Big fines by regulators on tech companies are nothing new, but the scale of one imposed by a Russian court on Google is astronomical. The non-profit I work for uses Google Workspace, and we could really use somebody with strong Workspace skills to help us optimize some planning spreadsheets. Our particular challenges are around having information cross-populate inside worksheets and across different ones, and ideally finding ways to create templated emails (also in Google Workspace) that pulls info directly from the sheets and sends it to instructors. If this works well we may have other use cases and needs!

There's an illustration I remember fairly vividly from when I was a kid, but I don't remember whether it was a print or in a book. It depicted tiny dragons, smoke curling from their nostrils, lounging around and/or on a big, beautiful book with cabochons and other jewels either set on or around the book, perhaps with candles and greenery nearby as well. The image shows this from the perspective of slightly above and to one side of the book and dragons, but not from directly above. I don't know whether this was a stand-alone illustration or an illustration in the book, nor whether there was more than one such illustration. it might have been inside the front or back cover. I was really into jewels as a kid, and I remember being entranced by this image and spending some time staring at it. This could have been from the '80s or '90s or earlier. Anyone else remember this?

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is taking up New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on his offer to send a team to conduct testing and contact tracing of people exposed to the coronavirus. Cuomo announced Monday that New York State will deploy coronavirus assistance to the capital of Georgia as the state continues to experience an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to the Atlanta area on Wednesday, prominent Georgia Democrats have scheduled a news conference to "slam" what they call the president's "failed coronavirus response," the group announced in a press release. For state Republican leaders, the visit offers an opportunity to showcase Trump before the GOP base as the November election approaches.

I keep returning to two things.

1) building on the idea of community, trying to spread as much love as I can in the world. The time for action will be soon but right now is the time to love each other as much as we possibly can.

2) we aren't the only country to have elected a far-right or fascist leader recently. I'm looking to the people I know who live in other countries with leaders like Trump. There is still joy and possibility in their lives, even though their fight is hard, just like ours will be.

He suffered harassment and attacks during lunch counter sit-ins in Nashville, his skull was fractured by a blow from a Klansman in 1961, and he was badly beaten after crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama on Bloody Sunday .

Quick, possibly embarrassing, question about using Shoe Goo... So, the soles completely (and cleanly) disconnected from the uppers of an old pair of Merrells of mine. Shoe Goo to the rescue, right? But, in typical fashion, I might be overthinking this. To wit...

Do you apply Shoe Goo to both surfaces to be bonded, like you would an epoxy? Or just one surface?

All epoxies I've ever used always make it clear you are to apply it to both surfaces, but the Shoe Goo instructions are kinda vague on the subject. Nowhere can I find instructions that specifically state applying to both surfaces. The instructions merely say "apply to surfaces" but it's unclear if it means both surfaces to be bonded, or is simply referring to the plurality of surfaces you can use the stuff on.

The Ann Arbor School District is transitioning away from the use of fossil fuels. Several hundred climate scientists and public health professionals descended on the Carter Center in Atlanta today. It was for a climate and health conference organized by former Vice President Al Gore.

The day Margo Price walked into the studio to start recording her new album, That's How Rumors Get Started , she had butterflies in her stomach, a mixture of excitement, trepidation — and morning sickness. 12 Minute Travelogues started out in 2008 as an ambient podcast of music made on the road, in hotel rooms, cabins in the woods, laundromats, and while roaming or reflecting on trips taken. There are twelve pieces, each twelve minutes long, miniatures as in "minute," taken from longer improvisations, but edited mainly for time and dialing in the right sound, to assemble a little collection of moments that happened on the roadside, to be released under my ambient monicker, Kantoendrato (Esperanto for "a song in a wire"). I was in a funk yesterday, so called out of work sick, sat out in the yard, and plugged in a synth and a looper to make something as a counter to all the tsunami of unmaking that's coming. I assembled all my various pieces, did some mixing and remastering, put it all together, got it all set up on Bandcamp, and wrapped up what I started back in 2008. I think it stands up as a good work. With the last piece, "Jaunt 12 - Miles To Go," I've covered 144 minutes of slow listening territory between 2008-2024, and there are miles to go before I sleep.
