Series reminders and series recording from an interactive television program guide

An interactive television program guide system with program series reminder and recording capabilities is provided. The system allows a user to set a reminder or schedule a recording for a single episode or for each episode of a program series. In addition, other options may be provided that allow the user to determine, for example, whether to schedule reminders/recordings for episodes on all channels on which the program airs or only on a selected channels, whether to schedule reminders/recordings for all episodes including reruns or only new episodes, whether to schedule reminders/recordings for network or syndicated episodes, and whether to schedule reminders/recordings for episodes on all days or only on selected days of the week. The system allows a user to view a list of all currently requested program reminders and scheduled program recordings. The user may update, change, or cancel any entry in either list or the system may automatically update the lists to match new broadcast schedule information. If the user sets a reminder or schedules a recording that conflicts with an existing reminder or recording, the system may inform the user of the conflict and allow the user to resolve the conflict or the system may resolve the conflict.

1. Vote in the poll
It's on the left side of the page. I haven't had many voters yet, but the more I get, the more informative it will be for all of us. I plan to write an article about our responses. It will be hard to do that unless I hear from as many of you as possible. I think about 0.5% of my readers or less have voted so far. I was hoping for 20-30% or more.

2. Sign up for the Monthly Newsletter
Sign up on the right side of the page. It's far from Spam, I don't even get one out every month. Most months I send one email that highlights any new information or articles. It keeps you updated on new articles that may be helpful to you or others. I will never sell or share my email list. If you don't want to keep getting it, you can have your email removed easily.

3. Email me article ideas
I want to know what you are looking for. Sometimes, I have writers block. Sending me your ideas will help me tailor my information to my regular readers.

Thanks

Credit when it's due : timely reminders help consumers reduce their credit card debt / Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government, Commonwealth of Australia, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Consumers who only make the minimum repayment on their credit card could be paying hundreds of dollars a year in high interest payments. To help, BETA partnered with the Treasury and Westpac to see if reminders could encourage consumers to pay earlier and save money. We found any type of SMS reminder resulted in a $134 (28 per cent) increase in repayments in the following month, compared to those who received no message. However, different SMS messages all had a similar impact and we were unable to detect an effect from sending email reminders. Overall, the findings suggest that sending an SMS reminder to credit card consumers before their payment due date is a simple, cost-effective way to improve their financial wellbeing.

Computer-Generated Reminders and Quality of Pediatric HIV Care in a Resource-Limited Setting

Of more than 2 million children infected with HIV, almost 90% live in resource-limited settings where pediatric HIV care is often suboptimal. Implementing electronic health records with computerized decision support offers a potential tool for improving care.

This randomized, controlled trial demonstrates that computer-generated clinical reminders can significantly improve clinician compliance with HIV care guidelines for children in a resource-limited setting. Registry-Linked Electronic Influenza Vaccine Provider Reminders: A Cluster-Crossover Trial

Frequency of influenza vaccination is low, partially because of missed opportunities to vaccinate. Barriers to implementing successful influenza vaccination reminders in the electronic health record include alert fatigue and incomplete vaccination information due to scattered records.

A noninterruptive, immunization information system–linked influenza vaccination reminder can increase vaccination late in the winter when fewer vaccine doses are usually administered. Tailoring the reminder to clinicians’ needs can increase its use. (Read the full article)
