/m) having the refined unit-cell parameters a = 15.1466 (8), b = 4.5782 (3), c = 10.6060 (7) Å and β = 116.956 (2)°, with two formula units (Z = 2). The pseudo-two-dimensional crystal structure of Ba2Y0.87(1)Mn1.71(1)Te5 consists of distorted YTe6 octahedra and MnTe4 tetrahedra as the building blocks of the structure. The YTe6 octahedra are arranged to form infinite one-dimensional chains by sharing edges along the [010] direction. These chains are further connected to the MnTe4 tetrahedra along the c axis to create layered two-dimensional polyanionic [Y0.87(1)Mn1.71(1)Te5]4− units. The stuffing of Ba2+ cations in between the layers of [Y0.87(1)Mn1.71(1)Te5]4− anions brings the charge neutrality of the structure. Each Ba atom in the structure sits at the centre of a distorted monocapped trigonal prism-like polyhedron of seven Te atoms.

Synthesis and structure of trans-bis(4-amino-3-nitrobenzoato-κO)bis(4-amino-3-nitrobenzoic acid-κO)diaquamanganese(II) dihydrate

The manganese title complex, [Mn(C7H5N2O4)2(C7H6N2O4)2(H2O)2]·2H2O, is one of the first 4-amino 3-nitrobenzoic acid (4 A3NBA) monoligand metal complexes to be synthesized. It crystallizes in the centrosymmetric monoclinic space group P21/n with the complex molecules located on inversion centers. Four 4 A3NBA ligand molecules are monodentately coordinated by the Mn2+ ion through the carboxylic oxygen atoms while the other two positions of the inner coordination sphere are occupied by water molecules, giving rise to a distorted octahedron, and two water molecules are in the outer coordination sphere. There are two intramolecular hydrogen bonds in the complex molecule. The first is of the common N—H⋯O=N type, while the second is a rarely occurring very strong hydrogen bond in which a common proton is shared by two uncoordinated oxygen atoms of neighboring carboxylate groups. In the crystal, an intricate system of intermolecular hydrogen bonds links the complex molecules into a three-dimensional-network.

Synthesis, crystal structure and in-silico evaluation of arylsulfonamide Schiff bases for potential activity against colon cancer

This report presents a comprehensive investigation into the synthesis and characterization of Schiff base compounds derived from benzenesulfonamide. The synthesis process, involved the reaction between N-cycloamino-2-sulfanilamide and various substituted o-salicylaldehydes, resulted in a set of compounds that were subjected to rigorous characterization using advanced spectral techniques, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR and FT–IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, an in-depth assessment of the synthesized compounds was conducted through Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity (ADMET) analysis, in conjunction with docking studies, to elucidate their pharmacokinetic profiles and potential. Impressively, the ADMET analysis showcased encouraging drug-likeness properties of the newly synthesized Schiff bases. These computational findings were substantiated by molecular properties derived from density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP/6-31G* method within the Jaguar Module of Schrödinger 2023-2 from Maestro (Schrodinger LLC, New York, USA). The exploration of frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO) enabled the computation of global reactivity descriptors (GRDs), encompassing charge separation (Egap) and global softness (S). Notably, within this analysis, one Schiff base, namely, 4-bromo-2-{N-[2-(pyrrolidine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]carboximidoyl}phenol, 20, emerged with the smallest charge separation (ΔEgap = 3.5780 eV), signifying heightened potential for biological properties. Conversely, 4-bromo-2-{N-[2-(piperidine-1-sulfonyl)phenyl]carboximidoyl}phenol, 17, exhibited the largest charge separation (ΔEgap = 4.9242 eV), implying a relatively lower propensity for biological activity. Moreover, the synthesized Schiff bases displayed remarkeable inhibition of tankyrase poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase enzymes, integral in colon cancer, surpassing the efficacy of a standard drug used for the same purpose. Additionally, their bioavailability scores aligned closely with established medications such as trifluridine and 5-fluorouracil. The exploration of molecular electrostatic potential through colour mapping delved into the electronic behaviour and reactivity tendencies intrinsic to this diverse range of molecules.

