shame Shame and Forgivness and God By www.ancientfaith.com Published On :: 2017-06-05T00:04:21+00:00 "The experience of forgiveness is much more organic, more relational. Forgiveness is actually something that grows. St. Theophan says that it is necessary to develop the hope that comes from working on our salvation (i.e. cooperating with God’s Grace through repentance and spiritual disciplines). And it is this hope that begins to release us from shame and is the evidence of growing or maturing forgiveness. 'Without it,' St. Theophan says, 'there can be no beginning of the work of salvation; and even more so, no continuation. But there it was in conception; here it is mature.' For St. Theophan, it seems, forgiveness and the accompanying release from shame is something that is conceived in us and grows to maturity." Full Article

I was ashamed to listen to professors, doctors of science, academicians. Why was I ashamed? Professors were talking about classic heart surgery like shunting, blood vessel replacement, transplantation. They said that heart transplantation would soon become a mass operation in the future with the help of human cloning. Infarct, ischemia patients come to see me now. Several months pass by and they recover from their diseases.” This was said by Ivan Pavlovich Neumyvakin — a professor, a doctor of science, Honored Inventor of Russia, a State Prize winner. The professor has been working in the field of space medicine for 30 years, since 1959. He developed methods to render medical help to cosmonauts for various duration flights. Some of those methods have already saved a lot of people, who suffer from heart diseases. The professor's methods help to prevent from the development of those diseases. Full Article Health

shame MeFi: A US immigrant on racism and shame By www.metafilter.com Published On :: Tue, 01 Dec 2020 04:47:21 -0800 One of the surprises of the 2020 Presidential election was that Trump's percentage of immigrant votes grew. By this I mean that my white friends were surprised. I was not surprised. Let's talk about immigrant racism. To look at me, I am white. I have certainly benefited from my skin color throughout my life, but that whiteness was a suit I had to learn to wear. When my family moved to Philadelphia in 1970, they were moving into one of the most racist cities in America at the time, presided over by racist mayor Frank Rizzo. shame Pediatric Trial Enrollment (Shameless DIA Self-Promotion, Part 1) By www.placebocontrol.com Published On :: Wed, 19 Jun 2013 22:19:00 +0000 [Fair Warning: I have generally tried to keep this blog separate from my corporate existence, but am making an exception for two quick posts about the upcoming DIA 2013 Annual Meeting.] Improving Enrollment in Pediatric Clinical Trials Logistically, ethically, and emotionally, involving children in medical research is greatly different from the same research in adults. Some of the toughest clinical trials I've worked on, across a number of therapeutic areas, have been pediatric ones. They challenge you to come up with different approaches to introducing and explaining clinical research – approaches that have to work for doctors, kids, and parents simultaneously. On Thursday June 27, Don Sickler, one of my team members, will be chairing a session titled “Parents as Partners: Engaging Caregivers for Pediatric Trials”. It should be a good session. Joining Don are 2 people I've had the pleasure of working with in the past. Both of them combine strong knowledge of clinical research with a massive amount of positive energy and enthusiasm (no doubt a big part of what makes them successful). However, they also differ in one key aspect: what they work on. One of them – Tristen Moors from Hyperion Therapeutics - works on an ultra-rare condition, Urea Cycle Disorder, a disease affecting only a few hundred children every year. On the other hand, Dr. Ann Edmunds is an ENT working in a thriving private practice. I met her because she was consistently the top enroller in a number of trials relating to tympanostomy tube insertion. Surgery to place “t-tubes” is one of the most common and routine outpatients surgeries there is, with an estimated half million kids getting tubes each year. Each presents a special challenge: for rare conditions, how do you even find enough patients? For routine procedures, how do you convince parents to complicate their (and their children’s) lives by signing up for a multi-visit, multi-procedure trial? Ann and Tristen have spent a lot of time tackling these issues, and should have some great advice to give. For more information on the session, here’s Don’s posting on our news blog.
