MacWise Terminal Emulation for Macintosh Version 10.7.58 Released

This release of MacWise adds a telnet option, "Use the tc shell to log in". When this option is enabled, MacWise first logs into the Mac unix tc shell before issuing telnet commands and opening the connection. This option provides more compatibility with host computers that request the terminal type. It could prevent error messages from the host such as "Connection refused by host" or "Invalid terminal type".

Training Insights – Palladium Emulation Course for Beginner and Advanced Users

The Cadence Palladium Emulation Platform is a hardware system that implements the design, accelerating its execution and verification. Itoffers the highest performance and fastest bring-up times for pre-silicon validation of billion-gate designs, using a custom processor built by Cadence.

This Palladium Introduction course is based on the Palladium 23.03 ISR4 version and covers the following modules:

  • Introduction
  • Palladium flow
  • Running a design on the Palladium system

This course starts with an “Introduction” module that explains Palladium and other verification platforms to show its place in the big picture. It also compares Palladium with Protium and simulation and discusses its usage and limitations.

The “Palladium Flow” module includes two stages at a high level, which are Compile and Run. Then, it covers these stages in detail. First, it covers the ICE compile flow and IXCOM compile flow steps in detail. Then it explains Run, which is common for both ICE and IXCOM modes.

The third module, “Running Design on the Palladium System,” covers all the items required for running your design on the Palladium system, including:

  • Software stack requirements
  • Basic concepts required to understand the flow
  • Compute machine requirements

In addition, this course contains labs for both the ICE and IXCOM flows with detailed steps to exercise the features provided by the Palladium system. The lab explains a practical example of multiple counters and exercising their signals for force, monitor, and deposit features, along with frequency calculation using a real-time clock. Leveraging transactional memory hardware to accelerate virtualization and emulation

Various technologies and techniques are disclosed for using transactional memory hardware to accelerate virtualization or emulation. State isolation can be facilitated by providing isolated private state on transactional memory hardware and storing the stack of a host that is performing an emulation in the isolated private state. Memory accesses performed by a central processing unit can be monitored by software to detect that a guest being emulated has made a self modification to its own code sequence. Transactional memory hardware can be used to facilitate dispatch table updates in multithreaded environments by taking advantage of the atomic commit feature. An emulator is provided that uses a dispatch table stored in main memory to convert a guest program counter into a host program counter. The dispatch table is accessed to see if the dispatch table contains a particular host program counter for a particular guest program counter.

A method for creating laboratory-scale reactive distillation apparatus from provided modular components is described. At least two types of modular distillation column stages are provided. A first type of modular stage comprises two physical interfaces for connection with a respective physical interface of another modular stage. A second type modular stage comprises one such physical interface. At least one type of tray is provided for insertion into the first type of modular stage. A clamping arrangement is provided for joining together two modular stages at their respective physical interfaces for connection to form a joint. The invention provides for at least three modular stages can be joined. At least one sensor or sensor array can be inserted into each modular stage. At least one controllable element can be inserted into each modular stage. The invention provides for study of traditional, advanced, and photochemical types of reactive distillation.

Bayesian Design of Experiments for Intractable Likelihood Models Using Coupled Auxiliary Models and Multivariate Emulation

Abstract:
A Bayesian design is given by maximising an expected utility over a design space. The utility is chosen to represent the aim of the experiment and its expectation is taken with respect to all unknowns: responses, parameters and/or models. Although straightforward in principle, there are several challenges to finding Bayesian designs in practice. Firstly, the utility and expected utility are rarely available in closed form and require approximation. Secondly, the design space can be of high-dimensionality. In the case of intractable likelihood models, these problems are compounded by the fact that the likelihood function, whose evaluation is required to approximate the expected utility, is not available in closed form. A strategy is proposed to find Bayesian designs for intractable likelihood models. It relies on the development of an automatic, auxiliary modelling approach, using multivariate Gaussian process emulators, to approximate the likelihood function. This is then combined with a copula-based approach to approximate the marginal likelihood (a quantity commonly required to evaluate many utility functions). These approximations are demonstrated on examples of stochastic process models involving experimental aims of both parameter estimation and model comparison.

Abstract:
Gaussian stochastic process (GaSP) has been widely used in two fundamental problems in uncertainty quantification, namely the emulation and calibration of mathematical models. Some objective priors, such as the reference prior, are studied in the context of emulating (approximating) computationally expensive mathematical models. In this work, we introduce a new class of priors, called the jointly robust prior, for both the emulation and calibration. This prior is designed to maintain various advantages from the reference prior. In emulation, the jointly robust prior has an appropriate tail decay rate as the reference prior, and is computationally simpler than the reference prior in parameter estimation. Moreover, the marginal posterior mode estimation with the jointly robust prior can separate the influential and inert inputs in mathematical models, while the reference prior does not have this property. We establish the posterior propriety for a large class of priors in calibration, including the reference prior and jointly robust prior in general scenarios, but the jointly robust prior is preferred because the calibrated mathematical model typically predicts the reality well. The jointly robust prior is used as the default prior in two new R packages, called “RobustGaSP” and “RobustCalibration”, available on CRAN for emulation and calibration, respectively.