Relationship between synthesis method–crystal structure–melting properties in cocrystals: the case of caffeine–citric acid

The influence of the crystal synthesis method on the crystallographic structure of caffeine–citric acid cocrystals was analyzed thanks to the synthesis of a new polymorphic form of the cocrystal. In order to compare the new form to the already known forms, the crystal structure of the new cocrystal (C8H10N4O2·C6H8O7) was solved by powder X-ray diffraction thanks to synchrotron experiments. The structure determination was performed using `GALLOP', a recently developed hybrid approach based on a local optimization with a particle swarm optimizer, particularly powerful when applied to the structure resolution of materials of pharmaceutical interest, compared to classical Monte-Carlo simulated annealing. The final structure was obtained through Rietveld refinement, and first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to locate the H atoms. The symmetry is triclinic with the space group Poverline{1} and contains one molecule of caffeine and one molecule of citric acid per asymmetric unit. The crystallographic structure of this cocrystal involves different hydrogen-bond associations compared to the already known structures. The analysis of these hydrogen bonds indicates that the cocrystal obtained here is less stable than the cocrystals already identified in the literature. This analysis is confirmed by the determination of the melting point of this cocrystal, which is lower than that of the previously known cocrystals.

Synthesis, characterization and structural analysis of complexes from 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine derivatives with transition metals

The synthesis and structural characterization of three families of coordination complexes synthesized from 4'-phenyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (8, Ph-TPY), 4'-(4-chlorophenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (9, ClPh-TPY) and 4'-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (10, MeOPh-TPY) ligands with the divalent metals Co2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Ni2+ are reported. The compounds were synthesized from a 1:2 mixture of the metal and ligand, resulting in a series of complexes with the general formula [M(R-TPY)2](ClO4)2 (where M = Co2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Ni2+, and R-TPY = Ph-TPY, ClPh-TPY and MeOPh-TPY). The general formula and structural and supramolecular features were determinated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction for bis(4'-phenyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine)nickel(II) bis(perchlorate), [Ni(C21H15N3)2](ClO4)2 or [Ni(Ph-TPY)2](ClO4)2, bis[4'-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine]manganese(II) bis(perchlorate), [Mn(C22H17N3O)2](ClO4)2 or [Mn(MeOPh-TPY)2](ClO4)2, and bis(4'-phenyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine)manganese(II) bis(perchlorate), [Mn(C21H15N3)2](ClO4)2 or [Mn(Ph-TPY)2](ClO4)2. In all three cases, the complexes present distorted octahedral coordination polyhedra and the crystal packing is determined mainly by weak C—H⋯π interactions. All the compounds (except for the Ni derivatives, for which FT–IR, UV–Vis and thermal analysis are reported) were fully characterized by spectroscopic (FT–IR, UV–Vis and NMR spectroscopy) and thermal (TGA–DSC, thermogravimetric analysis–differential scanning calorimetry) methods.

Stepwise consecutive reaction of [Mn(C5Br5)(PPh3)(CO)2] with n-BuLi and MeSSMe led finally to [Mn{C5(SMe)5}(PPh3)(CO)2] (11), only the fifth complex to be reported containing a perthiolated cyclopentadienyl ring. The molecular and crystal structures of 1b, 3, 4 and 11 were determined and were studied for the occurrence of S⋯S and S⋯Br interactions. It turned out that although some interactions of this type occurred, they were of minor importance for the arrangement of the molecules in the crystal.

Synthesis of organotin(IV) heterocycles containing a xanthenyl group by a Barbier approach via ultrasound activation: synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis

A series of organotin heterocycles of general formula [{Me2C(C6H3CH2)2O}SnR2] [R = methyl (Me, 4), n-butyl (n-Bu, 5), benzyl (Bn, 6) and phenyl (Ph, 7)] was easily synthesized by a Barbier-type reaction assisted by the sonochemical activation of metallic magnesium. The 119Sn{1H} NMR data for all four compounds confirm the presence of a central Sn atom in a four-coordinated environment in solution. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies for 17,17-dimethyl-7,7-diphenyl-15-oxa-7-stannatetracyclo[11.3.1.05,16.09,14]heptadeca-1,3,5(16),9(14),10,12-hexaene, [Sn(C6H5)2(C17H16O)], 7, at 100 and 295 K confirmed the formation of a mononuclear eight-membered heterocycle, with a conformation depicted as boat–chair, resulting in a weak Sn⋯O interaction. The Sn and O atoms are surrounded by hydrophobic C—H bonds. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of 7 showed that the eight-membered heterocycles are linked by weak C—H⋯π, π–π and H⋯H noncovalent interactions. The pairwise interaction energies showed that the cohesion between the heterocycles are mainly due to dispersion forces.

