About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic Graduate Electronics or Embedded System Engineer to join Arm’s Hardware Platform team, who are working at the forefront in the following embedded areas:

• Development and validation of physical hardware platforms, based around Arm’s custom system-on-chip (SoC) and FPGAs.
• Creating software to test Arm systems both in simulation and in hardware (FPGA & Silicon)
• Porting existing simulation/emulation RTL validation software to real hardware
• Create and maintain Build environments & Automation tooling to ensure we supply high quality products
• Software design and implementation of reference firmware for Arm processors and systems – for example working on the software to enable our cutting-edge CoreLink secure subsystems
• Software stack development to enable Arm IP. This includes implementing HALs, drivers, connectivity, security, power and control components
• Board support firmware using STM32 and LPC11 microcontrollers
• Operating system development (Linux, mbedOS, FreeRTOS, etc)
• Development of reference software and demos for Arm Partners to use and replicate in their own products.

What will I be accountable for?

As a Graduate, you will be placed in a development team at Arm’s offices in Cambridge, UK where you will have a mentor, and be able to get to grips with the problems ranging across many software areas.  You will be working across all aspects of the software lifecycle whilst being supported by and learning from the rest of the team.  You will also be offered the opportunity to explore other teams within Arm during your first 12 months with us, as part of our Graduate Rotation programme.

Whilst a lot of our work does involve Open Source software, many tasks require working with development platforms, or simulated hardware environments where features are being developed and tested before the physical devices have been built, so the problems you will be expected to understand and solve are ones that are yet unknown to the general community.

We are looking for outstanding graduates to be part of our STL (Software Test Library) development team within our CPU group in Cambridge, UK. As part of your responsibilities, you will develop safety-critical software (often written in assembly and C) tightly couple with the internals of CPU design. You will also identify and build creative hardware features inside the CPU that improve the effectiveness of our solutions for segments where safety is of paramount importance without negatively affecting the power, performance and/or area of the core.

STLs execute opportunistically when the hardware is not fully utilized and perform continuous in-depth hardware diagnostics while the system is in operation. It identifies and notifies about functional misbehaviors derived from permanent faults triggered by natural hardware wear-out, or other uncontrollable factors before they may translate into catastrophic system failures with undesirable and even dangerous consequences.

If you are passionate about understanding the interaction between hardware and software, have used some HDL language (Verilog or VHDL) and can program on assembly and/or C, this could be an excellent opportunity to start your career with an exciting challenge. We work on a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment that will motivate you to further improve your skills and also contribute and get deep knowledge on Arm CPU designs and development processes. Engineers with large experience in the field will coach you and help you navigate and learn the complexities of the CPU internals and the mechanisms to meet expectations on safety from emerging markets.

On January 11, 2023, Army General Valery Gerasimov was appointed Commander of the Russian grouping of troops in the zone of the special military operation in Ukraine. On Thursday, February 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered his annual Address to the Federal Assembly. War correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny, who was injured in an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, was hospitalised in serious condition to a regional clinical hospital. On Monday, September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation with a speech to commemorate the Day of Reunification of Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhya and Kherson Regions with Russia. When congratulating citizens of Russia on this "truly fateful event," he said that Russia had not abandoned "its brothers and sisters" in the Donbass region. Ordnance Survey adds geological data to its Data Hub  Geographical Magazine

