ee Little Richard, The 'King And Queen' Of Rock And Roll, Dead At 87 By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Sat, 09 May 2020 16:27:00 +0000 Updated at 1:55 p.m. ET Little Richard, the self-described "king and queen" of rock and roll and an outsize influence on everyone from David Bowie to Prince, died Saturday. He was 87 years old. Wayne Chaney, his longtime bandleader and tour manager, tells NPR that Little Richard died at his brother's home in Tullahoma, Tenn., after a battle with cancer. Rolling Stone was the first to report of Little Richard's death. With his ferocious piano playing, growling and gospel-strong vocals, pancake makeup and outlandish costumes, Little Richard tore down barriers starting in the 1950s. That is no small feat for any artist — let alone a black, openly gay man who grew up in the South. He was a force of nature who outlived many of the musicians he inspired, from Otis Redding to the late Prince and Michael Jackson. His peers James Brown and Otis Redding idolized him. Jimi Hendrix, who once played in Little Richard's band, said he wanted his guitar to sound like Richard's voice. The late David Full Article

ee Looking for summarization of audio of 2-hour meeting (Anytown, USA) By jobs.metafilter.com Published On :: Wed, 06 May 2020 14:26:38 -0800 My employer is used to meetings in person, but during the CoronApocalypse has begun taking meetings in Zoom like many others. I just got through with a 2-hour (actually 1:51) meeting and my employer would like a summary -- not a transcription, but a summary -- of what was said. The idea is that they would be able to look at this summary and recall the flow of the discussion, what people were communicating at different points, we do not need word-for-word. Challenges: (1) Recorded via a voice dictation stood up next to a laptop. (2) 4 voices doing most of the talking, with a few others occasionally coming in. Unfortunately the main voices interrupt and try to talk over each other, which went poorly over Zoom. Fortunately the voices are distinct, and I can let you know who's who so you can label them appropriately. (3) Some technical jargon related to construction, land/soil shifting and the law regarding buildings. Let me know your estimate for this work, and when we reach agreement I can send you an 80MB MP3 file through Dropbox or Google Drive. Deadline: done by this Friday evening We also have another meeting with the same people scheduled for next week. ee Fifteen Monsters All In A Row By projects.metafilter.com Published On :: Thu, 30 Apr 2020 15:02:15 GMT Fifteen Monsters All In A Row is a short text adventure/twine game (which should work in any browser), where you have to confront fifteen monsters (in a row), which I made for/with my five year old niece and two year old nephew, who designed the monsters, and wrote some of the stories. The game contains 15 monsters (all in a row), several secret monsters (occasionally in a row), multiple solutions to every problem (almost), some exciting stories (occasionally), at least two jokes, and even a super secret special ending. A couple of years ago (this was designed in 2018, and made in 2019, and then bugfixed and released in 2020), my niece (then 5) and my nephew (who was 2), wanted to design a computer game, so we designed a computer game (the original design document can be seen if you click credits, then design document, on the opening page of the game file, and their original monster art and designs are the ones used in the game itself). Then I spent so long getting round to actually making it that now she's 7, and he's 4, but it's finished now so here it is. ee Minnesota Gov. Walz Says More Testing Is Needed Before Many Businesses Can Reopen By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Fri, 08 May 2020 11:54:00 +0000 As Minnesota Gov. Walz weighs his decision on when to let nonessential businesses reopen, he's facing a lot of pressure from a frustrated workforce, especially from small business owners who are trying to stay afloat during the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. "The frustrations that they have are real. These are businesses that, they may have been in families for generations or they built up," the Democratic governor says in an interview with Morning Edition . The state is under a stay-at-home order until at least May 18 . In reopening the economy, he says, businesses will face another challenge: consumer confidence. Walz worries that — even with stay-at-home orders lifted — many consumers will be skittish about reengaging with businesses until they feel safe. Walz says many businesses should remain closed until the state ramps up its testing capacity. Achieving that goal will help contain the virus's spread, as well as bolster the public's confidence, he says. Full Article

ee TEENEAR RELEASES COME SEE ME SINGLE By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Wed, 29 Apr 2020 21:10:23 PDT TEENEAR RELEASES NEW "COME SEE ME" SINGLE. About TEENEAR: Hailing from Miami, Florida, by way of Jamaica, singer-songwriter Teenear, is already laying the groundwork for a career that bucks the status quo. Inspired by artists ranging from Rihanna to SZA, Kiana Lede, and more, her genre-bending offerings run the gamut from future-pop to experimental R&B and soul. Not only that, they’ve already caught the ear of collaborators like Sage the Gemini, Lil Baby, Fetty Wap, and her labelmate rap veteran Trina, who was featured on the singer’s dancehall inspired “Streetlights” remix in 2016. From childhood music has been hugely influential in Teenear’s life; she spent much of her time in the church, something that still inspires her approach to songwriting today. “My first memories of singing for people were in my church and that really instilled confidence in me, and it also made me eager to not grow up too fast in my music” the singer said, crediting her close-knit community for her creative development. Not only did she find her voice in the church choir, Teenear also joined the praise dancing team, honing a singing and dancing foundation that would help her transition into her role as the first-ever singer signed to legendary Miami-based record label Slip N’ Slide, home to Miami