2,4-Diarylpyrroles: synthesis, characterization and crystallographic insights

Three 2,4-diarylpyrroles were synthesized starting from 4-nitrobutanones and the crystal structures of two derivatives were analysed. These are 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole, C15H13NOS, and 3-(4-bromophenyl)-2-nitroso-5-phenyl-1H-pyrrole, C16H11BrN2O. Although pyrroles without substituents at the α-position with respect to the N atom are very air sensitive and tend to polymerize, we succeeded in growing an adequate crystal for X-ray diffraction analysis. Further derivatization using sodium nitrite afforded a nitrosyl pyrrole derivative, which crystallized in the triclinic space group Poverline{1} with Z = 6. Thus, herein we report the first crystal structure of a nitrosyl pyrrole. Interestingly, the co-operative hydrogen bonds in this NO-substituted pyrrole lead to a trimeric structure with bifurcated halogen bonds at the ends, forming a two-dimensional (2D) layer with interstitial voids having a radius of 5 Å, similar to some reported macrocyclic porphyrins.

Analysis of COF-300 synthesis: probing degradation processes and 3D electron diffraction structure

Although COF-300 is often used as an example to study the synthesis and structure of (3D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs), knowledge of the underlying synthetic processes is still fragmented. Here, an optimized synthetic procedure based on a combination of linker protection and modulation was applied. Using this approach, the influence of time and temperature on the synthesis of COF-300 was studied. Synthesis times that were too short produced materials with limited crystallinity and porosity, lacking the typical pore flexibility associated with COF-300. On the other hand, synthesis times that were too long could be characterized by loss of crystallinity and pore order by degradation of the tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)methane (TAM) linker used. The presence of the degradation product was confirmed by visual inspection, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). As TAM is by far the most popular linker for the synthesis of 3D COFs, this degradation process might be one of the reasons why the development of 3D COFs is still lagging compared with 2D COFs. However, COF crystals obtained via an optimized procedure could be structurally probed using 3D electron diffraction (3DED). The 3DED analysis resulted in a full structure determination of COF-300 at atomic resolution with satisfying data parameters. Comparison of our 3DED-derived structural model with previously reported single-crystal X-ray diffraction data for this material, as well as parameters derived from the Cambridge Structural Database, demonstrates the high accuracy of the 3DED method for structure determination. This validation might accelerate the exploitation of 3DED as a structure determination technique for COFs and other porous materials.

Synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization of defect-rich forsterite as a representative phase of Martian regolith

Regolith draws intensive research attention because of its importance as the basis for fabricating materials for future human space exploration. Martian regolith is predicted to consist of defect-rich crystal structures due to long-term space weathering. The present report focuses on the structural differences between defect-rich and defect-poor forsterite (Mg2SiO4) – one of the major phases in Martian regolith. In this work, forsterites were synthesized using reverse strike co-precipitation and high-energy ball milling (BM). Subsequent post-processing was also carried out using BM to enhance the defects. The crystal structures of the samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and total scattering using Cu and synchrotron radiation followed by Rietveld refinement and pair distribution function (PDF) analysis, respectively. The structural models were deduced by density functional theory assisted PDF refinements, describing both long-range and short-range order caused by defects. The Raman spectral features of the synthetic forsterites complement the ab initio simulation for an in-depth understanding of the associated structural defects.

