three Crystal structures of three 6-aryl-2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazoles By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-01-01 Three title compounds, namely, 2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]-6-phenylimidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole, C26H19ClN4S, (I), 2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-6-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole, C26H18ClFN4S, (II), and 6-(4-bromophenyl)-2-(4-chlorobenzyl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)methyl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole, C26H18BrClN4S, (III), have been prepared using a reductive condensation of indole with the corresponding 6-aryl-2-(4-chlorobenzyl)imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thiadiazole-5-carbaldehydes (aryl = phenyl, 4-fluorophenyl or 4-bromophenyl), and their crystal structures have been determined. The asymmetric unit of compound (I) consists of two independent molecules and one of the molecules exhibits disorder of the 4-chlorobenzyl substituent with occupancies 0.6289 (17) and 0.3711 (17). Each type of molecule forms a C(8) chain motif built from N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, which for the fully ordered molecule is reinforced by C—H⋯π interactions. In compound (II), the chlorobenzyl unit is again disordered, with occupancies 0.822 (6) and 0.178 (6), and the molecules form C(8) chains similar to those in (I), reinforced by C—H⋯π interactions involving only the major disorder component. The chlorobenzyl unit in compound (III) is also disordered with occupancies of 0.839 (5) and 0.161 (5). The molecules are linked by a combination of one N—H⋯N hydrogen bond and four C—H⋯π interactions, forming a three-dimensional framework. Full Article text
three Syntheses and crystal structures of three [M(acac)2(TMEDA)] complexes (M = Mn, Fe and Zn) By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-01-01 The complexes bis(acetylacetonato-κ2O,O')(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine-κ2N,N')manganese(II), [Mn(C5H7O2)2(C6H16N2)], bis(acetylacetonato-κ2O,O')(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine-κ2N,N')iron(II), [Fe(C5H7O2)2(C6H16N2)], and bis(acetylacetonato-κ2O,O')(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine-κ2N,N')zinc(II), [Zn(C5H7O2)2(C6H16N2)], were synthesized from the reaction of the corresponding metal acetylacetonates [M(acac)2(H2O)2] with N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) in toluene. Each of the complexes displays a central metal atom which is nearly octahedrally surrounded by two chelating acac and one chelating TMEDA ligand, resulting in an N2O4 coordination set. Despite the chemical similarity of the complex units, the packing patterns for compounds 1–3 are different and thus the crystal structures are not isotypic. Full Article text
three [Se(CH2C(O)CH3)3][B12F11NH3]: The first selenium cation with three β-ketone substituents By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-01-17 The reaction of [Se8][B12F11NH3]2 with acetone and subsequent crystallization from acetone/diethyl ether yielded the selenium cation [Se(CH2C(O)CH3)3]+ as a by-product, which is stabilized by the weakly coordinating undecafluorinated anion [B12F11NH3]−. While attempting to crystallize pure [Se8][B12F11NH3]2, the structure of the isolated product, namely, tris(2-oxopropyl)selenium 1-ammonioundecafluorododecaborate, was surprising. The cation [Se(CH2C(O)CH3)3]+ represents the first example for a cationic selenium compound with three ketone functional groups located in the β-position with respect to the selenium atom. The cation possesses almost trigonal–pyramidal C3 symmetry and forms hydrogen bonds to the ammonio group of the anion. Full Article text
three Conversion of diarylchalcones into 4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-carbothioamides: molecular and supramolecular structures of two precursors and three products By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-02-14 Chalcones of type 4-XC6H4C(O)CH=CHC6H4(OCH2CCH)-4, where X = Cl, Br or MeO, have been converted to the corresponding 4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-carbothioamides using a cyclocondensation reaction with thiosemicarbazide. The chalcones 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-one, C18H13ClO2, (I), and 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-one, C18H13BrO2, (II), are isomorphous, and their molecules are linked into sheets by two independent C—H⋯π(arene) interactions, both involving the same aryl ring with one C—H donor approaching each face. In each of the products (RS)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-carbothioamide, C19H16ClN3OS, (IV), (RS)-3-(4-bromophenyl)-5-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-carbothioamide, C19H16BrN3OS, (V), and (RS)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-4,5-dihydropyrazole-1-carbothioamide, C20H19N3O2S, (VI), the reduced pyrazole ring adopts an envelope conformation with the C atom bearing the 4-prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl substituent, which occupies the axial site, displaced from the plane of the four ring atoms. Compounds (IV) and (V) are isomorphous and their molecules are linked into chains of edge-fused rings by a combination of N—H⋯S and C—H⋯S hydrogen bonds. The molecules of (VI) are linked into sheets by a combination of N—H⋯S, N—H⋯N and C—H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds. Full Article text
