Why people get lost

Navigating through hospitals can be a challenging task and stressful experience for patients, visitors, and even staff. With the increasing complexity of hospital layouts and diverse user needs, there is a growing demand for effective and accessible wayfinding solutions.

Misinformation and not up-to-date information are among the most common issues why people get lost. The lack of quality information across platforms allows for disorientation, a feeling of getting lost, and not knowing which source to trust. Some of the issues include:

3. Lack of Pre-Visit Information and Real-Time Guidance: The absence of effective pre-visit directions and real-time navigational assistance exacerbates the confusion, especially for first-time visitors.

• Operational and Staff Impact: Staff spend substantial time assisting lost patients, leading to lost productivity and increased workload. This can result in staff burnout and compromised patient care.

A holistic wayfinding approach that reduces stress and costs while creating a seamless journey experience in hospitals should include:

• Integrated Digital and Physical Signage: Combining clear, large physical signs with digital solutions (like interactive maps and mobile apps) ensures accessibility and real-time guidance for all users​​​​.

The Mammoth Cost of Operating America’s Combat Aircraft shows the operating cost per aircraft in 2018. Over 40 aircrafts were examined, Statista chose to highlight these 15 in their infographic.

The non-partisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released an overview of mission capable rates and the cost of operating U.S. military aircraft. It examined more than 40 different aircraft types, finding that only three of them reached their mission capable goals between fiscal years 2011 and 2019. In total, the report put the collective cost of operating all of the U.S. military's aircraft fleets at $49 billion in fiscal year 2018, taking operational & support (O&S) costs such as maintenance as well as supply support in account. O&S generally makes up 70 percent of a weapon system's total life cycle costs and it includes spare parts, depot and field maintenance, contract services, engineering support and personnel, amongst other factors.

It would be nice to see how many we have in service too. The stacked bars work well. As a reader you can tell the values between operating/support and maintenance, but the total is what matters.

Ransomware has evolved into an ecosystem with multiple players and an expanded threat model. Ransomware groups now deploy a double extortion technique, where they both encrypt and exfiltrate their victims’ data. The Tenable Security Research Team has released a report that enumerates common vulnerabilities exploited by ransomware affiliates and groups. The Ransomware Ecosystem report enables organizations to quickly scan for the vulnerabilities commonly exploited by ransomware groups.

Organizations with effective Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans are protected against threats to availability of data, which can come in many forms, such as natural disasters, hardware failures, or malicious attacks. These organizations could recover operations from a traditional ransomware attack without paying the ransom. However, the vulnerabilities that gave ransomware groups the opportunity to successfully penetrate the infrastructure may still leave organizations open to significant risk. Like any good business, ransomware players discovered the advantage of threatening data confidentiality by publishing samples of their targets’ sensitive data and threatening to expose all the data unless they are paid.

Threat actors understand the economic advantage of investing in the ransomware ecosystem, becoming more sophisticated and efficient over time. Organizations often struggle to secure a budget for resources needed to protect their infrastructure and prevent attacks from succeeding.

The Ransomware Ecosystem report displays assets by plugin family along with associated vulnerabilities. Operations teams use this information to evaluate risk based on the organization’s business priorities. The ability to rapidly mitigate vulnerabilities requires data to be presented in a concise manner focused on findings that pose the greatest risk to the organization. Risk managers leverage risk-based vulnerability management platforms to prioritize mitigation efforts.