Synthesis and properties of Sr2La2NiW2O12, a new S = 1 triangular lattice magnet

Magnetic materials featuring triangular arrangements of spins are frequently investigated as platforms hosting magnetic frustration. Hexagonal perovskites with ordered vacancies serve as excellent candidates for two-dimensional triangular magnetism due to the considerable separation of the magnetic planes. In this work, the effects of chemical pressure on the ferromagnetic ground state of Ba2La2NiW2O12 by substitution of Ba2+ with Sr2+ to produce Sr2La2NiW2O12 are investigated. The two materials are characterized using synchrotron-based XRD, XANES and EXAFS in addition to magnetometry in order to correlate their crystal structures and magnetic properties. Both materials form in space group R3, yet as a result of the enhanced bending of key bond angles due to the effects of chemical pressure, the TC value of the magnetic Ni2+ sublattice is reduced from ∼6 K in Ba2La2NiW2O12 to 4 K in Sr2La2NiW2O12.

Synthesis and characterization of an organic–inorganic hybrid crystal: 2[Co(en)3](V4O13)·4H2O

Organic–inorganic hybrid crystals have diverse functionalities, for example in energy storage and luminescence, due to their versatile structures. The synthesis and structural characterization of a new cobalt–vanadium-containing compound, 2[Co(en)3]3+(V4O13)6−·4H2O (1) is presented. The crystal structure of 1, consisting of [Co(en)3]3+ complexes and chains of corner-sharing (VO4) tetrahedra, was solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the centrosymmetric space group P1. Phase purity of the bulk material was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, elemental analysis and powder X-ray diffraction. The volume expansion of 1 was found to be close to 1% in the reported temperature range from 100 to 300 K, with a volume thermal expansion coefficient of 56 (2) × 10−6 K−1. The electronic band gap of 1 is 2.30 (1) eV, and magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that the compound exhibits a weak paramagnetic response down to 1.8 K, probably due to minor CoII impurities (<1%) on the CoIII site.

Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of chloridotetrakis(pyridine-3-carbonitrile)thiocyanatoiron(II)

Reaction of FeCl2·4H2O with KSCN and 3-cyanopyridine (pyridine-3-carbonitrile) in ethanol accidentally leads to the formation of single crystals of Fe(NCS)(Cl)(3-cyanopyridine)4 or [FeCl(NCS)(C6H4N2)4]. The asymmetric unit of this compound consists of one FeII cation, one chloride and one thiocyanate anion that are located on a fourfold rotation axis as well as of one 3-cyanopyridine coligand in a general position. The FeII cations are sixfold coordinated by one chloride anion and one terminally N-bonding thiocyanate anion in trans-positions and four 3-cyanopyridine coligands that coordinate via the pyridine N atom to the FeII cations. The complexes are arranged in columns with the chloride anions, with the thiocyanate anions always oriented in the same direction, which shows the non-centrosymmetry of this structure. No pronounced intermolecular interactions are observed between the complexes. Initially, FeCl2 and KSCN were reacted in a 1:2 ratio, which lead to a sample that contains the title compound as the major phase together with a small amount of an unknown crystalline phase, as proven by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). If FeCl2 and KSCN is reacted in a 1:1 ratio, the title compound is obtained as a nearly pure phase. IR investigations reveal that the CN stretching vibration for the thiocyanate anion is observed at 2074 cm−1, and that of the cyano group at 2238 cm−1, which also proves that the anionic ligands are only terminally bonded and that the cyano group is not involved in the metal coordination. Measurements with thermogravimetry and differential thermoanalysis reveal that the title compound decomposes at 169°C when heated at a rate of 4°C min−1 and that the 3-cyanopyridine ligands are emitted in two separate poorly resolved steps. After the first step, an intermediate compound with the composition Fe(NCS)(Cl)(3-cyanopyridine)2 of unknown structure is formed, for which the CN stretching vibration of the thiocyanate anion is observed at 2025 cm−1, whereas the CN stretching vibration of the cyano group remain constant. This strongly indicates that the FeII cations are linked by μ-1,3-bridging thiocyanate anions into chains or layers.

In the crystal, C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds form chains of molecules extending along the b-axis direction, which are linked by weak C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds and C—H⋯π interactions to generate a three-dimensional network. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (68.3%), H⋯N/N⋯H (15.7%) and H⋯C/C⋯H (10.4%) interactions.