three Crystal structures of the recreational drug N-(4-methoxyphenyl)piperazine (MeOPP) and three of its salts By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-03-05 Crystal structures are reported for N-(4-methoxyphenyl)piperazine (MeOPP), (I), and for its 3,5-dinitrobenzoate, 2,4,6-trinitrophenolate (picrate) and 4-aminobenzoate salts, (II)–(IV), the last of which crystallizes as a monohydrate. In MeOPP, C11H16N2O, (I), the 4-methoxyphenyl group is nearly planar and it occupies an equatorial site on the piperazine ring: the molecules are linked into simple C(10) chains by N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In each of the salts, i.e., C11H17N2O+·C7H3N2O6−, (II), C11H17N2O+·C6H2N3O7−, (III), and C11H17N2O+·C7H6NO2−·H2O, (IV), the effectively planar 4-methoxyphenyl substituent again occupies an equatorial site on the piperazine ring. In (II), two of the nitro groups are disordered over two sets of atomic sites and the bond distances in the anion indicate considerable delocalization of the negative charge over the C atoms of the ring. The ions in (II) are linked by two N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a cyclic, centrosymmetric four-ion aggregate; those in (III) are linked by a combination of N—H⋯O and C—H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form sheets; and the components of (IV) are linked by N—H⋯O, O—H⋯O and C—H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional framework structure. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds. Full Article text
three Different packing motifs in the crystal structures of three molecular salts containing the 2-amino-5-carboxyanilinium cation: C7H9N2O2+·Cl−, C7H9N2O2+·Br− and C7H9N2O2+·NO3−·H2O By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-03-13 The syntheses and crystal structures of three molecular salts of protonated 3,4-diaminobenzoic acid, viz. 2-amino-5-carboxyanilinium chloride, C7H9N2O2+·Cl−, (I), 2-amino-5-carboxyanilinium bromide, C7H9N2O2+·Br−, (II), and 2-amino-5-carboxyanilinium nitrate monohydrate, C7H9N2O2+·NO3−·H2O, (III), are described. The cation is protonated at the meta-N atom (with respect to the carboxy group) in each case. In the crystal of (I), carboxylic acid inversion dimers linked by pairwise O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are seen and each N—H group forms a hydrogen bond to a chloride ion to result in (100) undulating layers of chloride ions bridged by the inversion dimers into a three-dimensional network. The extended structure of (II) features O—H⋯Br, N—H⋯Br and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds: the last of these generates C(7) chains of cations. Overall, the packing in (II) features undulating (100) sheets of bromide ions alternating with the organic cations. Intermolecular interactions in the crystal of (III) include O—H⋯O, O—H⋯(O,O), N—H⋯O, N—H⋯N and O—H⋯N links. The cations are linked into (001) sheets, and the nitrate ions and water molecules form undulating chains. Taken together, alternating (001) slabs of organic cations plus anions/water molecules result. Hirshfeld surfaces and fingerprint plots were generated to give further insight into the intermolecular interactions in these structures. The crystal used for the data collection of (II) was twinned by rotation about [100] in reciprocal space in a 0.4896 (15):0.5104 (15) ratio. Full Article text
three Structures of three ependymin-related proteins suggest their function as a hydrophobic molecule binder By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2019-06-20 Ependymin was first discovered as a predominant protein in brain extracellular fluid in fish and was suggested to be involved in functions mostly related to learning and memory. Orthologous proteins to ependymin called ependymin-related proteins (EPDRs) have been found to exist in various tissues from sea urchins to humans, yet their functional role remains to be revealed. In this study, the structures of EPDR1 from frog, mouse and human were determined and analyzed. All of the EPDR1s fold into a dimer using a monomeric subunit that is mostly made up of two stacking antiparallel β-sheets