A lawyer’s duty to avoid conflicts of interest is an important aspect of the duty of loyalty that lawyers owe to their clients. For Canadian in-house counsel, the duty to avoid conflicts of interest presents special challenges due to the nature of the relationship of in-house counsel to their employer.
