Long Term Life Tips: Top 5 Regrets People Make on their Deathbed

Long Term Life Tips: Top 5 Regrets People Make on their Deathbed:

An astonishing “top 5 list” blog comes to us via longtermtips and I’m pleased to say I’m pretty sure I won’t have any of these regrets when my time inevitably comes.

By Bronnie Ware (who worked for years nursing the dying)

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives.

People grow a lot when they…

Reading Less, writing more. Or "How I learned to hate Twitter and Facebook"

I love knowing what my friends and family are up to. I love finding out about the latest thoughts going on within my peer groups. I enjoy reading many blogs, newsletter and emails. I used to regularly get over 400 emails a day including group/mailing list traffic, followed over a thousand people on Twitter and was friends with more than 250 people on Facebook. I subscribed to over 200 blogs. I read all of it, all the time.

Mix in LinkedIn, reddit, Hacker News and a few other corners of the web, and we’re suddenly talking about a lot of data flowing into my head.

I’m led to believe that some even value the contributions I make myself from time to time.

However, I’m about to start dialling all that down. I’ve made a start in some places, but over time I’m going to stop reading anywhere near as much short-form (twitter, Facebook, etc.), a little less medium-long form (blogs), and use the time to start reading longer form work again (books) and creating more.

The reason is not because of burn-out, cynicism or some other excuse: I’m not arguing that it’s all pointless, and I’m not being a Luddite. I just want to create more, and there are only so many hours in the day.

This was prompted by going back over my resolutions posted here in December, and realising I’ve made little progress:

  • I need to get my weight down. I’m finally prepared to do something about it.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading up on this in recent months. Worried that as I attempted to cut calories I actually gained weight, I decided to go back to the science the calorie-counting diets are based on and made a shock discovery: there is no science.
There is absolutely no evidence that calorie counting works. Not one experiment has been able to show that calorie-counting is successful.
Managing carbohydrates? Different story.
I’d like to write about this some more, and I’d like to share my diet in detail and provide some raw data almost “live”. Consider it a series of scientific experiments on one person done in public. I need to think about the details of doing this more, but this is one resolution that I need to kick up a gear on above any other.
  • I want to create more, so will aim to not go more than two or three consecutive days without working on something creative in 2012. It could be writing (here, for example), it could be code for a personal project, or it could be something I’ve never really tried before (music? art? Don’t know yet). I basically want to spend less time reading/consuming and more time doing stuff. David Tate provides excellent inspirationif you want to consider doing the same. I’ll try to document as much of that as possible here.
I have failed at this dismally. I mean, really, really, really badly. I get to be quite creative in my work, but that wasn’t the goal here. My goal was to be somebody who contributed more online than I took, and in that respect, I’ve failed dismally.
I have a lot of ideas in this regard as to how to correct this fault, but it’s going to take a few weeks of planning to commit to it. I know by reading less social network commentary, blog output and community websites, I’m going to have more time to do that planning, and also to create things.
I work long days, and have just a few hours a day in which to address this, so please be patient with me.
  • I’m going to try and shift from always being behind/late for almost everything going on in my life, to being early. I don’t know how I’m going to do this, but I suspect if I can pull it off, I’ll be calmer and happier as a result.

This, I am happy to report, seems to have actually happened for the most part. Public transport not withstanding - including my own self-sabotage - I tend to be where I need to be on-time (or early), far more than I was last year.

Back to the main point: by reading what’s going on out there, by trying out new apps, by listening to all these voices, I am feeling engaged and plugged in, but only as a consumer. The purpose of the Internet is not to simply consume but to create, amend, edit, destroy, vandalise and promote. Ideas, content, products, whatever.

Also, am I the only one who has noticed how exhausting this hosepipe of information can be on a daily - even hourly - basis? I’m tired of consuming. It’s worse than television - at least with television an editor or commissioner has attempted to do some curation.

So I’m not departing, I’m not shutting down accounts, I’m just going to read a great deal less online, to the point the relevant apps might disappear off my phone. In return, I should be able to produce a few new things to share. Watch this space!

Oil Prices Recover After Israel Retaliates Against Hezbollah

Oil prices saw a partial recovery on Tuesday following Israel’s military response to Hezbollah’s recent attacks. The geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have once again highlighted the region’s critical role in global energy markets, causing fluctuations in oil prices. The latest conflict began when Hezbollah launched a series of rocket attacks into northern Israel, prompting a swift and decisive retaliation from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF targeted key Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, aiming to neutralize the threat and prevent further escalation. This exchange of hostilities has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil supplies from the region, which is a significant factor in the global energy market. In response to these developments, Brent crude futures rose by 2.5%, settling at $82.30 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures increased by 2.7%, closing at $78.50 per barrel. Analysts attribute this rebound to fears of supply chain disruptions and the market’s sensitivity to geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Energy market experts have noted that while the immediate impact on oil production and supply routes remains limited, the situation underscores the vulnerability of global oil markets to regional conflicts. The Middle East accounts for a substantial...

