How small business can thrive for the holidays

The end of the year is a critical time for businesses especially for small businesses that are looking to make the most out of holiday shopping. 23ABC spoke with two business consultants on how small businesses can adapt to make the most out of this final stretch of 2020.

Starting with investing in your community.
Their second piece of advice is to build an honest and transparent relationship with your customers and business neighbors.
As times have slowed down, they are encouraging business owners to take a good look at who their ideal client is and reshape their marketing for them.
Lastly, being collaborative and creative.

How just a few days cost some small businesses thousands on their PPP forgivable loans

For some of the smallest businesses that applied for forgivable loans through the Paycheck Protection Program, waiting just a few days or weeks would’ve gotten them thousands of dollars more.

But they had no way of knowing what was coming.

The Biden administration in late February announced a slew of changes to the loan program, which offered forgivable loans in return for keeping employees on a company’s payroll, after it reopened in January with $284 billion in funding. Those amendments included an adjusted loan formula that would mean larger amounts for sole proprietors as well as expanded eligibility for small business owners with certain criminal records, were delinquent on student loan debt or were non-citizens.

Sandman Audio Day

Today is the day that the first adaptation of Sandman is released.

It's the first three graphic novels, PRELUDES AND NOCTURNES, THE DOLL'S HOUSE and DREAM COUNTRY, released, as  full-cast audio drama, on Audible. The adaptation was written and directed by audio genius Dirk Maggs, and only it's taken 28 years to happen -- since Dirk first pitched Sandman to BBC Radio 4 in 1992. (They said no.)

For years, blind and partially sighted people, or people who for whatever reason couldn't read comics but wanted to still get access to the stories, have asked me if there would ever be an audiobook of the Sandman books. It took a long time, but this is the closest we could come to giving the world the original graphic novels, bumps and all. You don't have the art, alas, but I hope that the performances and the music give you something that translates it to another place.

It should be out now on all the English-language versions of Audible. There should be versions in other languages coming relatively soon.

(It will be out in a few months on CD -- https://www.brilliancepublishing.com/title/50614/alt  -- and I like that they begin their entry: This content is not for kids. It is for mature audiences only. Just like the original graphic novels, this audio adaptation contains explicit language and graphic violence, as well as strong sexual content and themes. Discretion is advised.

Sandman was always "For Mature Readers" and this is no different.

Here's an interview with me (and an extract from "The Sound of Her Wings") at the EW site: https://ew.com/books/neil-gaiman-sandman-audible-adaptation-netflix-show/

So many talented actors and voices are involved.

I'm the narrator -- often reading descriptions of places or characters I wrote in the original scripts long ago for artists to draw, which Dirk has cunningly snuck into the script.

There are hundreds of characters in these eleven hours, brought to you by 68 actors (well, 67 actors and me):

Bad Day at the Office

This is never what you want to see in your inbox:

Today will be a tough day, and by 9pm ET you will have heard if your job is affected. Your leaders and the People team will provide you with all the important details. We are committed to helping those impacted through this with the utmost respect, and supporting them with a runway during the transition.

To break that down:

  • It will be a “tough day” for the recipients.
  • While there is something to be said for a time certain (“by 9pm ET”), it is also a potential axe hanging oh-so precariously over one’s head, with the rope fraying strand-by-strand.
  • Any organization that calls HR “the People team” wants to make it seem as though one would never receive an emailed message of this nature.
  • What is “helping. . .with the utmost respect”? It may sound good. Does this mean there will be no judgment as “We” help pack the corrugated cardboard boxes?
  • And “a runway during the transition” is a prime example of trying to obfuscate what will be absolutely obvious to those who will be affected.

Payday

When we see big dollar amounts, it is difficult to figure out exactly what they mean. . . .

Let’s say that you and three of your pals received degrees in Whatever Studies.

Immediately thereafter the four of you were presented with the opportunity to get jobs at Consolidated Acme.

Now having a degree in Whatever Studies isn’t the sort of thing that opens a whole lot of doors. It is almost by definition something that could fit into a niche and leave a whole lot of room for other things to be inserted.

Throughout your four years you were regularly told by family and friends—and as regards the former, constantly told—that the job opportunities were nearly nil.

But you persisted.

Just prior to commencement the four of you were contacted by Consolidated Acme and presented with an offer that had an unusual stipulation:

Each of you would be paid $200,000 per year. But the thing is, that would never rise. Benefits would change over time, but the $200,000 would be consistent.

Running some checks on Indeed, ZipRecruiter and Monster you find that the starting salary for those in the Whatever field is $60,000 and would generally take 10 years to hit $200,000.

Grand-Daddy Day Care

Skip It

The Movie:

So I think Universal's Grand-Daddy Day Care may be the final part of an unwanted trilogy? Follow me for a second; there was 2003's Daddy Day Care with Eddie Murphy, then 2007's Daddy Day Camp with Cuba Gooding Jr. Now there's this one, and I'd imagine a Grand-Daddy Day Camp isn't far away. Or maybe it is and that's the idea, to make people forget about these things.

