Ruth "Joan" Boyanovsky of Springville passed away on April 25, 2020, at the age of 91 after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Joan is survived by her son, John (Betsi)
of Springville; daughter, Jane French of Waubeek; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Shane) Leytem of Mechanicsville, Erin Edenfield, Kari (Tad) Clothier and JD Boyanovsky, all of Springville; seven great-grandchildren, Ciara (Travis) Smith, Taylor Edenfield, Alexa Hutchcroft, Devin and Prestin Leytem and Kelcie and Carsyn Clothier; and great-great-grandson, Hayden Smith.
Joan was born July 10, 1928, and was a graduate of Marion High School. She was a longtime Springville resident who had been an avid golfer, gardener and animal lover. She loved baking, and could always be found with a book by her side. She had a great love of sports and always had golf, NASCAR, basketball, football or baseball on TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett (Cy) and Elizabeth Gibson; her husband, Jack; and son, Jim.
Joan will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Memorials can be directed to the family at this time.

We review and critique Boyu Sima's paper, "A solution of the P versus NP problem based on specific property of clique function," (arXiv:1911.00722) which claims to prove that ${ m P} eq{ m NP}$ by way of removing the gap between the nonmonotone circuit complexity and the monotone circuit complexity of the clique function. At that point, you begin to have hope that all the atrocities and injustices Elwood endured—including the years he spent being abused at the Nickel Academy, a reform school in Florida, were not his undoing, even as you know that probably isn’t the case. “The Nickel Boys” is Whitehead’s ninth novel and is based on the true story of a 1960s reform school for boys. Elwood should have never been at Nickel. Before arriving there, things were going well for him. He was a serious, hardworking, and cerebral young man. His grandmother had shielded him from most external forces. For example, she got him a job at a store to keep him busy, and kept him away from the speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King

In 2014, a pair of crimes shocked Israelis and Palestinians. The first was the abduction and murder of three Israeli boys by a Hamas-linked group. Then there was an act of reprisal—the torture, burning, and murder of a Palestinian teen-ager named Mohammed Abu Khdeir—by Israeli right-wing extremists. Even by the standards of this conflict, the killings were shocking. 

“Our Boys,” a co-production of HBO and the Israeli Keshet Studios, examines the forces that led to Abu Khdeir’s killing. It is not for the faint of heart, David Remnick says, but the series is as complex and deep a portrayal of the conflict as he has ever seen. Remnick spoke with two of the creators: Hagai Levi, an Israeli Jew, and Tawfiq Abu Wael, a Palestinian living in Israel. Abu Wael tells Remnick why he resisted pressure from activists not to participate in an Israeli production.

With campouts in the outdoors currently not allowed, the Mount Baker Council, which has troops in Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties, is hosting a virtual campout this weekend for Boy Scouts and their families.

A 23-year-old man who worked as a paraeducator at Glacier Elementary School in Maple Valley has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault against a student. The man is now on administrative leave and officials with the Tahoma School District are reviewing his other job assignments.
