I've lost my paint

I remember reading a post on either Metafilter/Ask Metafilter in which the comment section got onto the topic of white interior house paint. One person commented that "Such-and-such white paint is the best" with a link. Many people favorited it and I think several agreed with the declaration in subsequent comments. I thought, "What is this great paint that people seem to love?" I clicked through to the paint color and thought, "oh yes, that really is a VERY good white interior paint color." Now I am in need of white interior paint, looking for that comment/link, and I can't find it.

Europe's Economy Was Hit Hard Too, But Jobs Didn't Disappear Like In The U.S.

When the British economy ground to a halt a few weeks ago, Reda Maher suddenly found himself among the ranks of the unemployed, alongside untold millions of other people around the world. But unlike many others, Maher can rest easy, knowing that money will keep flowing into his bank account until he's called back to work. "I woke up a couple of hours later than I normally would. I won't lie," Maher said one afternoon earlier this month. "I took a nice long masked and gloved walk. I've got a remote personal training like fitness session in about 20 minutes." The United Kingdom recently began paying 80% of the salaries of workers laid off because of the coronavirus pandemic. The government caps the pay at about $3,000 a month, but many employers, including the London-based video streaming service where Maher works, add to what the government hands out. Maher also doesn't need to worry about being left without health care coverage, thanks to Britain's National Health Service. Across

School Bus Driver: I Lost My Job Over The Dispatch Radio

Angelita Wynn has driven a school bus for six years. Wynn was driving the kids back home on her afternoon run in Pittsburgh one day in March when she got word her job was going away. Over the radio. "Our dispatcher came across the radio saying that school was closed, so that's how I found out," Wynn said. "And that's the last time I've been in the bus." Her favorite thing about her job was the sense of freedom it offered, where driving can get you from one place to another. Her least favorite thing: It didn't pay a living wage. Wynn notes that most school bus drivers are retired or married to someone who brings in another income. "If you don't fit in those categories it can be a struggle," she said. She typically collects unemployment during the summer when school is not in session. But the abrupt layoff this spring and a weeks-long delay in getting her jobless benefits has thrown her for a loop. "My bank account is in the negative," Wynn said. "I've had to rely on savings that will

Platinum-Selling Songwriter Jimmy Webb On The Stories Behind His Biggest Hits

Platinum-selling songwriter Jimmy Webb stopped by our studio last October to talk about his first memoir, " The Cake And The Rain ." Artists from Frank Sinatra to Barbara Streisand have recorded Webb's songs. Some of his hits include “Up, Up and Away,” “Wichita Lineman,” “MacArthur Park,” and “By The Time I Get to Phoenix.” Our conversation begins with a discussion of his childhood in rural Elk City, Oklahoma. He explains how his mother’s “iron will and sometimes anger” drove him to the piano. Plus, Webb talks about the time he was out plowing a field when a voice on the radio captivated him. It belonged to Glen Campbell , who became a close collaborator of Webb’s. He reveals the story behind his celebrated classic "By The Time I Get To Phoenix," for which Campbell won two Grammy awards. Webb also talks about his hit "Wichita Lineman," another song that Campbell recorded. Once, at the Songwriters Hall of Fame , Billy Joel described “Wichita Lineman” as being “emblematic of an ordinary

The Man, The Myths And The Music Of 'Hamilton'

Today we're talking about one of the biggest sensations in the history of American theatre: "Hamilton: An American Musical." Composer, lyrisict, and preformer Lin-Manuel Miranda was inspired to create "Hamilton" after reading Ron Chernow's 800-page biography of Alexander Hamilton. Fans of the mega-hit "Hamilton" have waited impatiently for a chance to see the show here in Georgia—and now that opportunity has arrived . The Tony-winning musical is now at the Fox Theatre through June 11. Our guests today are David Sehat , an Associate Professor of American History at Georgia State University, and Rick Lombardo , a seasoned theatrical director who is now the chairman of the Kennesaw State University theater department. Sehat tells us about Alexander Hamilton’s place in history and weighs the musical’s accuracy. Plus, Lombardo and Sehat discuss Miranda's decision to cast actors of color in roles as Founding Fathers. This is a music-packed coversation about the man, the myths, and the music

No Emmys For Films On TV If They're Eligible For Oscars

Feature films will no longer be able to double dip from both the Oscars and the Emmys, says the Television Academy. In a statement, the academy said it supports a recent decision by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board of governors. That board decided to relax its rules for the 2021 Oscars in response to movie theaters being closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, this year's feature films that were originally slated for the big screen and are being streamed or available on demand will be eligible for the Oscars. But those same nominees will no longer be considered for the Emmys, according to rules the Television Academy laid out Thursday. In recent years, the line between film and television has been blurring. Last year, the National Geographic documentary feature Free Solo won an Oscar and two Emmy Awards. Copyright 2020 NPR. Is my fabric ill-advised?

I'm sewing masks to donate, and a lot of the fabric in my stash is the Alexander Henry "Leis, Luaus & Alohas" print. What do we think about it? Is it racist?

I see this fabric a cheerful, but maybe I'm too accustomed to it. Or maybe it's charming and I'm overthinking it.

My masks all have a plain side and a patterned side, so any recipient could choose to keep that side hidden, but I don't want to make anyone unhappy about receiving a mask made from it. I'm donating masks through an organization and they're going to a large range of people.

