matt Why Branding Matters Now More Than Ever By www.small-business-software.net Published On :: Fri, 29 May 2020 07:06:26 -0400 As the Covid-19 outbreak wreaks havoc on the retail industry, some are asking a curious question, namely: will companies boost their spending on branding in the aftermath the crisis? What I find strange about this question is the assumption that branding is something you turn on and off, like a light switch; that it is somehow a conscious decision or undertaking that brands embark on as necessary or when it best serves them. I suspect this is because we’ve long confused the concepts of branding and advertising. They are not the same. Advertising is what a brand says about itself to consumers. Advertising is a conscious effort on the part of a brand to promote itself, its products and its services. Advertising can be bought and sold. Advertising is transactional. Branding, on the other hand, is a very different thing. Branding is what others think and say about you. And it’s informed by a wide range of inputs, far beyond what a brand says about itself. More critical is what a brand actually does or doesn’t do. Branding reflects the sum total of every organisational action, set against the backdrop of culture, all of which reveals the true character of a company. Branding cannot be bought or sold. Branding is transformational. Full Article

matt Exploring what matters: getting the most out of educational technology research By www.downes.ca Published On :: Wed, 13 Nov 2024 08:37:00 -0400 Alexandra Mihai, The Educationalist, Nov 13, 2024 Interesting commentary on the state of research in educational technology today and what's missing. What's missing? Research that links theory through technology to needs and practices (so I summarize). Thus, Alexandra Mihai looks for "insights into how educational technology can enhance the learning process" and "how technology can contribute to addressing the increasing diversity of our learner population." Mihai also considers the impact of AI on the research process, suggesting "it's so important to maintain our agency in the research and writing process." I don't think education as a discipline has come to terms enough with how people actually learn, which (to me) explain the persistence of the sort of teacher- and institution-focused approaches Mihai asks for here. matt Term Drift In SEO - Why It Matters By www.seroundtable.com Published On :: Tue, 12 Nov 2024 07:41:00 -0500 The meanings of words and brands can change over time. The terms can drift to different meanings. Term drift happens, although it is rare amongst words and less rare with rebrands - but still, it happens. When it comes to SEO, managing term drift on your older content can prove to be an important task. The phrase "term drift" seems to have been created by Darth Autocrat (Lyndon NA) over here on X and it was in response to a brief case study shared by Glenn Gabe on X that explained and showed the importance of handling term drift within your content.Glenn showed an example of where the core query for a page changed based on how people are now referencing the main topic. He said, "The original content referenced the old way it was being referenced. It was high quality content, but just didn't reference the correct/current wording anymore."So what changed was to update the content based on how the world was referencing the new meaning of the word. He said, "the content was updated to reflect the new wording in the title tag, in the on-page title (h1), and then when it was referenced throughout the content. Basically just making sure the content wasn't referencing the old wording."What was the outcome? The ranking stability of that page of content in Google Search became stable, whereas before it was all over the place. Glenn shared this chart to show the before and after impact of this outcome. Glenn explained, "Look how stable ranking became for that query as soon as the page was updated. Literally the same day it was updated. Just a reminder to keep an eye on things like this. Quality was totally fine. The page just needed to reference the correct and current wording. Again, simple but powerful."Then Darth Autocrat (Lyndon NA) replied with the phrase, "term drift." Here are those posts:Uncovered this cool example recently. It's so simple and obvious, but powerful. The core query for this page changed based on how people are NOW referencing the main topic covered. The original content referenced the old way it was being referenced. It was high quality content,'... pic.twitter.com/XzkEE492hI'" Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) November 8, 2024 "Term drift". I like that. :)'" Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) November 8, 2024 Other people have noticed this as well:100%'" Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) November 8, 2024 No, I would never update the url for something like that. Overall, the actual url used isn't really a strong ranking factor at all. Google has explained that many times and it's what I've seen as well. And I wouldn't risk changing urls in case something goes wrong there and'...'" Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) November 8, 2024 What would be examples of this for some phrases? I am guessing maybe some of the following:Google AdWords to Google Ads Google My Business to Google Business Profiles Link building to content marketing Public relations maybe to Growth marketing I mean, there are probably hundreds of examples of this over the years. There is also "query drift":Believe @darth_na is referring to Query Drift as cited in IR documents like https://t.co/z5noOy16dE— Pedro Dias (@pedrodias) November 12, 2024 Forum discussion at X. matt A Matter of Faith and Mad Love By www.ancientfaith.com Published On :: 2021-04-02T22:31:46+00:00 Some things are to be discerned with one's mind, but others - the most important ones - should be approached based on faith and love alone. matt Apostle Matthias (1st c.) By www.ancientfaith.com Published On :: 2020-01-22T02:07:36+00:00 He was numbered among the Seventy. Then, when Judas who betrayed Christ had taken his own life, the disciples (120 men and women) convened to choose one who would take his place among the Twelve. They nominated two, Joseph (called Barsabas or Justus) and Matthias, then cast lots. The lot fell to Matthais, who henceforth was numbered among the Twelve (See Acts ch. 1). Accounts of his Apostolate after this vary. According to some, he preached the Gospel in Ethiopia and met his martyrdom there. According to others, after visiting Ethiopia he returned to Judea, where he was tried and condemned by Ananias the High Priest, and stoned to death, then beheaded. Full Article
matt Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew By www.ancientfaith.com Published On :: 2020-01-22T04:29:52+00:00 He was a Galilean, the son of Alphaeus, and was originally named Levi. He was a tax-collector (an occupation despised by the Jews of Palestine) until he met the Lord, who said to him, "Follow me." From that day he was one of the disciples. After the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Apostle was appointed to bring the Gospel to his fellow Jews, for whom, according to the Church's tradition, he wrote down the Gospel for the first time, in the Aramaic language, eight years after the Ascension. Some years later, this book was translated into Greek by St James, the first Bishop of Jerusalem. No copy in the original language has survived. Later, St Matthew traveled to Parthia and the city of Hierapolis (on the Euphrates river) to proclaim the Gospel to the pagans there. One tradition holds that he reposed in peace in that region at a great age. Another tradition holds that he was martyred by a king of that region, who later repented and was baptized, taking the name Matthew. The king then cast down the idols and established the Christian faith in his realm. When St Matthew is portrayed in icons, the likeness of a man is shown with him, one of the four living creatures spoken of in the first chapter of Ezekiel. St Irenaeus writes that the man symbolizes Christ's Incarnation. Full Article
