ETSI releases new specification on Quality of Service for F5G

The ETSI's 5^th-Generation Fixed Network group (F5G ISG) has released a new specification, ETSI GS F5G 005 on “High-Quality Service Experience Factors”. This specification studies the end-to-end Quality of Experience (QoE) factors for services over the broadband network. High QoE reflects the overall performance of services from the end user's perspective. It also analyses the general factors that impact service performance and identifies the overall high-QoE dimensions for each service, mainly using Virtual Reality (VR) as a benchmark for F5G applications.

ETSI workshop: improving Quality of Emerging Services for Speech and Audio

The ETSI STQ (Speech and multimedia Transmission Quality) Workshop that took place on 21-22 November 2022 in Bratislava (Slovakia) was hosted by Amazon. It focused on a user-centred perspective of the Quality of Emerging Services for Speech and Audio.

The event was attended by organizations providing a rich mix of inputs and perspectives from industry, regulators, and academia. Through presentations, discussions and professional networking, this STQ Workshop demonstrated a very high level of engagement by all participants, with stimulating interaction among all speakers and the audience.

New ETSI Telemetry Standard Improves Automation for better End-User Quality of Experience

By what has been shown in previous talks, we have seen that we can show coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of a realizable matroid can be realized via specific computations in the Chow ring of its wonderful compactification. In this talk, we will introduce the notion of Poincare duality algebras, which are graded algebras with a degree function giving an isomorphism from the top degree to the base field that induces a non-degenerate pairing between complementary degrees of the algebra. Furthermore, we will introduce a notion of hard Lefschetz and Hodge-Riemann relations for such algebras. When a Poincare duality algebra satisfies a certain version of these properties, we can show that the log-concavity of its "volume polynomial" is equivalent to the eigenvalues of a symmetric form on the algebra arising from the Hodge-Riemann relations. Because the Hodge-Riemann relations in appropriate degree imply the log-concavity of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of the matroid, this framework gives us a program to establish the log-concavity result. Throughout this talk, I will attempt to provide intuition from the case of the Chow rings of smooth projective varieties.

Once upon a time, every business was a small business. It was run by the owner, maybe the spouse and the kids. Maybe they borrowed money from friends and relatives, but there was only so big it could get. Then came what can only be described as the big bang of economics. Over the span of a few decades, people figured out a way for businesses to sell ownership shares – otherwise known as stocks – and let people trade those shares. There was suddenly money to buy machines and expand.

Today, we head to the Netherlands around the year 1600. First, we'll visit the bridge in Amsterdam where some of the first stock trading took place. Then we track down the Dutch water company that's the source of the oldest "living" bond. It's the origin of stocks and bonds and the stock market and it leads directly to many of the financial innovations that we still have today.