How unsafe is my apartment laundry room right now?

The one vector between me and total isolation is my apartment laundry room. Am I overestimating my risk?

I am in a better coronavirus situation than many. It's me and my three-year-old, and there is no other adult to fail to comply with the rules. I continue to get paid and am working from home. I do get occasional grocery delivery, but I do have enough stockpiled at this point that I don't have to do that very often and I could cut that out if I need to for the time being.

I am prone to anxiety, and in the past have fixated on small details as an outlet for this. For example, when my son was a baby I did a lot of reading about and see if sleeping situations and was extremely vigilant about his crib and its condition. My rational brain knows that the odds for such a thing to happen are remote. But it was something I could control and it gave me comfort to control it. I feel like this laundry situation might be the same thing.

I do feel nervous when we go outside but I'm careful to not touch anything and sanitize our hands as soon as we are outside. So I tell myself that's OK. But the laundry...there is no getting around it. It's a communal laundry room. It's making me crazy to the point I've contemplated moving.

To be fair, the last time I visited the laundry room was this morning. I went first thing in the morning and the only person I encountered was the super, and she was gloved and masked and in the process of cleaning the elevator buttons. I do think my building is taking the reasonable precautions. I guess I'm just not really clear on how big a vector this might be? Like, I could be terrifying myself over a strawman here?

So, talk me down from the ledge. We stay away from people, we wash our hands as soon as we come inside. Are we likely to have anything dire occur to us from our visit to the laundry room?

my

Why would my temperature be consistently high for weeks?

Asking for friend: Normally my temperature tends to run a little low: 97.8-98.3 is typical. For the past two months, my temperature has been consistently around 99.5, about a degree and half above what is normal for me. What would cause that?

I have a couple of long term, chronic health problems but no new symptoms that make me think I have a current infection. Blood tests taken shortly after this started were normal. Is this my new normal? Is there something I should ask my doctor to check out?

Please help me retrieve my Yahoo account

A couple of weeks ago when I went to log into Yahoo, I got the following message right after typing in my user name: 'Sorry, we were unable to proceed with your request. Please try again.' Since then, no amount of trying has gotten me further. Can you help me retrieve my account?

No matter what I try, I get the above error message as soon as I type in my user name. If I click 'Forgotten user name' I get the following:

'Oh no..

Your session timed out for security purposes while you were away... let's try this again.'

Initially, I thought this happened because I was trying out the ProtonVPN while trying to log in, and had been jumping around countries to test the VPN. But I haven't done that in over 10 days now, so in theory I reckon I should be able to log in, right?

Haven't found anything useful strictly about this on the internet like you sometimes do for error messages and have been effectively shut out of my account, which still contains a lot of important info. This has been my account for 15 years.

Not sure what other info to provide and not sure what help exactly I am hoping for, since I don't understand what's going on, but if you have any advice, I'd be grateful.

I'm using Firefox, and have myBlock Origin and Privacy Badger installed.

PS. Not sure this is relevant, but at around the same time my country's OLX has changed it's UI and I'm getting error messages each time I try to use it, something that roughly translates to 'The IP address you are using seems to be associate with a low-security source of traffic.' Noting this in case the two are connected.

All other sites I've tried to so far are working OK.

Thanks a lot!

DIY :: How to make my mix sound professional

Ive been making music for couple of years now but still cant figure out why my mix doesnt sound professional. Im I doing something wrong? This is the link to my tracks http://www.ourmedia.org/node/300488 Someone please help me out.

my

DIY :: How to make my mix sound professional (Reply)

The 100% guaranteed way to get your bedroom mixes to sound more professional (and by far the most expensive) is to spend time in a recording studio. Take the raw tracks to something you want to mix, import it into their ProTools setup (or whatever they use) and have a pro engineer (must be a talkative, friendly one, not a grumpy, cynical one) to mix it. ASK A BILLION questions, be a dork and write stuff down if you have to. The worst case scenario is that after 2/3 hours at least you'll know what questions to ask of Google or at the local tech book store. The best case is that your music impresses the engineer and he/she becomes a pseudo mentor for you. Engineering is by far my weakest area (along with playing in tune and in time) so everything that follows is said that caveat: I have found that going cheap on mastering tools (compression, limiters, eq) hurts bedroom mixes a lot. Money I've spent on the top utilities there (I use Waves) dwarfs all my other plugins put together by an order of magnitude. (Reason's mastering suite is pretty good so you may be covered there; although I've applied Waves L2 to mixes done after the 'final' Reason mixdown and there's no question there was a marked improvement in pro-sheen.) I have found tweakheadz site very useful, especially their mixing 101 page. Finally I have been told (and have experienced it myself) that posting often to ccM and asking for real, brutal reviews and feedback has helped a lot of people. I, for one, am very, very embarrassed by several of my uploads from 2 years ago here, while only very embarrassed by more recent ones; all strictly due to people hearing stuff I didn't.

my

DIY :: How to make my mix sound professional (Reply)

that sounds good. ill look for a studio near my place. at the end you said that the comments from ccmixer is very useful but what shall i do if i want a brutal review of my own original mix? because on ccmixer i can only upload remixes or samples or separate tracks.
