Media content spatial navigation

A method and system of providing a content guide that identifies a spatial relationship between the elements in the content guide is described. A controller receives electronic program guide data. The received electronic program guide data is parsed to identify a plurality of programs listed in the electronic program guide and data corresponding to at least one program description attribute for the identified programs. A relationship is determined between each identified program based on the at least one program description attribute. At least one cluster is generated and includes at least one of the plurality of identified programs based on the determined relationship. A user interface display processor generates a user interface display image representing a clustered content guide and including the at least one generated cluster enabling the user to view the relationship of the plurality of programs.

Internet TV module for enabling presentation and navigation of non-native user interface on TV having native user interface using either TV remote control or module remote control

A display device such as a TV has both HDMI and IP network interfaces and uses the HDMI interface to exchange IP network parameters with an audio video application module (AVAM) upon HDMI connection. In this way, an IP-based peer-to-peer or client-server network connection can be automatically established to promote faster communication when sharing and executing applications between the devices than is typically available over the CEC link of HDMI.

System and method for managing, converting and displaying video content on a video-on-demand platform, including ads used for drill-down navigation and consumer-generated classified ads

A video-on-demand (VOD) content delivery system has a VOD Application Server which manages a database of templates ordered in a hierarchy for presentation of video content elements of different selected types categorized in hierarchical order. The templates include those for higher-order displays which have one or more links to lower-order displays of specific content. The VOD Application Server, in response to viewer request, displays a high-order templatized display, and in response to viewer selection of a link, displays the lower-order display of specific content. The hierarchical templatized displays enable viewers to navigate to an end subject of interest while having a unique visual experience of moving through a series of displays to the end subject of interest.

System and method for content-based navigation of live and recorded TV and video programs

A system, method and computer-readable medium are presented for providing real-time content-based navigation of live video programming. The video programming is received and a searchable database is generated. The method aspect of the invention comprises receiving a live video program, generating an index to the received live video program by extracting images and/or text from the video program, recording the live video program, presenting at least a portion of data associated with the generated index to a user, receiving user input regarding a search to a portion of the recorded video program to which the user desires to navigate and playing back the recorded video program starting at the searched portion identified by the user input. The search may be of an image and/or text portion of the presentation.

Navigation system acquisition and use of cellular coverage map data

A mobile device can obtain wireless network signal strength map data that indicates, for various nearby geographical regions, the wireless network signal strength in each such region. A mobile device can transmit that data to a vehicular navigation system responsible for automatically selecting a high-quality route of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination. The system can take the wireless network signal map data into account when selecting that route. When selecting from among multiple different routes of vehicular travel between a specified source and destination, the system may employ an algorithm that considers wireless network signal strengths along those routes, in addition to the other factors. Consequently, the system can select a longer route having better signal strength over a shorter route having worse signal strength. The system can present the selected route within a set of suggested routes, potentially along with reasons for each route's suggestion.

Techniques for navigation among multiple images

Aspects of the disclosure relate generally to providing a user with an image navigation experience. In order to do so, a reference image may be identified. A set of potential target images for the reference image may also be identified. A drag vector for user input relative to the reference image is determined. For particular image of the set of target images an associated cost is determined based at least in part on a cost function and the drag vector. A target image is selected based on the determined associated costs.

A bridge for crossing a passage of a navigation channel includes a section in the form of a single span, which may be displaced by vertical translation between a base position spanning the passage, in which the span rests on fixed support sections of the bridge, and a raised position, for opening the passage, and a support structure for the span on displacement of the span, and a drive for lifting the span. The bridge has only one support structure, with the drive, located on one side of the passage to be spanned.

SMOOTHED NAVIGATION SOLUTION USING FILTERED RESETS

A navigation system includes at least one inertial sensor configured to detect motion of the system and generate inertial data; at least one aiding device configured to generate aiding device measurement data; at least one processing unit configured to generate an un-smoothed navigation solution inclusive of navigation state variable error resets based on the inertial data and the aiding device measurement data; wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to sum the state variable error resets into a cumulative sum of the state variable error resets; wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to high pass filter the cumulative sum of the state variable error resets; and wherein the at least one processing unit is further configured to subtract the high pass filtered cumulative sum of the state variable error resets from the un-smoothed navigation solution to generate a smoothed navigation solution.

Range marker for a navigation system

Devices, methods and systems are disclosed herein to describe a range marker for a navigation system. The range marker may delineate a bounded area within a navigation map that a vehicle may travel based on the amount of fuel remaining. As the fuel continues to decrease during operation of the vehicle, the range marker may become smaller and smaller indicating a shrinking range since the fuel remaining decreases, thereby allowing the driver to easily identify which gas stations may be within a range of the vehicle (based on a current vehicle fuel level) and which gas stations might not be within the range of the vehicle.

