jon Jonas Bader - Around the world trip - Interview By www.kunstform.org Published On :: 2015-11-17 09:13:42 Jonas Bader - Around the world trip - Interview Jonas Bader decided last year to do a trip with his bike around the world and visited countries like Mexiko, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Bali, Tahiti, Portugal, New Caledonia and Spain. Now he is back in Berlin and brought us some fotos and words which we would like to share! Yo Jonas, you just came back from a huge around the world trip. How did the idea of this trip came up to you? I was looking forward to do a longer trip like that for quiet a bit, because i didn’t had to much time to travel while i took my studies for my bachelor exams in Stuttgart. For me traveling is an essential part that comes along with bmx. When i was young i already loved all those small trips to the neighboor villages and now im expanding haha. By the way how long have you been traveling in total and wich countries have you been too? In total its been a full year. My Goal was to see all 3 Mekkas of BMX. BARCELONA, CALI and Australia. And because i am going that far i made some stops in between: Portugal, Mexico, Tahiti, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Bali and Singapore. How did you plan our travel destinations? Like i said i had the master plan of going to BCN, CALI and OZ. I had the rough plan of a few other destinations, but most of them occurred spontaneous. I visited my brother in Portugal for example, who was on a Globetrotter trip with 2 Defhleffs together with Kilian and the two aussies Raph and Jerry. BEST TIME ! What role has played BMX for your journey and what expierences you could get from it? BMX was a really important while my travels. I recon after a few months of traveling i would have been to bored without. At some point one is just done with all the tourist attractions. I just got sick of the smallest, biggest, narrowest, most blue, highest whats or ever of the world. Thats when i hopped on my BMX and had the best time of my trip and saw the world with a whole other perspective. Unfortunately those were the most honest and interesting experiences of the cities/countries, just cruising my bike and explore the hood. You have send us also some pics from New Caledonia! How is the BMX szene there? Sadly i didn’t ride my bike to much over there. I saw a few edits and so on of people from there. But during my stay i didn’t get to know someone. Most of the time i was hanging out with a skater / photographer that i met randomly. But the nature in New Caledonia is so astonishing that i was mostly surfing, snorkeling or diving, was a bit like holiday from my holidays haha. Which spots, countries or city you could advise us? I can advice you every single one! I guess its not about wich country you go to, its just about to break habits and go out there and do something different than on a normal day. Get your self in a new adventure and try something new. In the end its up to you if you have a good time, its possible in every country! What are you doin now in Germany? I just started to study again and take my master exams in architecture. Would you like to say something else or do you want to greet someone? First the standard THANK YOU to my parents and friends and all those who made my trip to what it was in any way! AWESOME. And of course a big thanks to you guys for keeping my bike always fresh as hell. Its not obligatory to get a new bike shipped to Australia! RESPECT. And one more thing … Wendel hast a small ….. hahahahaha. Thanks Jonas for your photos and your words Fotos! Peace out Daniel ! Full Article

jon Elder Jonah of Odessa predicted war between Russia and the West By english.pravda.ru Published On :: Mon, 06 May 2024 21:16:00 +0300 The third Easter that the Orthodox world celebrated on May 5, 2024, is believed to be a victorious one for Russia, Elder Jonah of Odessa predicted. Victorious Easter in 2024 Elder Jonah of Odessa, the confessor of the Holy Dormition Monastery, who died in 2012 at the age of 87, warned long before the coup in Kyiv about the war that would erupt between a "small state” and Russia. The war, he predicted, would sow "chaos” in the world and spread "spiritual sprite” around Ukraine: "Ukraine and Russia do not exist separately — there is one Holy Rus'. Our enemies decided to divide us in order to destroy Orthodoxy in Little Rus'. God will not let that happen.” Full Article Society

jon Jazz master Clark Terry gets his due from Quincy Jones in 'Keep On Keepin' On' By www.scpr.org Published On :: Fri, 19 Sep 2014 20:36:19 -0700 The relationship between pianist Justin Kauflin and trumpeter Clark Terry is at the heart of the documentary, "Keep On Keepin' On."; Credit: COURTESY OF RADiUS-TWC Trumpeter Clark Terry played in Count Basie's and Duke Ellington's bands. He was the first African American hired for The Tonight Show band. He mentored the teenage prodigies Miles Davis and Quincy Jones. But Terry isn't as well known as you might think he'd be. Thanks to the new documentary, "Keep On Keepin' On," you can see Clark Terry — or C.T., as everyone calls him — in action. The film tells the story of Terry's early love of the trumpet, his quick rise through the jazz ranks, and how he's devoted much of his life to inspiring other musicians — all with a sparkle in his eye. The movie is directed by first time filmmaker Alan Hicks and made on a shoestring budget. Hicks is himself a drummer and had been one of Terry's students. Originally it was going to be a short film about Terry and Hicks' relationship, funded by the Australian Broadcasting Company. (Hicks is from Australia.) When that financing fell through, Hicks improvised. Determined to tell the world about Terry, he and a childhood buddy, Adam Hart, decided to do it themselves — despite having no filmmaking experience. They bought a camera and plane tickets to the U.S. and began following Terry. For many years their schedule was to shoot until they ran out of funds, usually