Newly launched C-V2X service demonstrated at ETSI Plugtests event

Today at the 3^rd ETSI C‑V2X PLUGTESTS^TM interoperability event, held in partnership with 5GAA and hosted by DEKRA, Vodafone has demonstrated a new C-V2X platform designed to connect road users directly with transport authorities, enabling safety information, hazard warnings and traffic updates to be shared with users in real-time. Announced yesterday, the new C-V2X platform is based on ETSI TC ITS and 3GPP mobile communication standards. Vodafone plans to launch the platform within its own Vodafone Automotive apps later this year.

ETSI’s world-first standard to secure consumer IoT devices is extended to Home Gateways

The 2nd FRMCS Plugtests^TM event, organized remotely by ETSI with the support of the European Commission, EFTA, TCCA and UIC from 16 to 20 May 2022, has concluded with a success rate of 95% of the executed tests.

ETSI Plugtests events are essential to ensure seamless access to mission critical services across different vendors’ products and implementations. The MCX ETSI Plugtests series is the first independent testing of public safety and other mission critical LTE services. The MCX services are the basis for the Future Rail Mobile Communications System (FRMCS), and tests are based on the MCX (collectively for MCPTT, MCVideo and MCData services) framework.

New ETSI White Paper and MEC Hackathon: another step to engage with app developers and verticals

ETSI releases new specification on Quality of Service for F5G

The ETSI's 5^th-Generation Fixed Network group (F5G ISG) has released a new specification, ETSI GS F5G 005 on “High-Quality Service Experience Factors”. This specification studies the end-to-end Quality of Experience (QoE) factors for services over the broadband network. High QoE reflects the overall performance of services from the end user's perspective. It also analyses the general factors that impact service performance and identifies the overall high-QoE dimensions for each service, mainly using Virtual Reality (VR) as a benchmark for F5G applications.

ETSI releases first O-RAN specification

ETSI and O-RAN are pleased to announce that ETSI has adopted the first O-RAN specification as ETSI TS 103 859, namely ‘O-RAN Fronthaul Control, User and Synchronization Plane Specification v7.02’. The document focuses on Open Fronthaul, one of the interfaces in the O-RAN Architecture for open and intelligent Radio Access Networks. It specifies the control plane, user plane and synchronization plane protocols used over the fronthaul interface linking the O-DU (O-RAN Distributed Unit) and the O-RU (O-RAN Radio Unit) for the lower layer functional splits. The scope of TS 103 859 includes both LTE and NR (5G).

New specifications released by ETSI will enable multiple subscriptions and identities to exist in the same smartphone handset without needing several SIM cards to be within the device.

The mobile telecom industry has been facing an increasing demand for applications running on mobile devices like banking, payments, transport and identity for some time. These new specifications address this demand by adding the possibility to host and address several "virtual secure elements" into the same UICC. This allows multiple virtual secure elements to coexist logically separated, whilst having the ability to be addressed independently through the same physical interface.

This pioneering document addresses the increasingly important issue of safeguarding individuals from coercive control through the misuse of consumer Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Coercive control encompasses a range of abusive acts such as security breaches, privacy invasions, harassment, physical assault, and other patterns of behaviour that can limit autonomy or cause emotional harm to potential targets.

They are addressing key elements in this initial phase of the pre-standardization works for THz communications: the use-cases and the spectrum. This year’s first ETSI Conference on Non-Terrestrial Networks has stressed the importance of technical standardization in delivering a fully connected planet via NTN, a key element of tomorrow’s global 6G networks.

Held from 3-4 April 2024 at ETSI’s Sophia Antipolis headquarters, the event was co-organized with the European Space Agency (ESA), the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) and the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU).

Titled ‘Non-Terrestrial Networks, a Native Component of 6G’, the 2-day conference attracted over 200 participants from 25 countries, including experts in standardization and research as well as industrial representation from the mobile, satellite and wider space industries. Delegates shared perspectives on NTN use cases, candidate technology solutions, current research status and standardization roadmaps. Day one sessions focused on the opportunities and challenges of integrating terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks within tomorrow’s global communications landscape. The second day afforded a deep dive into numerous cutting-edge NTN and 6G research & development initiatives in Europe and around the world.

The ETSI TeraFlowSDN community is proud to announce the third release of TeraFlowSDN, an innovative and robust SDN orchestrator and controller, delivering a fully featured Network Automation Platform. In this latest release, TeraFlowSDN enhances its capabilities with the integration of an Optical SDN controller, expanding device support to include gNMI and OpenConfig protocols. It also features enriched network integrations for end-to-end orchestration like IP over DWDM, L3VPN, MEC, and network topology exposure. The management of network topologies is improved with the addition of a new BGP-LS speaker able to discover the topologies, and a new Forecaster component is introduced, providing predictive insights for network management. The ETSI Open Source MANO community is proud to announce OSM Release SIXTEEN, a Long-Term-Support (LTS) release of ETSI OSM, which becomes the most innovative and feature-packed release shipped by OSM to date.

This release brings a revolution in OSM’s functionality, positioning OSM as a generalized cloud-native orchestrator for infrastructure, platforms and services, which extends significantly its former scope. Full cloud-native management of Kubernetes clusters in public clouds, together with the applications or software units running on them, is now possible with Release SIXTEEN. Every operation related to the cluster management (creation, upgrading, scaling, deletion) or the applications running on them is reflected in Git repositories, following the GitOps model. This has been possible thanks to a major change in the internal architecture of OSM.