The reaction between the (R,S)-fixolide 4-methylthiosemicarbazone and PdII chloride yielded the title compound, [Pd(C20H30N3S)2]·C2H6O {common name: trans-bis[(R,S)-fixolide 4-methylthiosemicarbazonato-κ2N2S]palladium(II) ethanol monosolvate}. The asymmetric unit of the title compound consists of one bis-thiosemicarbazonato PdII complex and one ethanol solvent molecule. The thiosemicarbazononato ligands act as metal chelators with a trans configuration in a distorted square-planar geometry. A C—H⋯S intramolecular interaction, with graph-set motif S(6), is observed and the coordination sphere resembles a hydrogen-bonded macrocyclic environment. Additionally, one C—H⋯Pd anagostic interaction can be suggested. Each ligand is disordered over the aliphatic ring, which adopts a half-chair conformation, and two methyl groups [s.o.f. = 0.624 (2):0.376 (2)]. The disorder includes the chiral carbon atoms and, remarkably, one ligand has the (R)-isomer with the highest s.o.f. value atoms, while the other one shows the opposite, the atoms with the highest s.o.f. value are associated with the (S)-isomer. The N—N—C(=S)—N fragments of the ligands are approximately planar, with the maximum deviations from the mean plane through the selected atoms being 0.0567 (1) and −0.0307 (8) Å (r.m.s.d. = 0.0403 and 0.0269 Å) and the dihedral angle with the respective aromatic rings amount to 46.68 (5) and 50.66 (4)°. In the crystal, the complexes are linked via pairs of N—H⋯S interactions, with graph-set motif R22(8), into centrosymmetric dimers. The dimers are further connected by centrosymmetric pairs of ethanol molecules, building mono-periodic hydrogen-bonded ribbons along [011]. The Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the major contributions for the crystal cohesion are [atoms with highest/lowest s.o.f.s considered separately]: H⋯H (81.6/82.0%), H⋯C/C⋯H (6.5/6.4%), H⋯N/N⋯H (5.2/5.0%) and H⋯S/S⋯H (5.0/4.9%).

Synthesis, crystal structure and hydrogenation properties of MgxLi3 − xB48 − y (x = 1.11, y = 0.40)

The ternary magnesium/lithium boride, MgxLi3 − xB48 − y (x = 1.11, y = 0.40, idealized formula MgLi2B48), crystallizes as its own structure type in P43212, which is closely related to the structural family comprising α-AlB12, Be0.7Al1.1B22 and tetragonal β-boron. The asymmetric unit of title structure contains two statistical mixtures Mg/Li in Wyckoff sites 8b with relative occupancies Mg:Li = 0.495 (9):0.505 (9) and 4a with Mg:Li = 0.097 (8):0.903 (8). The boron atoms occupy 23 8b sites and two 4a sites. One of the latter sites has a partial occupancy factor of 0.61 (2). Both unique Mg/Li atoms adopt a twelvefold coordination environment in the form of truncated tetrahedra (Laves polyhedra). These polyhedra are connected by triangular faces to four [B12] icosahedra. The boron atoms exhibit four kinds of polyhedra, namely pentagonal pyramid (coordination number CN = 6), distorted tetragonal pyramid (CN = 5), bicapped hexagon (CN = 8) and gyrobifastigium (CN = 8). At the gas hydrogenation of MgLi2B48 alloy, formation of the eutectic composite hydride LiBH4+Mg(BH4)2 and amorphous boron is observed. In the temperature range 543–623 K, the hydride eutectics decompose, forming MgH2, LiH, MgB4, B and H2.

Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of the tetrakis complex NaNdPyr4(i-PrOH)2·i-PrOH with a carbacylamidophosphate of the amide type

The tetrakis complex of neodymium(III), tetrakis{μ-N-[bis(pyrrolidin-1-yl)phosphoryl]acetamidato}bis(propan-2-ol)neodymiumsodium propan-2-ol monosolvate, [NaNd(C10H16Cl3N3O2)4(C3H8O)2]·C3H8O or NaNdPyr4(i-PrOH)2·i-PrOH, with the amide type CAPh ligand bis(N,N-tetramethylene)(trichloroacetyl)phosphoric acid triamide (HPyr), has been synthesized, crystallized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The complex does not have the tetrakis(CAPh)lanthanide anion, which is typical for ester-type CAPh-based coordination compounds. Instead, the NdO8 polyhedron is formed by one oxygen atom of a 2-propanol molecule and seven oxygen atoms of CAPh ligands in the title compound. Three CAPh ligands are coordinated in a bidentate chelating manner to the NdIII ion and simultaneously binding the sodium cation by μ2-bridging PO and CO groups while the fourth CAPh ligand is coordinated to the sodium cation in a bidentate chelating manner and, due to the μ2-bridging function of the PO group, also binds the neodymium ion.

Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of a cadmium complex of naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate and o-phenylenediamine

A novel o-phenylenediamine (opda)-based cadmium complex, bis(benzene-1,2-diamine-κ2N,N')bis(benzene-1,2-diamine-κN)cadmium(II) naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate, [Cd(C6H8N2)4](C10H6O6S2), was synthesized. The complex salt crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c. The Cd atom occupies a special position and coordinates six nitrogen atoms from four o-phenylenediamine molecules, two as chelating ligands and two as monodentate ligands. The amino H atoms of opda interact with two O atoms of the naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate anions. The anions act as bridges between [Cd(opda)4]2+ cations, forming a two-dimensional network in the [010] and [001] directions. The Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that the primary factors contributing to the supramolecular interactions are short contacts, particularly van der Waals forces of the type H⋯H, O⋯H and C⋯H.

Synthesis and redetermination of the crystal structure of NbF5

Single crystals of NbF5, niobium(V) fluoride, have been obtained by the reaction of niobium metal in a stream of dilute elemental fluorine at 473 K and subsequent sublimation. The as-obtained bulk phase compound was shown to be pure by powder X-ray diffraction at 293 K and by IR and Raman spectroscopy. A single-crystal X-ray analysis was conducted at 100 K. In comparison to the previously reported structure model [Edwards (1964). J. Chem. Soc. pp. 3714–3718], the lattice parameters and fractional atom coordinates were determined to much higher precision and individual, anisotropic displacement parameters were refined for all atoms.

Synthesis, crystal structure and computational analysis of 2,7-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1,4-diazepan-5-one

In the title compound, C19H20Cl2N2O, the seven-membered 1,4-diazepane ring adopts a chair conformation while the 4-chlorophenyl substituents adopt equatorial orientations. The chlorophenyl ring at position 7 is disordered over two positions [site occupancies 0.480 (16):0.520 (16)]. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 63.0 (4)°. The methyl groups at position 3 have an axial and an equatorial orientation. The compound exists as a dimer exhibiting intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonding with R22(8) graph-set motifs. The crystal structure is further stabilized by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds together with two C—Cl⋯π (ring) interactions. The geometry was optimized by DFT using the B3LYP/6–31 G(d,p) level basis set. In addition, the HOMO and LUMO energies, chemical reactivity parameters and molecular electrostatic potential were calculated at the same level of theory. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicated that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H⋯H (45.6%), Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl (23.8%), H⋯C/C⋯H (12.6%), H⋯O/O⋯H (8.7%) and C⋯Cl/Cl⋯C (7.1%) interactions. Analysis of the interaction energies showed that the dispersion energy is greater than the electrostatic energy. A crystal void volume of 237.16 Å3 is observed. A molecular docking study with the human oestrogen receptor 3ERT protein revealed good docking with a score of −8.9 kcal mol−1.

New copper carboxylate pyrene dimers: synthesis, crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and electrochemical characterization

Two new copper dimers, namely, bis(dimethyl sulfoxide)tetrakis(μ-pyrene-1-carboxylato)dicopper(Cu—Cu), [Cu2(C17H9O2)4(C2H6OS)2] or [Cu2(pyr-COO−)4(DMSO)2] (1), and bis(dimethylformamide)tetrakis(μ-pyrene-1-carboxylato)dicopper(Cu—Cu), [Cu2(C17H9O2)4(C3H7NO)2] or [Cu2(pyr-COO−)4(DMF)2] (2) (pyr = pyrene), were synthesized from the reaction of pyrene-1-carboxylic acid, copper(II) nitrate and triethylamine from solvents DMSO and DMF, respectively. While 1 crystallized in the space group Poverline{1}, the crystal structure of 2 is in space group P21/n. The Cu atoms have octahedral geometries, with four oxygen atoms from carboxylate pyrene ligands occupying the equatorial positions, a solvent molecule coordinating at one of the axial positions, and a Cu⋯Cu contact in the opposite position. The packing in the crystal structures exhibits π–π stacking interactions and short contacts through the solvent molecules. The Hirshfeld surfaces and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were generated for both compounds to better understand the intermolecular interactions and the contribution of heteroatoms from the solvent ligands to the crystal packing. In addition, a Cu2+/Cu1+ quasi-reversible redox process was identified for compound 2 using cyclic voltammetry that accounts for a diffusion-controlled electron-donation process to the Cu dimer.