Topical Sermon: The Sunday After Easter

For 'The Sunday After Easter', we visit the scenes depicted in John 20, when the risen Lord Jesus Christ appeared to His disciples. On the first occasion, Thomas is missing from the gathering and this causes doubt to rise in his heart and mind. But when Jesus appears again and speaks directly to Thomas, countering his doubts and fears, his faith is embolded to declare 'My Lord and my God!'. Join us as David Legge draws lessons from this encounter for 'The Sunday After Easter'. First Day of School

We started our 2015-2016 school year today! I know July 13th is early but I wanted our first semester to be completed by Charlotte Emma's due date. We finished last school year mid-May so we have had a 2 month summer break.

I have a regular Elementary School this year. :)
Kate-5th, Claire - 4th, Henry - 2nd, Jack - K, and Sims - K4

And every school needs a mascot or two. Here are ours:
Miles - 2, Luke - 8 months
I'm sure they will provide plenty of comic relief to our days.

Today was probably the best first day we've had. Everyone was excited, worked hard, and there was still plenty of time to play all afternoon.

Charlotte's Pictures From the First Few Days

Here are a few pictures from Charlotte's first week. I'm planning to write up the story of her birth in the next few days so I will not forget anything.

This was about 30 mins before Charlotte was born. Rick was most proud that this was his 2nd "selfie." I was in severe pain at this point. They were monitoring Charlotte and I was waiting on the anesthesiologist to come and talk to me. My contractions were 2 minutes apart with almost no downtime in between.

Right after Charlotte was born. She was 7 lbs and 15 oz which puts her as the 4th smallest baby.

Kate and Claire are completely in love with her.

First picture with her 5 big brothers. Can you even imagine? She is going to be one loved and protected little girl. They all ask to hold her multiple times a day (well, not Luke.) The boys only hold her for about 30 seconds and then they are off to something else.  :)

First picture of all 8 children. I cannot believe all of these sweet little ones are ours.

Had My ESA Medical Yesterday.

Regular readers will be aware that I have been campaigning against the austerity cuts our government is imposing on the UK and the effect they are having on disabled people. The benefiits system is being changed, and the benefit I currently recieve is called Income Support, this is being phased out and everyone is being put onto the new disability benefit ESA. As this happens many disabled people are having their benefits cut or completely stopped as a result of being unfairly declared fit for work by the flawed capability assessment, at the same time as services for us are also being cut, a huge accident waiting to happen I'm sure you'll agree.

In fact things are already terrible, people are commiting suicide after having their benefits stopped or just from fear of having to go to the medical. Others have died  from the stress of having to appeal whilst genuinely ill. I read only a couple of days about a woman who died as the stress of all these changes was too much, and a week later her mother also died after witnessing her daughters money being stopped and her eventual death at the stress of appealing.

There are many cases like the one I have mentioned above yet the government are still pressing ahead with these cuts to disability benefits, even though almost daily rich people are being exposed as tax evaders and bankers who have actually failed us terribly are still receiveing pay offs and bonuses.

I finally had my medical yesterday, it wasn't as bad as I thought as the asessment has been changed to suit people with mental illness better (previously everyone was given the same assessment regardless of their disability, which is grossly unfair to people with mental illness). So I wasn't asked to do any strange physical tests as others have, they just asked me about my mental health. The woman was really nice but it's not her decision what happens next.  I will either be put into the "support" group where I will be repeated re-assessed but not have to go to the job center or be forced to try and find work.

Or I could be placed in the "Work related activity group" where I will have to go to work focused interviews and after a year my disability benefits will completely stop and I will have to sign on to the benefit designed for people who are fit to work.

If this happens then it will be the end for me as I am not fit to work, I've chronic anxiety based depression since childhood and as a result of that have social anxiety and insomnia. So I don't sleep, can't get up early and on some days can't even talk to anyone or leave the flat. Unemployment where I live is incredibly high compared to the rest of the country anyway so the chances of a woman who can't be on time for work or even come in some days beating someone who is in goood health are zero, I have no chance of finding work. In fact I don't even meet the criteria to sign on JSA so will probably end up homeless as my rent will not be paid.

I just have to pray it's the support group.

NIP Friday #15 ...

This week’s photo's are an extension of the last installment of Nude In Public Friday. They were taken on the same day, just a little farther down the road.
I'll leave the possible captions for the pictures up to you... hee hee!

I've received a lot of email in response to my "Pop Machine" photo from a few weeks ago.

I would say that it was the most popular Nude In Public Friday so far! For those who have asked, yes, there are more hotel pictures and I'll be sharing them over the next few weeks.

day

NIP Friday #16 ...