legends Trick Daddy and Trina, Encouraged by her parents, who have supported her dream of being an entertainer since her early teens, Teenear launched a YouTube channel in 2013. The channel was meant to show the labels who were already expressing preliminary interest that she was serious about artist development. The young Teenear soon racked up a following performing covers of songs from her favorite artists, and within a year, Teenear’s rendition of Rihanna’s hit single “Stay” had gone viral. With several labels knocking at her door, the Miami native eventually chose Slip N’ Slide, which immediately felt like home. “We’re like a real family,” Teenear explained. “I just knew it was important for me to be somewhere where I felt like people were really looking out for me and Trick and Trina have been amazing mentors,” she continued. In 2015, the same year she finished high school, the then 18-year-old singer debuted her first single through Slip N’ Slide, “Friday Night”. Featuring rapper Sage the Gemini the uptempo, pop-inflected offering also marked Teenear’s debut as a songwriter, a skill she would continue to refine in 2016’s “Streetlights” as well as “Something Else” and the Fetty Wap featured “Love Me or Leave Me” in 2017. Last year, Teenear also debuted “Dolla Signs”, a track that she describes as a step in a more grown up direction. “I think a lot of times we hear songs about the guy going out and getting the money and hustling so I wanted to make a song that’s like that from a woman's point of view. I wanted it to kind of get at the idea that even though you can be a boss and all that you still want to get away and have those special moments with someone,” she explained. This year Teenear is set to release her debut EP, which will explore themes of love and relationships with a fresh, more adult set of eyes. ee LYNE EXPLORES LOVE’S CONTRADICTIONS ON HER DEBUT EP ‘BIPO FEELS’ By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Fri, 01 May 2020 11:49:37 PDT CHAMPIONED BY CAPITAL XTRA, REPREZENT RADIO, MNM BELGIUM, TARMAC, PULSE88 RADIO STREAM HERE: https://open.spotify.com/album/7m6DPu3m1iE76vZDiWRaJ9?si=O7cOB7WgSviNrtRfou8ICA Introducing 23-year old London-based Belgian Congolese songstress LYNE, who – after teasing us with three well-received introductory singles in the past couple of years that have seen her garner strong support from the likes of Capital Xtra, Reprezent Radio, MNM Belgium, Tarmac, and Pulse88 Radio, among others – is excited to unveil her brand new debut EP titled Bipo Feels, a phrase which Lyne coined about the way relationships can have us feeling bipolar, with completely opposing emotions all the time. Produced by frequent collaborator D.E.W.I, Lyne’s Bipo Feels EP is an exquisite and expansive R&B offering, with lush afrobeats, soul and rap sensibilities sprinkled across the project, to make it all the more interesting of a listening experience for fans and critics alike. Led by Lyne’s angelic and immersive voice, and her honest and relatable songwriting, as well as D.E.W.I’s glorious musical backdrops, the Bipo Feels EP sees Lyne at her most vulnerable, as she opens up about an undecisive time in her life, which she describes as “those moments where you can have different feelings towards a man you love”. From Lyne expressing how she is hopelessly in love with her man on the opening track ‘Together’, to the following track ‘Not Sorry’, which sees Lyne expressing her frustration with this same man, leading her to even switch between English and her native French language to convey her annoyances, the theme of the EP quickly flips on its head, and by the third track ‘All Mine’, Lyne has done a complete 180-degree switch, as she now professes to want this same man all for herself, but on the EP’s final track ‘9PM’, she finds out her man is cheating on her, and all hell breaks loose, with seemingly fatal consequences. Speaking about the inspiration behind her Bipo Feels EP, Lyne says, “Writing this EP really helped me release some thoughts I feel like I couldn’t really open up about. Having doubts, and not being able to see clearly, while feeling different emotions at the same time, all caused by the same person, can be very frustrating. We say that there is a thin line between love and hate and I totally believe that. Intense love can seem so lasting and forever that it’s almost surrealistic when we realize how quickly it can turn into anger. I want this EP to be a message of support to anyone feeling that confusion about what their heart is saying, at times. You are not alone but keep praying and God will show you what you need to see”. ‘BIPO FEELS’ EP TRACKLIST Together Not Sorry All Mine 9PM CONNECT WITH LYNE Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/lynensongo Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lynensongo Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/lynensongo Website: http://www.lyne.tv STREAM HERE: https://open.spotify.com/album/7m6DPu3m1iE76vZDiWRaJ9?si=O7cOB7WgSviNrtRfou8ICA The post LYNE EXPLORES LOVE’S CONTRADICTIONS ON HER DEBUT EP ‘BIPO FEELS’ appeared first on Singersroom.com. ee Tennessee Surf Rock With Repeat Repeat By feedproxy.google.com Published On :: Tue, 15 Mar 2016 20:46:46 +0000 Repeat Repeat started its life as surf rock from high atop the Cumberland Plateau. East Nashville, Tenn. to be exact. As they get ready for their next album, titled Floral Canyon and tentatively set for a July release, the band is growing past the purely sunny sounds of their debut Bad Latitude, changes you can hear in the Field Session recorded with the Field Note Stenographers. On the track "Mostly", Jared and Kristyn Corder sing about a tumultuous relationship. Chunky, doomy guitar and bass accentuate the drama. On "Plugged In", the band rips through a summer jam that asks us to think hard about the beliefs we hold dear, why we have them and why we try to convince others of their truth. Repeat Repeat is on the road through April, then back in their Tennessee home for a while. They expect to be out again this summer in support of Floral Canyon after its release. You can find their music on Bandcamp. Check out the entire Field Session recorded with the Field Note Stenographers. Full Article
