OK, first, let me drop my biases: I can be a cynical person and I'm pretty high energy — like hyper hyper — which has made meditation difficult for me. I can get both mentally and physically uncomfortable while trying anything resembling meditation or therapy or sincere reflection.

That being said, amid the pandemic — and battling some, let's say, serious anxiety — I've been taking active steps to try to improve my mental health. Therapy, meditation, exercise, whatever else, it all seemed like a good idea to help me get through the day. Read more...

2013 Draws to a Close: Clean Energy Scorecard

Global private capital renewable energy investments are still above $250 billion for 2013. While the final numbers are not in yet, 3rd quarter global renewable energy investments, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s latest data on deals and projects, notes slightly lower global investment than in 2012 due faltering “political will to decarbonise energy mix.” They further note that the third quarter’s decline in investment will push the year’s overall investment in renewable energy and energy-smart technologies down below 2012's $281 billion. But $250+ billion ain’t shabby.

EWC Jefferson Fellowships Deadline Draws Near
HONOLULU (June 5) – The deadline for the 2007 Fall  East-West Center Jefferson Fellowships applications is drawing near, according to Susan Kreifels, East-West Center media programs coordinator. Kreifels says all applications must be filed by June 20.

The Fall program, Mekong on the Move: Asia’s New Economic Frontier?, is open to Asian, Pacific Island, and U.S. journalists with at least five years experience. The three-week travel and dialogue program takes place Sept. 30 through Oct. 21. It begins at the East-West Center in Honolulu with journalists traveling from there to Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi.

Qualified journalists wishing to apply should visit the East-West Center website at www.eastwestcenter.org/jefferson for applications and details.
