Cally Davis and Catrin Rees called él Records home and its proprietor, UK indie-pop patron saint Mike Alway, their lodestar. Though they didn't make what you'd expect, exactly, if you're familiar with the él catalog, both before and after it was absorbed into the Cherry Red empire. Sure, it's jangly guitar pop with a twee twinkle and primitive production qualities, but these two women had a deranged Rezillos bite and a whimsical songwriting style that's more Todd Rundgren than Morrissey.

The MoJ's planning for recruitment to the bench is no better than their usual planning, unfortunately. When I was sworn in in 1985 I became one of about 29,000 JPs in England and Wales; today the Bench is more like 19,000 strong, the drop being largely due to the increase in out-of-court disposals such as fixed penalties and cautions. In the meantime numbers have gone up and down, and during the years of amalgamating benches just over five years ago there was a virtual freeze on recruitment for some time. Now the system is struggling to recruit enough JPs to do the job. Nowadays, the biggest obstacle is the reluctance of many employers to allow JP employees time off. This even applies to public services such as the fire brigade, who used to be known for being relatively generous with time off for public service, but are now more niggardly.

I shall not fill the blog with the minutiae of how to apply, because the website  (www.gov.uk)  is very good, but I can say that if you are even slightly interested in the justice system you should consider applying. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, and your chances are probably better than you would expect

It was a beautiful morning, one of those mornings where the fog had rolled in sometime prior and settled, nestled in the valley and hugging the lake, giving it a mystical feel.
My husband and I enjoy a beautiful view from Tuscany Hills. We moved here two years ago from Orange County and have never tired of the endless beauty that surrounds our home.
From the back of our home, we have views of Canyon Lake, Mount San Jacinto, Big Bear and, far to our left, Mount Baldy. We watch hawks soar high and ducks and white cranes take flight from Canyon Lake to Lake Elsinore. It seems every morning the view is visited by a new guest that perpetuates this never-ending cascade of attractions. Today was no different.
We sat sipping on our coffee chatting and discussing the day’s tasks. We conversed about the beauty of the mountains, the mystical feel to the lake and today’s surprise guest, a hot air balloon. Typically balloons float toward Menifee, hovering high above the valley east of Canyon Lake, but today’s visitor seemed to be moving in our direction, approaching the lake.
Our excitement heightened as we watched the balloon, seeing the colorful fabric come into clearer view. At this point I decided to document this visitor and ran to get our camera. As the balloon continued to move our way it seemed to be picking up momentum; all the while, I was clicking away with our camera.
The balloon sailed over the lake, coming closer and closer and losing altitude. Our chatter turned to silence as we watched, stunned by the sight. Slowly at first, but then more rapidly, the balloon started to descend until it looked as though it was sitting on the lake. We strained to see if it had actually landed on the lake, wondering out loud if we should call 9-1-1 or the lake “coast guard” or someone! Just as we were about to dial the phone, the balloon started to rise. Slowly at first, then faster and faster until it was high in the sky. Up, up and away it went over our house, continuing to float until it was out of our sight.
Wow! We love this area – what a great place to live! It seems we are always seeing something of beauty or excitement outside our back view – and this was the icing on the lake, I mean, cake!

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases have roots in childhood. Modification of dietary fat intake influences serum lipid and lipoprotein concentrations. Reduction of saturated fat intake is recommended to promote cardiovascular health.

Dietary counseling had a beneficial effect on saturated fat intake from ages 7 months to 19 years. The counseling reduced serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations in both genders. It also decreased computationally estimated concentrations of intermediate-density lipoprotein cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein–triglycerides and apolipoprotein B in boys. The rising burden of allergy is most evident in infancy, indicating the importance of early exposures. Reduced vitamin D status in pregnancy has been associated with atopy and respiratory outcomes, but there is less information on other early allergic outcomes.

Cord blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D₃ concentrations <50 nmol/L were highly prevalent in an Australian population. Lower vitamin D levels were associated with increased risk of eczema at 12 months of age, whereas there was no association with sensitization or food allergy. (Read the full article)

Several studies have reported inverse associations between fish consumption during pregnancy or later childhood and asthma prevalence. However, because fish can also be highly allergenic, the optimal timing of introduction of fish and the adequate amount in infancy remains unclear.

Introduction of fish between 6 and 12 months but not fish consumption afterward is associated with a lower risk of wheezing whereas no introduction of fish or introduction between 0 and 6 months of life increases the risk of wheezing. (Read the full article)

In a previous randomized trial, infants from a low-resource country exclusively breastfed for 6 months had lower iron stores at 6 months compared with breastfeeding infants receiving solid foods. Randomized trials of exclusive breastfeeding in high-income countries are lacking.

In a high-income country, infants who receive complementary foods in addition to breast milk from 4 months of age had higher iron stores at 6 months compared with those exclusively breastfed for 6 months. (Read the full article)

Studies of clinically derived samples of infants with failure to thrive have reported that children remain shorter and lighter than their peers at school-age. Enhanced weight gain ("catch-up") in small infants has been linked to subsequent obesity.

Infants with early weight faltering caught up in weight by 2 years, but height gain remained disproportionally slow. Those with weight faltering later in infancy remained shorter and lighter throughout childhood. Anthropometric outcomes of both groups were within population norms at 13 years. Excessive weight gain over the first 18 months of life may have consequences for later body size. However, the relationship of weight gain in this period to atherogenic risk factors in later childhood is not well characterized.

Early postnatal weight gain from birth to 18 months is independently associated with childhood overweight and obesity, excess central adiposity, and greater arterial wall thickness at age 8 years. (Read the full article)

Several risk factors for both overweight and obesity in childhood are identifiable during infancy.

A simple risk algorithm can be used to quantify risk of overweight in children. It can be used to help identify at-risk infants in a clinical setting to facilitate targeted intervention. (Read the full article)