with a curvature on one side, resulting in the formation of a deep hydrophobic pocket. All six of the cysteine residues in the monomeric subunit participate in the formation of three intramolecular disulfide bonds. Other interesting features of EPDR1 include two asparagine residues with glycosylation and a Ca2+-binding site. The EPDR1 fold is very similar to the folds of bacterial VioE and LolA/LolB, which also use a similar hydrophobic pocket for their respective functions as a hydrophobic substrate-binding enzyme and a lipoprotein carrier, respectively. A further fatty-acid binding assay using EPDR1 suggests that it indeed binds to fatty acids, presumably via this pocket. Additional interactome analysis of EPDR1 showed that EPDR1 interacts with insulin-like growth factor 2 receptor and flotillin proteins, which are known to be involved in protein and vesicle translocation. three Three differently coloured polymorphs of 3,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-2,5-dipropyl-2,5-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2019-05-23 In this paper, the conformational polymorphism of a chlorinated diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) dye having flexible substituents in a non-hydrogen-bonding system is reported. The propyl-substituted DPP derivative (PR3C) has three polymorphic forms, each showing a different colour (red, orange and yellow). All polymorphs could be obtained concomitantly under various crystallization conditions. The results of the crystal structure analysis indicate that PR3C adopts different conformations in each polymorph. The packing effect caused by the difference in the arrangement of neighbouring molecules was found to play an important role in the occurrence of the observed polymorphism. The thermodynamic stability relationship between the three polymorphs was identified by thermal analysis and indicates that the yellow polymorph is the thermally stable form. The results indicate that the yellow form and orange form are enantiotropically related, and the other polymorph is monotropically related to the others. Full Article text
three Quantitative three-dimensional nondestructive imaging of whole anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing bacteria By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-17 Anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) bacteria play a key role in the global nitrogen cycle and in nitrogenous wastewater treatment. The anammox bacteria ultrastructure is unique and distinctly different from that of other prokaryotic cells. The morphological structure of an organism is related to its function; however, research on the ultrastructure of intact anammox bacteria is lacking. In this study, in situ three-dimensional nondestructive ultrastructure imaging of a whole anammox cell was performed using synchrotron soft X-ray tomography (SXT) and the total variation-based simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (TV-SART). Statistical and quantitative analyses of the intact anammox bacteria were performed. High soft X-ray absorption composition inside anammoxosome was detected and verified to be relevant to iron-binding protein. On this basis, the shape adaptation of the anammox bacteria response to iron was explored. Full Article text

three Converting three-space matrices to equivalent six-space matrices for Delone scalars in S6 By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-01-01 The transformations from the primitive cells of the centered Bravais lattices to the corresponding centered cells have conventionally been listed as three-by-three matrices that transform three-space lattice vectors. Using those three-by-three matrices when working in the six-dimensional space of lattices represented as Selling scalars as used in Delone (Delaunay) reduction, one could transform to the three-space representation, apply the three-by-three matrices and then back-transform to the six-space representation, but it is much simpler to have the equivalent six-by-six matrices and apply them directly. The general form of the transformation from the three-space matrix to the corresponding matrix operating on Selling scalars (expressed in space S6) is derived, and the particular S6matrices for the centered Delone types are listed. three Three new acid M+ arsenates and phosphates with multiply protonated As/PO4 groups By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2019-07-25 The crystal structures of caesium dihydrogen arsenate(V) bis[trihydrogen arsenate(V)], Cs(H2AsO4)(H3AsO4)2, ammonium dihydrogen arsenate(V) trihydrogen arsenate(V), NH4(H2AsO4)(H3AsO4), and dilithium bis(dihydrogen phosphate), Li2(H2PO4)2, were solved from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. NH4(H2AsO4)(H3AsO4), which was hydrothermally synthesized (T = 493 K), is homeotypic with Rb(H2AsO4)(H3AsO4), while