about three months, work for a few months to save more money, then go back to shooting. To demonstrate how Terry mentors his students, they followed one young man in particular. Justin Kauflin is a blind jazz pianist with stage fright who would spend days and nights practicing at Terry's bedside. Over the course of the film, as we learn about Terry's past, we see the aging trumpeter in the present (he's now 93) — struggling with advanced diabetes, but always composing riffs from his bed late into the night. In one moving scene, Kauflin is riddled with anxiety as he prepares to compete in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz competition. Terry sends him an audio letter and some lucky socks for inspiration. Years into the project, when Quincy Jones came to visit Terry, he met Kauflin and the filmmakers. Eventually Jones signed on as an executive producer of "Keep On Keepin' On" — as is only fitting given that, at age 13, he'd been Terry's first student. Jones, Hicks and Kauflin spoke with The Frame about Terry and his unparalleled talent as a musician and as a mentor. Full Article
jon After Tenure Controversy, Nikole Hannah-Jones Will Join Howard Faculty Instead Of UNC By www.scpr.org Published On :: Tue, 06 Jul 2021 09:00:08 -0700 Author Ta-Nehisi Coates, seen here in 2019, will join the faculty of Howard University.; Credit: Mary Altaffer/AP Laurel Wamsley | NPR Updated July 6, 2021 at 11:31 AM ET Less than a week after trustees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill belatedly voted to grant tenure to New York Times reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones, Howard University announced Hannah-Jones will instead be joining its faculty. Howard, the prestigious historically Black university in Washington, D.C., also announced it is hiring writer and Howard alumnus Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of Between the World and Me. Their positions were funded by nearly $20 million in donations from the Knight Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Ford Foundation, as well as an anonymous donor. The funding establishes the Knight Chair in Race and Journalism, a tenured position to be held by Hannah-Jones. Hannah-Jones, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her 1619 Project, will also establish the Center for Journalism and Democracy, which the university says will train aspiring journalists in "the investigative skills and historical and analytical expertise needed to cover the crisis our democracy is facing." The news is a blow to UNC, which has had its reputation damaged by its handling of Hannah-Jones' appointment to an endowed professorship at its journalism school. For months, trustees declined to consider granting her tenure, a highly unusual move considering her tenure was backed by the relevant academic leaders. Some of the opposition came from Walter Hussman, an Arkansas newspaper publisher and alumnus whose $25 million donation to the UNC's journalism school led to its being named for him. As NPR's David Folkenflik reported, Hussman said "he was given pause by some prominent scholars' criticism that Hannah-Jones distorted the historical record in arguing that the protection of slavery was one of the Founding Fathers' primary motivations in seeking independence from the British." Amid the turmoil, other Black faculty members at UNC said they were considering leaving the university, and students protested on behalf of Hannah-Jones. The university's student body president Lamar Richard penned an open letter last month to the UNC community, saying the university is unprepared for the reckoning that's required, and "[u]ntil this rebirth occurs, Carolina is not deserving of your talents, aspirations, or successes." Hannah-Jones had said she would not accept UNC's offer without tenure, which UNC's Trustees finally approved in a 9-4 vote. But the messy and contentious process spoiled it for her. "Look what it took to get tenure," Hannah-Jones said, noting that every other chair of the position dating to the 1980s had been granted tenure, and that all were white. Hannah-Jones received unanimous approval from the faculty during the tenure process. "And so to be denied it, and to only have that vote occur on the last possible day, at the last possible moment, after threat of legal action, after weeks of protest, after it became a national scandal – it's just not something that I want anymore," she told CBS This Morning. Hannah-Jones said she never wanted her hiring to become a public scandal — she was simply hoping to give back to her beloved alma mater. And instead, she said, it became "embarrassing" to be passed over for tenure. She said she was never told by UNC-Chapel Hill's chancellor, provost or trustees why her tenure was not taken up in November or January. The veteran journalist reportedly had offers from a number of universities after the botched process at UNC. So how did she pick Howard? She said one of her few regrets was not going to Howard as an undergraduate. And she traced her choice to join its faculty to her own story, beginning as a second-grader bused to a white school. "I've spent my entire life proving that I belong in elite white spaces that were not built for Black people," she told CBS. "I decided I didn't want to do that anymore. That Black professionals should feel free, and actually perhaps an obligation, to go to our own institutions and bring our talents and resources to our own institutions and help to build them up as well." She said she won her battle for fair treatment at UNC, "but it's not my job to heal the University of North Carolina. That's the job of the people in power who created this situation in the first place." Hannah-Jones said she's trying to raise even more money for Howard, and that she's eager to join the faculty this summer. "To be able to bring that type of resources to a university that always punches above its weight, I'm so excited," she said. "Something great came out of this." Copyright 2021 NPR.
