December 20, 2005 – A small but significant change was made to the Real ID Act, when Congress modified certain requirements for victims of domestic violence. Specifically, language inserted in another law will allow victims of domestic violence to use a PO Box instead of a physical address when obtaining a driver’s license.

TSA is also giving agencies the flexibility to take a "phased approach" to REAL ID enforcement given the slow progress on transitioning to compliant IDs.

The deadline for Real ID has been postponed for a year and the need for paperwork to visit 26 European countries is also delayed.
