Army veteran shares story of resilience to teach skills that saved his life

Army veteran Adam Hartswick lost both of his legs due to a IED explosion while he was serving in Afghanistan, but his life was saved by proper tourniquet use. Now, he works with the Justice and Safety Institute, a Penn State Outreach program, to train law enforcement on the technique that saved his life.

First Case Of Avian Influenza Detected On Kent County, Delaware farm

Federal laboratory testing has confirmed a highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI) case in a commercial broiler farm in Kent County, Delaware. DIAA Announces Scholar Athlete Awards

The DIAA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 DIAA/Harry Roberts-Senior Scholar Athlete awards. There were fifteen applications this year, nine from female students and six from males. The Award is named in recognition and memory of Dr. Harry Roberts, former Superintendent of the Caesar Rodney School District who served DIAA on several committees, most notably as Chair of the DIAA Sportsmanship committee for many years.

Delaware’s First 2024 Evidence of West Nile Virus Detected in DNREC’s Sentinel Chickens

West Nile Virus (WNV) has been detected in Delaware for the first time for 2024 in sentinel chickens that help the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control monitor the state for mosquito-borne illnesses, DNREC announced today. The initial WNV occurrence was found in eight sentinel chickens sampled July 22 by the DNREC Mosquito Control Section which returned positive test results from the Delaware Division of Public Health Laboratory two days later.

McMaster Technique Offers Delaware Livestock Producers and Veterinarians More Options in Herd Health

he Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA) announced beginning October 15, 2024, the cost of fecal analysis testing performed by the Poultry and Animal Health Section will increase to $3.00 per sample. The Poultry and Animal Health Section will begin offering livestock fecal sample analysis using the McMaster technique for relevant livestock species, and the current qualitative fecal float testing will still be performed as appropriate by species.
