tests M4 Max MacBook Pro: Real-World Usage Tests By www.macrumors.com Published On :: Wed, 13 Nov 2024 11:59:11 PST Apple last week replaced the M3 Max MacBook Pro with the new M4 Max MacBook Pro, and we picked up one of the new high-end MacBook Pro machines to see how it compares to the prior model with both benchmarks and real-world tests. We tested an M4 Max with a 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, and 48GB RAM against an M3 Max MacBook Pro with similar specs. The two machines look similar, but the display on the M4 version did get some improvements and it's a little bit brighter. There's an option for nano-texture too, which makes a big difference if you ever work outside. Thunderbolt 5 ports instead of Thunderbolt 4 ports allow you to connect more displays (up to three 6K displays) and get faster transfer speeds. Unsurprisingly, the M4 Max performed better across the board on benchmarks, and those higher numbers did indeed translate to actual improvements in day-to-day performance. Creating a slow motion clip from a standard clip in Topaz Labs AI took the M3 Max MacBook Pro a little over six minutes, while the M4 Max MacBook Pro was done in under five minutes. Exporting a 6 minute 4K video with effects, plugins, LUTs, Roto AI masks, Motion VFX, and more from Final Cut Pro took the M3 Max 1:17, while the M4 Max did it in 1:07. It's only a 10 second savings, but that adds up with longer videos and over time. Obviously you're not going to be upgrading to the M4 Max MacBook Pro if you have an M3 Max machine, but it is interesting to see the year-over-year improvements. If you have something like an M1 Pro or an M1 Max and do a lot of CPU/GPU heavy tasks, upgrading to the M4 Max could end up saving you a good amount of time. Let us know what you think of the M4 Max MacBook Pro's performance in the comments below.Related Roundup: MacBook ProBuyer's Guide: MacBook Pro (Buy Now)Related Forum: MacBook ProThis article, "M4 Max MacBook Pro: Real-World Usage Tests" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums Full Article Featured MacBook Pro 14" & 16"

tests JUI-F plans protests against Gaza genocide By www.dawn.com Published On :: Thu, 14 Nov 2024 11:06:26 +0500 MANSEHRA: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl provincial emir Maulana Attaur Rehman on Wednesday said that his party was going to launch a protest movement against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. “I am here to invite you to our Dec 8 conference in Peshawar to demand an end to the killing of Palestinian men, women, and children by Israeli forces in Gaza,” Mr Rehman told a gathering here. JUI-F district emir and former senator Hidayatullah Shah and provincial acting general secretary Maulana Nasir Mehmood also addressed the gathering. Mr Rehman said JUI-F central emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman would address the Peshawar conference. “We expect over one million people will attend the moot from across the country, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to show solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli brutalities,” he said. Moot to be held in Peshawar to show solidarity with Palestinians The JUI leader said his party was striving for the enforcement of Shariah in the country through peaceful and political means, hoping that the struggle would eventually succeed. He said the party chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, helped steer the country out of constitutional and political crises and played a pivotal role in the enactment of 26th Constitutional Amendment, which carried a clause for the elimination of usury from the country. Mr Rehman acknowledged rifts in the party’s Mansehra chapter and promised corrective measures. DRIVE AGAINST ENCROACHMENT: The tehsil municipal administration on Wednesday launched a campaign against encroachments in Mansehra city and its suburbs. “We have removed temporary and permanent illegal structures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic,” tehsil municipal officer Mazhar Muzzaffar Awan told reporters. A joint team from the police and TMA cleared encroachments from along Abbottabad Road, Kashmir Road, and Shinkiari Road. It also took away handcarts and goods placed outside shops and markets, and warned traders of strict legal action in case of road and pavement encroachments in the future. “This anti-encroachment drive will be extended to the areas where traders have already been given notices to voluntarily remove structures obstructing traffic,” he said. Mr Awan said handcarts and fruit and vegetable stalls outside the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital were also removed. “We are also taking strict action against TMA’s officials who either remained absent or failed to attend to their duties regularly and a biometric system has been installed that verifies staff attendance using facial recognition,” he said. The TMO said that officials still absent from duty were served with show-cause notices. “We will terminate employees who remain absent and fail to respond to the notices,” he said. The official said dumping sites were being relocated to protect people’s health and life. “With the rainy season underway in the district, we have cleared all choked drains and sewage lines along the Karakoram Highway,” he said. tests Runtime Tests for Memory Error Handlers of In-Memory Key Value Stores Using MemFI By search.ieice.org Published On :: Naoya NEZU,Hiroshi YAMADA, Vol.E107-D, No.11, pp.1408-1421Modern memory devices such as DRAM are prone to errors that occur because of unintended bit flips during their operation. Since memory errors severely impact in-memory key-value stores (KVSes), software mechanisms for hardening them against memory errors are being explored. However, it is hard to efficiently test the memory error handling code due to its characteristics: the code is event-driven, the handlers depend on the memory object, and in-memory KVSes manage various objects in huge memory space. This paper presents MemFI that supports runtime tests for the memory error handlers of in-memory KVSes. Our approach performs the software fault injection of memory errors at the memory object level to trigger the target handler while smoothly carrying out tests on the same running state. To show the effectiveness of MemFI, we integrate error handling mechanisms into a real-world in-memory KVS, memcached 1.6.9 and Redis 6.2.7, and check their behavior using the MemFI prototypes. The results show that the MemFI-based runtime test allows us to check the behavior of the error handling mechanisms. We also show its efficiency by comparing it to other fault injection approaches based on a trial model. Publication Date: 2024/11/01 Full Article
tests Article Alert: A virtual species set for robust and reproducible species distribution modelling tests By www.eubon.eu Published On :: Fri, 15 Apr 2016 11:22:00 +0300 A new EU BON acknowledging data article provides a virtual species set as a valuable tool in biodiversity monitoring. Abstract Predicting species potential and future distribution has become a relevant tool in biodiversity monitoring and conservation. In this data article we present the suitability map of a virtual species generated based on two bioclimatic variables, and a dataset containing more than 700,000 random observations at the extent of Europe. The dataset includes spatial attributes such as: distance to roads, protected areas, country codes, and the habitat suitability of two spatially clustered species (grassland and forest species) and a wide-spread species.