Coding of Navigational Distance and Functional Constraint of Boundaries in the Human Scene-Selective Cortex

For visually guided navigation, the use of environmental cues is essential. Particularly, detecting local boundaries that impose limits to locomotion and estimating their location is crucial. In a series of three fMRI experiments, we investigated whether there is a neural coding of navigational distance in the human visual cortex (both female and male). We used virtual reality software to systematically manipulate the distance from a viewer perspective to different types of a boundary. Using a multivoxel pattern classification employing a linear support vector machine, we found that the occipital place area (OPA) is sensitive to the navigational distance restricted by the transparent glass wall. Further, the OPA was sensitive to a non-crossable boundary only, suggesting an importance of the functional constraint of a boundary. Together, we propose the OPA as a perceptual source of external environmental features relevant for navigation.

SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT One of major goals in cognitive neuroscience has been to understand the nature of visual scene representation in human ventral visual cortex. An aspect of scene perception that has been overlooked despite its ecological importance is the analysis of space for navigation. One of critical computation necessary for navigation is coding of distance to environmental boundaries that impose limit on navigator's movements. This paper reports the first empirical evidence for coding of navigational distance in the human visual cortex and its striking sensitivity to functional constraint of environmental boundaries. Such finding links the paper to previous neurological and behavioral works that emphasized the distance to boundaries as a crucial geometric property for reorientation behavior of children and other animal species.

Families Experiences With Family Navigation Services in the Autism Treatment Network

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES:

Families of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often experience challenges navigating multiple systems to access services. Family navigation (FN) is a model to provide information and support to access appropriate services. Few studies have been used to examine FN’s effectiveness for families of children with ASD. This study used mixed methods to (1) characterize FN services received by a sample of families in the Autism Treatment Network; (2) examine change in parent-reported activation, family functioning, and caregiver strain; and (3) explore families’ experiences with FN services.

METHODS:

Family characteristics and parent outcomes including parent activation, family functioning, and caregiver strain were collected from 260 parents in the Autism Treatment Network. Descriptive statistics and linear mixed models were used for aims 1 and 2. A subsample of 27 families were interviewed about their experiences with FN services to address aim 3.

RESULTS:

Quantitative results for aims 1 and 2 revealed variability in FN services and improvement in parent activation and caregiver strain. Qualitative results revealed variability in family experiences on the basis of FN implementation differences (ie, how families were introduced to FN, service type, intensity, and timing) and whether they perceived improved skills and access to resources.

CONCLUSIONS:

Findings suggest FN adaptations occur across different health care delivery systems and may result in highly variable initial outcomes and family experiences. Timing of FN services and case management receipt may contribute to this variability for families of children with ASD.

The Diverse React Navigation Ecosystem

The routing ecosystem around React and React Native is quite different. One is characterized by a strong incumbent, and the other is plagued by rapid change.

React JS

No question about it, React Router (ReactTraining/react-router) is king here. They have the benefit of several years of active development, along with an active community submitting PR’s, fixes, etc. Supplement that with myriad tutorials and how-to’s and you end up with a well-supported, stable product. To be fair, React Router has suffered some major API upsets, and is nearly the poster-child for javascript fatigue but the maintainers have declared their lasting support for a few specific versions, which means you can plop down with V3 and be good to go for the next 12 to 24 months.

React Native

Ok, this is where things start to get really, really crazy. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the React Native team has produced three navigation helpers: NavigatorIOS, Navigator, and NavigatorExperimental.

  • NavigatorIOS was quickly deprecated, as it was supported only by (you guessed it) IOS.
  • Navigator is the currently endorsed solution for navigation, at least if you are following the official docs. However, its about to be upset by-
  • NavigationExperimental. This is an updated navigator that has learned some lessons from Navigator, and has some solid integration with Redux. ‘Navigator’ is (or was!) sleighted to be deprecated in favor of NavigationExperimental at some point.

Already you have three ‘official’ navigators supported by the React Native team. The big issue with all three of these is that they are somewhat lightweight and don’t include a lot of common navigation situations out of the box, like sidebars, tab bars, headers, etc. To solve that, the community has introduced…

  • React Native Router Flux (aksonov/react-native-router-flux). My personal favorite, this is router is based upon NavigationExperimental. You can imagine that the authors looked at NavigationExperimental, realized that everyone would be writing the same wrapper code around it, and so created this project.
  • React Native Router (t4t5/react-native-router). Haven’t used it, but it is colossally popular.
  • React Router Native (jmurzy/react-router-native). Strives for API conformity with React Router (the above mentioned one). The great approach here is that they bring in the concept of a URL in native apps, where one doesn’t otherwise exist. This is a great approach that simplifies a lot of common routing situations. Of course, there’s one more big solution that is supposedly going to become the standard:
  • React Navigation (react-community/react-navigation). Seen as a solution that will soon be ‘official’ in the community, it is intended to replaced NavigationExperimental. This package is still in active development, so I expect at least a bit of API upset over the coming months. If you want to use official solutions, go with this, if you want a tried and true solution, go with React Native Router Flux.