Following the work of Day & Hawthorne [Acta Cryst. (2022), A78, 212–233] and Day et al. [Acta Cryst. (2024), A80, 258–281], the program GraphT–T has been developed to embed graphical representations of observed and hypothetical chains of (SiO4)4− tetrahedra into 2D and 3D Euclidean space. During embedding, the distance between linked vertices (T–T distances) and the distance between unlinked vertices (T⋯T separations) in the resultant unit-distance graph are restrained to the average observed distance between linked Si tetrahedra (3.06±0.15 Å) and the minimum separation between unlinked vertices is restrained to be equal to or greater than the minimum distance between unlinked Si tetrahedra (3.713 Å) in silicate minerals. The notional interactions between vertices are described by a 3D spring-force algorithm in which the attractive forces between linked vertices behave according to Hooke's law and the repulsive forces between unlinked vertices behave according to Coulomb's law. Embedding parameters (i.e. spring coefficient, k, and Coulomb's constant, K) are iteratively refined during embedding to determine if it is possible to embed a given graph to produce a unit-distance graph with T–T distances and T⋯T separations that are compatible with the observed T–T distances and T⋯T separations in crystal structures. The resultant unit-distance graphs are denoted as compatible and may form crystal structures if and only if all distances between linked vertices (T–T distances) agree with the average observed distance between linked Si tetrahedra (3.06±0.15 Å) and the minimum separation between unlinked vertices is equal to or greater than the minimum distance between unlinked Si tetrahedra (3.713 Å) in silicate minerals. If the unit-distance graph does not satisfy these conditions, it is considered incompatible and the corresponding chain of tetrahedra is unlikely to form crystal structures. Using GraphT–T, Day et al. [Acta Cryst. (2024), A80, 258–281] have shown that several topological properties of chain graphs influence the flexibility (and rigidity) of the corresponding chains of Si tetrahedra and may explain why particular compatible chain arrangements (and the minerals in which they occur) are more common than others and/or why incompatible chain arrangements do not occur in crystals despite being topologically possible.

Combined 100 ms resolved grazing-incidence small/wide-angle X-ray scattering and optical interferometry reveal that the additive diiodooctane can significantly double the solvent evaporation rate, thereby effectively suppressing the rapid spinodal decomposition process in the early stage of spin-coasting, favouring slow phase segregation kinetics with nucleation and growth.

This article describes the diffraction pattern (2-periodic Fourier transform) from the vertices of a large patch of the recently discovered `Spectre' tiling – a strictly chiral aperiodic monotile. It was reported recently that the diffraction pattern of the related weakly chiral aperiodic `Hat' monotile was 2-periodic with chiral plane-group symmetry p6 [Kaplan et al. (2024). Acta Cryst. A80, 72–78]. The diffraction periodicity arises because the Hat tiling is a systematic aperiodic deletion of vertices from the 2-periodic hexagonal mta tiling. Despite the similarity of the Hat and Spectre tilings, the Spectre tiling is not aligned with a 2-periodic lattice, and its diffraction pattern is non-periodic with chiral point symmetry 6 about the origin.

The reaction of titanium(IV) chloride with sodium hexa­fluoro­iso­pro­pox­ide, carried out in hexa­fluoro­iso­propanol, produces titanium(IV) hexa­fluoro­iso­pro­pox­ide, which is a liquid at room temperature. Recrystallization from coordinating solvents, such as aceto­nitrile or tetra­hydro­furan, results in the formation of bis-solvate com­plexes. These com­pounds are of inter­est as possible Ziegler–Natta polymerization catalysts. The aceto­nitrile com­plex had been structurally characterized previously and adopts a distorted octahedral structure in which the nitrile ligands adopt a cis configuration, with nitro­gen lone pairs coordinated to the metal. The low-melting tetra­hydro­furan com­plex has not provided crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray analysis. However, the structure of chlorido­tris­(hexa­fluoro­isopropoxido-κO)bis­(tetra­hydro­furan-κO)titanium(IV), [Ti(C3HF6O)3Cl(C4H8O)2], has been obtained and adopts a distorted octa­hedral coordination geometry, with a facial arrangement of the alkoxide ligands and adjacent tetra­hydro­furan ligands, coordinated by way of metal–oxygen polar coordinate inter­actions.

The reaction between 2-pyridyl­selenenyl chloride and isobutyro­nitrile results in the formation of the corresponding cationic pyridinium-fused 1,2,4-seleno­diazole, namely, 3-(propan-2-yl)-1,2,4-[1,2,4]selena­diazolo[4,5-a]pyridin-4-ylium chloride, C9H11N2Se+·Cl−, in high yield (89%). The structure of the compound, established by means of single-crystal X-ray analysis at 100 K, has monoclinic (P21/c) symmetry and revealed the presence of bifurcated chalcogen-hydrogen bonding Se⋯Cl−⋯H—Cl, and these non-covalent contacts were analysed by DFT calculations followed by a topological analysis of the electron-density distribution (ωB97XD/6-311++G** level of theory).