Large Oil and Gas Reserves Discovered in Pakistan’s Territorial Waters

Recently, a significant reserve of oil and gas was discovered in Pakistan’s territorial waters. This finding came after a three-year geographical survey conducted in collaboration with a friendly country. The identification of these reserves could mark an important milestone for Pakistan’s economy. The discovery was confirmed by a detailed study that mapped the exact location of the deposits. The reserves found are considered substantial and have the potential to transform Pakistan’s economy, which currently faces significant financial challenges. The exploitation of these reserves could provide a new source of revenue and reduce the country’s dependence on energy imports. Energy sector experts highlight that, although the discovery is promising, it is still in the early stages of exploration. Considerable investments in infrastructure and technology will be needed to efficiently extract and process the oil and gas. Additionally, the sustainable management of these resources will be crucial to ensure that the economic benefits are long-lasting. The Pakistani government has already been informed about the discovery and is taking steps to initiate exploration activities. The expectation is that, over time, these reserves could significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth, creating jobs and boosting industrial development.

A Letter To Donnie Trump

Dear Donnie,

Admittedly,  I am an independent opposed to your presidency for a very simple reason-you lack character, integrity, empathy, compassion and knowledge to be president of this already great nation.

My own background emanates from an Iowa farm which taught me responsibility at an early age.  Our lives were dependent on the soil, cream from milk our cows produced and forage to feed them.  I, along with others, was instilled with community spirit, respect for elders and others, truthfulness, a hard work ethic and enduring farm life hardships.

You, on the other hand, were a Fortunate Son given much of what money could buy except a basic connection to humanity, socialization, and knowledge. Predator capitalism lessons forged by your father were learned at an early age and you rebelled to the point of being cast way to a military academy for being incorrigible by your parents. It's not too difficult to assume the absence of family and love during those years coupled with hostility fomented a desire to deter military tenets of honor, duty, accountability and dedication to nation. Your brashness, self-centeredness, fear of germs, malignant narcissism, pathological equivocation and overall spite towards the poor, people of color, business partners, Veterans, women and many others are easily understood. After all, it is always someone else's fault and not yours.

You had no desire to be subjected to the Selective Service military draft receiving five exemptions with the last medically disqualifying you for heel bone spurs. Ironically, you participated in athletics at the military academy for many years and successfully passed your Selective Service physical on December 15, 1966.  Four 2-S school deferments, 2 1-A meaning eligibility for induction and finally 1-Y, not eligible for service unless a state of emergency or war is declared.  Looking this over brings a simple question of why you weren't drafted after receiving a 1-A ruling on July 7, 1968 and holding it for three months. 1968 was the height of the Vietnam War and draftees and enlistees were being accepted regardless except for the most afflicted. Of course, you immediately showed up for another physical on September 9, 1968, with a paid M.D. letter attesting to your heel bone spurs with a bit of affluenza thrown in undoubtedly. Now the truth came out of a deal your father made with a podiatrist, whom happened to rent from him, for a bone spur letter. If your name had been Smith, Washington or Gonzales, you would been on a flight to basic training, but not Trump.  Still, it doesn't answer the question of why you weren't inducted during the three months of 1-A eligibility. You had already decided the military was not for you probably due to your castaway military academy days, absent parents, a lot of cowardice due to Vietnam fear, being a germaphobe, no desire to be around minorities and perhaps a little of Leona Helmsley attitude whereas laws are meant for the little people.

The Donald stated repeatedly in interviews in the past these bone spurs were TEMPORARY and NOT PAINFUL. You cloud the issue with misstatements and historical ignorance of your own draft history. You resort to the old "look up my records" reply to any draft queries or ignore altogether. The real reasons, in my opinion, were twofold.  First, you were afraid of the real military, being treated like everyone else and possible Vietnam service. This type of fear carries to the present day indicative by your anger over criticisms, immediate shoot from the hip caustic responses, bullying, and proclivity towards tough-guy statements exhorting others to attack those who protest against you or are the wrong ethnicity or religion. All of this while you are safely protected by security while never admitting the exclusion of minorities or violence was wrong.