Well, it's the end of the week and time again for Nude In Public Friday.
This weeks picture was taken during an evening of flashing a little over a year ago in Denver's North Cherry Creek area.

I think most women, at one time or another, have either performed a quick boob flash in an elevator or have at least been tempted to. I mean it's exciting. There you are in public and all of a sudden you have few moments of privacy to go a little crazy. Add to this the excitement of the possibility of being caught should the elevator doors open, and you can really see why elevators play into so many fantasies .

I've had my share of experiences in elevators and it would be fair to say that I've went down more often than I've gone up in them.

day

NIP Friday #17 ...

I picked this week’s picture for Nude In Public Friday for one reason... it reminded me of the warm summer evening that it was taken. Why do I find this so appealing you may ask? Four inches of fucking snow on May 1st, that's the reason! I awoke yesterday to the snow. I had to drive to a meeting in Castle Rock in it and got stuck in an hour long jam on the way back... Colorado weather, you've got to love it.

If my memory doesn't fail me, this picture was taken last summer on our way to dinner up in Longmont. It was warm, I was horny and I thought that I would show some boobage. I certainly didn't feel that way yesterday.

day

NIP Friday #18 ...

This is the 18th installment of Nude In Public Friday and I've received a lot of positive feedback so far. Out of the previous 17 NIP posts, the two most popular seem to have been the hotel pop machine and elevator pictures.

I suspect that there's some kind of freudian correlation between my tits and the machines going on here, all I know is that I've received more email from those two posts, than all the rest combined.

Most of them wanted to know if I had more of these photo's and would I post them. In an attempt to fulfill these requests, I'll be posting a few more from those two occasions over the next couple of weeks.

day

NIP Sunday #19 ...

Yes, I know that it's normally NIP Friday, but do to circumstances beyond my control, it's just going to have to be NIP Sunday this week.
As promised, here is another of the " Pepsi machine " photos that Rick took of me at the hotel earlier this year.
When I think about it, I've taken quite a few pictures around pop and other types of vending machines in the past.
I also remember a few occasions doing a lot more than just posing around them...
I had wanted a Mountain Dew but the damned machine gave me a Dr. Pepper. Which reminds me of that old and extremely bad joke, "Why does Dr. Pepper come in a bottle?" ... ... "Because his wife died." *** groan ***

day

NIP #20 Sunday... The Move

This is the second week in a row that NIP Friday is being posted on Sunday. Lately my schedule on Friday has just been insane. It also appears that it won't be improving any time soon either. So, to simplify things, I've decided to just go ahead and change it from NIP Fridays to NIP Sundays.
Only the day has changed. Everything else, including the boobs, nudity and public settings will all remain the same.

day

NIP Sunday #21 ...

This weeks Nude in Public Sunday #21, fulfills my earlier promise to post more pop machine shots. I'm surprised at how popular these have been. These were a little trickier because I decided to run down the hall buck naked. I can only imagine what people saw through their "peep holes". They were really fun to do.
In case you were wondering, I was prepared to hide behind the ice machine if need be! Then again, it's the idea of getting caught that makes it such a turn on.

day

NIP Sunday #22 ...

There are aspects of summer that I truly adore. The ability to go out and expose myself without frost bitten nipples is one of them. I also like summer nights, a lot! I love the feeling of being naked under the moon and stars.
Last weekend we went to a party at a friend's house in Colorado Springs.
I knew that we had a long drive back home and I also knew the perfect quiet spot to have sex just off of highway 105 in Douglas County. It was really warm and I was very horny.

I couldn't wait to get to the 4x4 to shed some clothes.
These shots were taken just prior to grabbing a blanket and getting out to get laid.
There is something about hot summer nights that really get my juices going... and going... and going!

Happy Fucking Birthday Time ...

There was a time that I really looked forward to my birthday. When I turned 16, I was ecstatic because I was able to get my drivers license. When I became 18, I was finally considered an adult... for the most part. And on my 21st birthday, I was able to " legally " get into clubs and bars. Alas, those glorious days of positive milestones are gone... long gone!
Now birthdays bring with them more negative than positive connotation's.
This years birthday is a good example. I'm about to become a member of the "Forty Something Crowd"... You know, that group of people who aren't really that old but their not really that young either.
Last year I turned forty. It really wasn't that big of deal. After all, just a year before I had been in my thirties.
Forty Something, on the other hand, has a totally different feel. I'm entering into that obscure age zone where the really crazy shit starts to happen. MILFs start transforming into GILFs. The word cougar takes on a whole new meaning. Hair color goes from fashion choice to necessity. Visions of boob jobs dance in your head. And the term " Her Age" starts being inserted into the most positive statements about you, i.e. "She's fucking hot... for her age".
No, I'm not overly thrilled about my 41st birthday, but I suppose that I'll get used to it. ARGGGGGGGGG ...