The synthesis and structural properties of a chloridobis{N-[(4-methoxyphenyl)imino]pyrrolidine-1-carboxamide}zinc(II) (acetonitrile)trichloridozincate coordination complex

The title complex, [ZnCl(C12H15N3O2)2][ZnCl3(CH3CN)], was synthesized and its structure was fully characterized through single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca (61), with a central zinc atom coordinating one chlorine atom and two pyrrolidinyl-4-methoxyphenyl azoformamide ligands in a bidentate manner, utilizing both the nitrogen and oxygen atoms in a 1,3-heterodiene (N=N—C=O) motif for coordinative bonding, yielding an overall positively (+1) charged complex. The complex is accompanied by a [(CH3CN)ZnCl3]− counter-ion. The crystal data show that the harder oxygen atoms in the heterodiene zinc chelate form bonding interactions with distances of 2.002 (3) and 2.012 (3) Å, while nitrogen atoms are coordinated by the central zinc cation with bond lengths of 2.207 (3) and 2.211 (3) Å. To gain further insight into the intermolecular interactions within the crystal, Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed, along with the calculation of two-dimensional fingerprint plots. This analysis revealed that H⋯H (39.9%), Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl (28.2%) and C⋯H/H⋯C (7.2%) interactions are dominant. This unique crystal structure sheds light on arrangement and bonding interactions with azoformamide ligands, and their unique qualities over similar semicarbazone and azothioformamide structures.

Synthesis, crystal structure and properties of poly[(μ-2-methylpyridine N-oxide-κ2O:O)bis(μ-thiocyanato-κ2N:S)cobalt(II)]

The title compound, [Co(NCS)2(C6H7NO)]n or Co(NCS)2(2-methylpyridine N-oxide), was prepared by the reaction of Co(NCS)2 and 2-methylpyridine N-oxide in methanol. All crystals obtained by this procedure show reticular pseudo-merohedric twinning, but after recrystallization, one crystal was found that had a minor component with only a very few overlapping reflections. The asymmetric unit consists of one CoII cation, two thiocyanate anions and one 2-methylpyridine N-oxide coligand in general positions. The CoII cations are octahedrally coordinated by two O-bonding 2-methylpyridine N-oxide ligands, as well as two S- and two N-bonding thiocyanate anions, and are connected via μ-1,3(N,S)-bridging thiocyanate anions into chains that are linked by μ-1,1(O,O) bridging coligands into layers. No pronounced directional intermolecular interactions are observed between the layers. The 2-methylpyridine coligand is disordered over two orientations and was refined using a split model with restraints. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) indicates that a pure sample was obtained and IR spectroscopy confirms that bridging thiocyanate anions are present. Thermogravimetry and differential thermoanalysis (TG-DTA) shows one poorly resolved mass loss in the TG curve that is accompanied by an exothermic and an endothermic signal in the DTA curve, which indicate the decomposition of the 2-methylpyridine N-oxide coligands.

Synthesis, structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 2-oxo-2H-chromen-6-yl 4-tert-butylbenzoate: work carried out as part of the AFRAMED project

In the title compound, C20H18O4, the dihedral angle between the 2H-chromen-2-one ring system and the phenyl ring is 89.12 (5)°. In the crystal, the molecules are connected through C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds to generate [010] double chains that are reinforced by weak aromatic π–π stacking interactions. The unit-cell packing can be described as a tilted herringbone motif. The H⋯H, H⋯O/O⋯H, H⋯C/C⋯H and C⋯C contacts contribute 46.7, 24.2, 16.7 and 7.6%, respectively, to its Hirshfeld surface.