Cs(H2AsO4)(H3AsO4)2 crystallizes in a novel structure type and Li2(H2PO4)2 represents a new polymorph of this composition. The Cs and Li compounds grew at room temperature from highly acidic aqueous solutions. Li2(H2PO4)2 forms a three-dimensional (3D) framework of PO4 tetrahedra sharing corners with Li2O6 dimers built of edge-sharing LiO4 groups, which is reinforced by hydrogen bonds. The two arsenate compounds are characterized by a 3D network of AsO4 groups that are connected solely via multiple strong hydrogen bonds. A statistical evaluation of the As—O bond lengths in singly, doubly and triply protonated AsO4 groups gave average values of 1.70 (2) Å for 199 As—OH bonds, 1.728 (19) Å for As—OH bonds in HAsO4 groups, 1.714 (12) Å for As—OH bonds in H2AsO4 groups and 1.694 (16) Å for As—OH bonds in H3AsO4 groups, and a grand mean value of 1.667 (18) Å for As—O bonds to nonprotonated O atoms. three Synthesis, decomposition studies and crystal structure of a three-dimensional CuCN network structure with protonated N-methylethanolamine as the guest cation By scripts.iucr.org Published On :: 2020-04-17 The compound poly[2-hydroxy-N-methylethan-1-aminium [μ3-cyanido-κ3C:C:N-di-μ-cyanido-κ4C:N-dicuprate(I)]], {(C3H10NO)[Cu2(CN)3]}n or [meoenH]Cu2(CN)3, crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P43. The structure consists of a three-dimensional (3D) anionic CuICN network with noncoordinated protonated N-methylethanolamine cations providing charge neutrality. Pairs of cuprophilic Cu atoms are bridged by the C atoms of μ3-cyanide ligands, which link these units into a 43 spiral along the c axis. The spirals are linked together into a 3D anionic network by the two other cyanide groups. The cationic moieties are linked into their own 43 spiral via N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and the cations interact with the 3D network via an unusual pair of N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds to one of the μ2-cyanide groups. Thermogravimetric analysis indicates an initial loss of the base cation and one cyanide as HCN at temperatures in the range 130–250 °C to form CuCN. We show how loss of a specific cyanide group from the 3D CuCN structure could form the linear CuCN structure. Further heating leaves a residue of elemental copper, isolated as the oxide. three Three More Orange County Beaches Get Approval To Reopen As Supervisors Vote To Send Countywide Rules To Sacramento By feeds.scpr.org Published On :: Wed, 06 May 2020 09:02:07 -0700 Police and lifeguards patrol as people walk on the beach south of Newport Pier on May 3, 2020 in Newport Beach, California. ; Credit: Michael Heiman/Getty Images AirTalk®After the cities of San Clemente and Laguna Beach were given the OK by state officials on Monday to reopen beaches with limited conditions, the California Natural Resources Agency gave Dana Point, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach the green light on Tuesday after approving the plans they submitted for safe reopening. The plans vary as far as when the beach can be used, but the common thread through each is that leisure activities like sunbathing or large gatherings of people would not be allowed, and that beachgoers will be required to remain active while on the sand. The news comes as Orange County Supervisors voted 3-2 on Tuesday to submit a plan to submit to Sacramento that would create a set of uniform rules for reopening beaches countywide. Supervisor Lisa Bartlett spearheaded the proposal, which received pushback from Supervisors Don Wagner and Michelle Steel who argue that after being singled out by Governor Gavin Newsom last week when he ordered a “hard close” on all state and local beaches in Orange County, taking issue with the idea of the county bowing to pressure from the state. Today on AirTalk, we’ll check back in with Supervisor Bartlett, who joined us Monday on AirTalk, to find out more about the specifics of the county’s plan to reopen its beaches. three Three-quarters of all human releases of mercury have occurred since 1850 By ec.europa.eu Published On :: Thur, 21 December 2017 9:23:19 GMT A new study has, for the first time, estimated total anthropogenic releases of mercury over the last 4 000 years, up to 2010. Overall, the study estimates that a total of 1 540 000 tonnes of mercury have been released; three-quarters of this since 1850, and 78 times more than was released through natural causes over this period. Therefore, human activity has been responsible for a significant level of contamination, and this inventory can be used to inform and assess mitigation measures. The publication coincides with the ratification of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and the new EU Mercury Regulation1, which prohibits the export, import and manufacturing of mercury-added products, among other measures.