Secondly, Donald, you are simply not a team player. Fortunate Son upbringing and being rejected by your parents in favor of a military academy transformed you into a loner needing constant reinforcement of status, admiration, and self-worth. You never developed adequate social skills relying instead on names on glimmering towers, manufactured adoring fans, accouterments of wealth, constant media appearances, etc., which attest to your singular narcissistic status. This malignant narcissism precludes any team concept and subsequently being deemed a leader. Your inner fear culminates in disparaging the handicapped, denying health insurance to your own niece, abject coldness, lack of empathy and much more. The campaign trail has shown you to utter caustic speech, insecurity, self-absorption, bullying, racism, misogyny, sexism, etc., which are not signs of a leader, but a plea for help.

Your incessant desire to be deemed a "tough guy" is not accorded a great deal of credibility since you're not.  Donnie, you surround yourself with convicted felons, extremists and other miscreants which denies rather than create a tough aura. Rather, it gives an image of someone who doesn't respect authority or the laws behind it-perhaps another adolescent creation. Your childlike protest of "I didn't know" or the "evil media" after staff or delegate less than saintly status is revealed only heightens this disregard and contradicts your self-proclaimed "smart guy" declaration.  Here are a few just to remind you:

     a.  Joseph Weichselbaum, personal helicopter pilot.  Twice convicted felon for drug distribution, tax evasion, grand theft auto and embezzlement. You wrote a letter to the court in November, 1987, prior to drug trafficking and tax evasion sentencing vouching for him being "conscientious, forthright and diligent...a credit to the community."

     b.  John Staluppi-friend and Colombo crime family member. You worked closely with him to create the Donald Trump Signature Series Cadillac debuted in 1988.

   c.  Katrina Pierson, national spokesperson-convicted of shoplifting in 1997 and accepted state unemployment insurance benefits, $11,000 (11 months worth) in 2012 while working on the Ted Cruz campaign. Texas law requires a recipient to be looking for full time paid employment, but Pierson apparently discarded that. She was working for Cruz, traveling the nation shilling the "evil" UN Agenda 21 theory and simultaneously planning a political career running against Rep. Pete Sessions. Obvious questions are was she paid by the Cruz campaign for this and where did the traveling money come from? Oh, she lost the election by 70%.  She is notorious for time traveling, that is, blaming Obama for the 2004 death of Capt. Khan, son of a Gold Star Family who you, Donnie, disparaged for being Muslim. You didn't rebuke her for making this statement, Katrina is still employed somewhat and you are being blamed.

     d.  Mike and Irene Millin, joined with Trump for the Trump Institute which Trump University was umbrella organization and other "educational oferings."  Milins had a troubled past with their National Grants Conference which was investigated by thirty-two state attorney-general for fraud, scamming and deceptive business practices. The television program Life Styles of the Rich and Famous sued both for failure to fulfill contractual requirements.  Their National Grants Conference finally went bankrupt in 2006 owing $2.1 million to creditors following intense attorney-generals' pressure. This didn't bother Trump vetting as he deemed them an asset to his Institute and according to a 2006 report, the National Grants Conference and Trump Institute shared at least three of the same owners and a joint Boca Raton, Florida, address.

     e.  Trump and the Millins together focused on Trump University, but the endeavor was receiving criticism for not being an accredited university or college. Trump directed a name change to Trump Entrepreneur Initiative following these claims, but actions were too little, too late.  The Initiative closed down in 2006, but faced continuing legal scrutiny by the New York Attorney General who began an intensive investigation in 2011 for false claims and illegal business practices. This eventually led into a major 2013 class action lawsuit settled later for $25 million. However, a small group of litigants didn't accept the meager settlement and are pursuing further court action.

       f.  Felix Sater-convicted felon with alleged organized crime connection worked closely with Trump on several deals. He had been convicted of money laundering in 1990s; later went to prison for plunging wine glass stem into a commodity broker's face; and avoided prison a second time for massive $40 million stock fraud and swindle, but was charged as an unindicted co-conspirator in 2000. and later found guilty of stock fraud in 2009. Trump partnered with the Sater Bayrock Group, a small development firm, with headquarters in Trump Tower in 2005.  He worked with Donald/Ivanka on the legally troubled Soho project; Trump International Hotel and Tower, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, which failed with $100,000 in customer deposits lost; the canceled Trump Las Olas, Florida, project; and unsuccessful ventures in Colorado and Arizona.  Sater now is a person of considerable interest to the Mueller investigation.

      g.  Your Cabinet-new scandals seem to pop up daily.  Misuse of government funds, travel, policy revisions detrimental to the public, etc., all seem to indicate your lack of concern, inability to supervise or a reflection of yourself.

