A study published in iScience found that chimpanzees performed better on challenging tasks when observed by humans. The research, conducted by Kyoto University, revealed that the presence of a larger human audience improved performance on difficult tasks, while simpler tasks saw a decline in accuracy. This suggests that the audience effect, often linked to human reputation management, may also exist in non-human primates. The study provides insights into social behaviours that might have evolved before the emergence of human reputation-based societies.

This application under Section 528 of the BNSS, 2023 has been filed by the petitioner, namely, Mohammad Tahzeeb, impugning the order dated 27.09.2024 as well as 04.10.2024 whereby 308.14 tons of coal, which is claimed to be the property of the petitioner, has been given in custody of the respondent No. 2 and the prayer for giving zimma of the same to the petitioner has been rejected.

The learned senior counsel for the petitioner has submitted that the petitioner is the proprietor of Lalpahar Coal Depot, Tinsukia, Assam and operates a lawful business of coal processing and distribution with requisite statutory licenses and authorization including GST registration and NOC from local authorities.

The subscriber reports furnished by the petitioner since the introduction. of new regime from 01.02.2019 as per new Regulations and Tariff Order of 2017 were not in accordance with the legal requirement. In the notice, the respondent had alleged under-reporting of subscribers in respect of its channels and later also alleged that petitioner was redistributing Zee Bangla channel in unencrypted mode. As the earlier orders would disclose, technical audit held under the orders of this Tribunal was not a smooth affair. The audit report of KPMG is on record. The parties have filed their response to the audit report. Some of the initial difficulties in the audit and reasons for delay of several months will appear from orders passed on 23.07.2019 and also some of the subsequent orders. As an interim measure, provisional bills were directed to be raised by the respondent on the basis of subscriber reports of the petitioner but it has been made clear that this arrangement shall not prejudice the claim of the respondent for a higher amount, if justified.
