Uber lost $2.9 billion in the first quarter as its overseas investments were hammered by the coronavirus pandemic, but the company is looking to its growing food delivery business and aggressive cost-cutting to ease the pain. Tech Xplore reports: The ride-hailing giant said Thursday it is offloading Jump, its bike and scooter business, to Lime, a company in which it is investing $85 million. Jump had been losing about $60 million a quarter. "While our Rides business has been hit hard by the ongoing pandemic, we have taken quick action to preserve the strength of our balance sheet, focus additional resources on Uber Eats, and prepare us for any recovery scenario," said CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in a statement. "Along with the surge in food delivery, we are encouraged by the early signs we are seeing in markets that are beginning to open back up." On Wednesday, San Francisco-based Uber said it was cutting 3,700 full-time workers, or about 14% of its workforce, as people avoiding contagion either stay indoors or try to limit contact with others. Its main U.S. rival Lyft announced last month it would lay off 982 people, or 17% of its workforce because of plummeting demand. Careem, Uber's subsidiary in the Middle East, cut its workforce by 31%. Uber brought in $3.54 billion in revenue in the first quarter, up 14% from the same time last year. Revenue in its Eats meal delivery business grew 53% as customers shuttered at home opted to order in. Gross bookings grew 8% to $15.8 billion, with 54% growth in the food delivery business and a 3% decline in rides, on a constant currency basis. The report adds that rides were down 80% globally during the month of April. "But rides have been increasing for the past three weeks and bookings in large cities across Georgia and Texas, two states that started re-opening, are up 43% and 50% respectively from their lowest points," the report says.

The two parcels which contained ephedrine concealed in them were booked by a lady who was arrested on last Saturday in connection with a seizure of 280 gm of amphetamine.

The said consignments were destined for New Zealand and Zambia. Further investigations are under process to identify the source of the seized drugs.

ReNew Solar Power has bagged 400 MW renewable energy projects at a tariff of Rs 2.90 per unit in an auction, according to an MNRE statement. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a central public sector undertaking, conducted e-reverse auction for the 400 MW renewable energy projects with round-the-clock supply. "India's renewable energy (RE) sector has witnessed history today, as the e-reverse auction (e-RA)for 400 MW RE projects with round-the-clock supply was concluded at an astounding first year tariff of Rs 2.90/kilowatt hour (kWh)," the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said. यह घटना ग्राम छड़ाैदा निवासी भगवतीप्रसाद पिता निर्भयसिंह नागर के साथ हुई। वह गिराेता स्थित जय अंबे पेट्रोल पंप मैनेजर पद पर कार्यरत है। राेज की तरह वह गत दिवस छडोदा से गिरोता पंप के लिए निकला। वहां से दाेपहर एक बजे करीब पंप की सिल्लक के 2.90 लाख रुपए से भरा बैग लेकर चंद्रावतीगंज स्थित यूको बैंक में उक्त राशि जमा कराने को निकला। इसी दौरान पारदाखेड़ा से अजनारा मार्ग के बीच बाइक पर सवार दो बदमाशों ने रास्ता पूछने के बहाने भगवती की गाड़ी रुकवाई। इसी दौरान पीछे बैठे एक बदमाश ने भगवती की आंख में मिर्ची झोंक दी और रुपयों से भरा बैग लेकर फरार हो गए। वह अपनी आंखें साफ करता उससे पहले ही लुटेरे भाग चुके थे। भगवती ने तुरंत घटना की जानकारी भेरूगढ़ थाना उज्जैन को दी। वहां के थाना प्रभारी अपनी टीम के साथ मौके पर पहुंचे और छानबीन में जुटे। रात तक सीएसपी अश्विनी नेगी व अन्य पुलिस अधिकारी भी मौके उपस्थित थे। उन्हाेंने माैके पर पूरी घटना के बारे में जानकारी ली। लॉकडाउन में दिनदहाड़े इतनी बड़ी लूट का यह पहला मामला है। घटना के बाद आसपास के थानों को भी अलर्ट कर दिया गया है।

यह रेनो की बेस्ट सेलिंग कार में से एक है। यह 54 हॉर्स पावर वाले 0.8 लीटर और 68 हॉर्स पावर वाले 1.0 लीटर इंजन से लैस है। 1.0 लीटर पेट्रोल ऑटोमैटिक में 22.5kmpl माइलेज मिलता है जबकि 0.8 लीटर वाले मॉडल में 22.3kmpl का माइलेज मिलता है। जबकि 1.0 लीटर 5 स्पीड मैनुअल मॉडल में 21.7kmpl का माइलेज मिलता है। इसकी कीमत 2.92 लाख रुपए से 5.01 लाख रुपए तक है।

यह कंपनी का सबसे छोटा मॉडल है। इसमें 48 हार्स पावर वाला 0.8 लीटर का पेट्रोल इंजन है, जिसमें 22.05kmpl का माइलेज मिलता है। इसकी कीमत 2.95 लाख रुपए से 3.90 लाख रुपए तक है। इसके सीएनजी वैरिएंट की कीमत 4.33 लाख रुपए से 4.36 लाख रुपए तक है। इसमें एक किलो गैस में 31.59 किलोमीटर तक चलती है।

मारुति सुजुकी वैगनआर, माइलेज: 21.79kmpl

यह कंपनी की बेस्ट सेलिंग हैचबैक है। यह 68 हॉर्स पावर वाले 1.0 लीटर इंजन के साथ 83 हॉर्स पावर वाले 1.2 लीटर इंजन ऑप्शन में अवेलेबल है। 1.0 लीटर इंजन में 21.79kmpl का माइलेज मिलता है जबकि 1.2 लीटर में 20.52kmpl का माइलेज मिलता है। दोनों में मैनुअल के साथ 5 स्पीड ऑटोमैटिक ट्रांसमिशन भी अवेलेबल है। इसकी कीमत 4.45 लाख रुपए से 5.95 लाख रुपए तक है।