There are many more examples one could cite, but the most tragic is your inhumane action towards Puerto Rico and separating children from families along the border.  You refused to renew the Jones Act waiver to allow all ships to offload needed supplies to the island.  The Jones Act prohibits foreign ships from docking unless waived and you simply created a more disastrous situation sing to renew the waiver.  Your excuse of aid damaging your budget was abominable and indicative of a challenged mind. Again, you lack human compassion, empathy and heartlessness only exacerbated an already tragic situation resulting in 4666 deaths to date.  Obviously, there is a racist tint here exhibited in your campaign and presidency, but now even against US citizens in Puerto Rico.

I won't dwell on the child separation issue except to mention your own failure as a parent is at center-your children and son-in-law under criminal investigation. All reflecting your belief to be above the law and skirt, if not break, when necessary.  The outrage wave must have stunned you and condemnations for seeking funds for your border wall to free children was sickening.  It was Trump policy created months ago, not law, though you attempted to blame Democrats for the action. Again, vacating any notion of taking responsibility for your actions. Painting children as MS-13 members was reminiscent of earlier racist comments made during the campaign.

Well, Donnie, you are in a fix!! My recommendation is to resign and take Pence with you since he is religiously obsessed.  Both of you need psychiatric treatment and a long trip to Moscow for future residence!

Battery Reconditioning at Home

These days we are all looking for ways to save money and even to help the environment. If you came across this site you are most likely such a person and you already know how refurbishing old batteries can contribute to meeting these goals.

Battery reconditioning at home is the act of reviving batteries that seem to be out of juice. After you learn how to do this you can save a lot of money. You can also even make money doing this for others. There are one or two different methods depending on the type of battery. The cost to recondition are very low and the effort is minimal.

How To Recondition Batteries

recycled batteries

In doing some research on how to recondition batteries at home, I came across this guide: “How to Recondition Old Batteries and Save $$$” by Craig Orell. Note, this is only a review, if you are looking for his website

This complete guide provides an excellent value showing you how to recondition old batteries at home and bring them back to full working condition. This is great for car batteries, laptop batteries, the D batteries required for your old boom box … basically any kind with any volts. The guide covers the following concepts regarding fixing batteries, in detail:
  • refurbishing techniques for
  • general batteries
  • laptops
  • nicad batteries
  • lead acid batteries
  • deep cycling batteries
Reviewers comment on how they were about to throw out their old car battery and spend hundreds on buying a new one, but they found this guide and were a able to restore these batteries at little to no cost.

The best value in this guide is where it shows you where and how to buy old dead batteries and turn them into reconditioned batteries to make extra money.

At first I thought that this guide might be overpriced, $129.00, however it has recently been placed on a limited time offer to sell for $49.97. They also offer a money back guarantee, so there really is no risk in trying the guide to see if you can recondition batteries on your own. I have personally returned many products through the tool that this site uses to process their orders and returns and the process is extremely hassle free.

The editors also promise lifetime updates to anyone who purchases the guide, so if the guide is ever updated with new techniques or information, you will be notified.
To conclude, if you are looking for a way to save money by rejuvenating old batteries or if you want to start a business to make extra cash, this guide can show you how to do either or both. The guide shows everything you need to know including tools and supplies plus the procedure it takes to bring old batteries back to life.

Easy Methods to Extend Battery Life Information on refurbishing batteries at home.
Any battery used for an extended period will fail , however users often encounter the difficulty of untimely battery failure. This situation can be easily avoided if you follow some simple tips.
Most people think that if they power down their devices, battery life will be extended . Unfortunately, this often results in the opposite outcome . Devices consume more power when they are starting, so turning the device off is not always the best way to preserve the battery.
Follow the recommendations below for improved battery life:
  • Cars, Trucks, Boats, Etc
  • MP3 Players, PDAs, Laptops, Etc
For any battery, the most important factor to consider is the temperature . Ensuring that the battery is not exposed to high heat can extend the life. High temperatures lead to faster chemical reactions. In addition to the temperatures, a reduction in the number of discharge/charge cycles drastically helps battery service life.

Vehicles

The best way to extend the life of a car battery is to keep the battery charged at all times. It is also essential to protect the car battery from high under the hood temperatures . A proper case or heat shield can protect the battery. It is a good idea to check the electrolyte levels in the car battery on a regular basis during hot months.

A rising trend seems to be for car manufacturers to relocate the battery to be stored in the passenger compartment or in the trunk as a way of not storing it in the engine compartment to enhance the life. Obviously the battery stays much cooler if it is not stored in the engine. This strategy improves battery life as well.

Electronic Device

Battery life can be increased for cell phones, laptops, PDAs, mp3 players etc. by turning down the brightness when it is not needed. For example, when using these devices in a dark room, it is not necessary to set the brightness to 100%. The brightness can be lowered enough so that the screen can be seen without exerting any strain on the eyes can be done. The amount of time the backlight stays on can also be decreased. For iPods it doesn’t have to stay on for