An unexpected tautomer: synthesis and crystal structure of N-[6-amino-4-(methylsulfanyl)-1,2-dihydro-1,3,5-triazin-2-ylidene]benzenesulfonamide

The title compound, C10H11N5O2S2, consists of an unexpected tautomer with a protonated nitrogen atom in the triazine ring and a formal exocyclic double bond C=N to the sulfonamide moiety. The ring angles at the unsubstituted nitrogen atoms are narrow, at 115.57 (12) and 115.19 (12)°, respectively, whereas the angle at the carbon atom between these N atoms is very wide, 127.97 (13)°. The interplanar angle between the two rings is 79.56 (5)°. The molecules are linked by three classical hydrogen bonds, forming a ribbon structure. There are also unusual linkages involving three short contacts (< 3 Å) from a sulfonamide oxygen atom to the C—NH—C part of a triazine ring.

Synthesis and crystal structure of a cadmium(II) coordination polymer based on 4,4'-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5-diyl)dibenzoate

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, catena-poly[[[aquabis(pyridine-κN)cadmium(II)]-μ2-4,4'-(1H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5-diyl)dibenzoato-κ4O,O':O'',O'''] 4.5-hydrate], {[Cd(C16H9N3O4)(C5H5N)2(H2O)]·4.5H2O}n or {[Cd(bct)(py)2(H2O)]·4.5H2O}n (I), consists of a Cd2+ cation coordinated to one bct2– carboxylate dianion, two molecules of pyridine and a water molecule as well as four and a half water molecules of crystallization. The metal ion in I possesses a pentagonal–bipyramidal environment with the four O atoms of the two bidentately coordinated carboxylate groups and the N atom of a pyridine molecule forming the O4N equatorial plane, while the N atom of another pyridine ligand and the O atom of the water molecule occupy the axial positions. The bct2– bridging ligand connects two metal ions via its carboxylic groups, resulting in the formation of a parallel linear polymeric chain running along the [1overline{1}1] direction. The coordinated water molecule of one chain forms a strong O—H⋯O hydrogen bond with the carboxylate O atom of a neighboring chain, leading to the formation of double chains with a closest distance of 5.425 (7) Å between the cadmium ions belonging to different chains. Aromatic π–π stacking interactions between the benzene fragments of the anions as well as between the coordinated pyridine molecules belonging to different chains results in the formation of sheets oriented parallel to the (overline{1}01) plane. As a result of hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the water molecules of crystallization, the sheets are joined together in a three-dimensional network.

The title compound, N1,N2-dimethylethanedihydrazide, C4H10N4O2, was obtained by the methylation of oxalyl dihydrazide protected with phthalimide. The molecule is essentially non-planar with a dihedral angle between the two planar hydrazide fragments of 86.5 (2)°. This geometry contributes to the formation of a multi-contact three-dimensional supramolecular network via C—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

Synthesis, crystal structure and thermal properties of dibromidobis(2-methylpyridine N-oxide-κO)cobalt(II)

Reaction of CoBr2 with 2-methylpyridine N-oxide in n-butanol leads to the formation of the title compound, [CoBr2(C6H7NO)2] or [CoBr2(2-methylpyridine N-oxide)2]. Its asymmetric unit consists of one CoII cation as well as two bromide anions and two 2-methylpyridine N-oxide coligands in general positions. The CoII cations are tetrahedrally coordinated by two bromide anions and two 2-methylpyridine N-oxides, forming discrete complexes. In the crystal structure, these complexes are linked predominantly by weak C–H⋯Br hydrogen bonding into chains that propagate along the crystallographic a-axis. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) measurements indicate that a pure phase was obtained. Thermoanalytical investigations prove that the title compound melts before decomposition; before melting, a further endothermic signal of unknown origin was observed that does not correspond to a phase transition.

For all three compounds, the heteroatom substituents are almost coplanar with the central aromatic moiety. C—heteroatom bonding metrics are unexceptional and fall withing the typical range of C—B, C—Si, and C—O single bonds. Despite numerous electronegative sites, only weak intermolecular interactions are observed in the solid state.
