A new book by Steve Clem, "Tulsa's KAKC Radio, The Big 97" is now available. Attend a book signing at Tulsa Historical Society on Tuesday, April 16, 6:30 pm. Steve and several of the former KAKC DJs will also be on hand to sign books, including Scooter Segraves, Dick Schmitz and Mike McCarthy.

"UHF" RSU-TV telethon tonight

7:00 pm Sat, 10/5: RSU-TV is running a live pledge drive celebrating the 25th anniversary of Weird Al's movie "UHF", shot in Tulsa. There will be actors from the movie, talent acts and surprises. Premiums include location tours hosted by Emily Elliott and myself. Channel 35.1 broadcast, 109 or 793 on Cox, 35 on DISH and DirecTV.Also streamed live on RSU's web site. Free tickets still available.

Russell Bates, Native American writer

I just heard from Russell Bates of Lawton on LinkedIn. I know him from my Wilson Center dorm days at OU in the early 1970s. He was then already a published writer, and later won an Emmy for a Star Trek animated series episode he co-wrote. I found a profile of Russell on a 2011 episode of OETA's "Gallery" series. "Time Channel" spoof creator Dave McFadden passes

Joe Winett reports that Dave McFadden, creator of "The Time Channel" spoof, passed away on Friday. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Dave was also part of "Make Me Smile", a comedy show taped in the basement of the Tulsa Library.

In March, the Saturn Room will start as a cocktail lounge. Food will be introduced in 3 to 6 months. The bar will feature mid-century umbrella drinks such as Tequila Sunrise and Mai Tai, as well as "modern pyrotechnics."

Gary Elliott, KTUL soundman, passes away

Sorry to be late in reporting the passing of Gary Elliott. He was a long-time audio engineer at KTUL as well as a singer/songwriter. I worked with him and his wife Emily on the RSUTV/UHF Weird Al locations tour last year. Rest in peace, Gary.
