Innovus 'syntax error'. but works in Genus

Hi everyone,

I'm new to using Innovus and I'm encountering an issue while trying to perform the "init_design" command. My goal is to perform the place and route. Here are the commands I'm using:

``
set init_verilog ./test.v
set init_top_cell TEST
set init_pwr_net {VDD VDD_2 VDD_3}
set init_gnd_net {VSS VSSA}
set init_lef_file { /home/laumecha/uw_openroad_free45/pdk/Drexel-ECEC575/Encounter/NangateOpenCellLibrary/Back_End/lef/NangateOpenCellLibrary.lef}
set init_mmmc_file {./viewDefinition.tcl}
init_design
```
However, I receive the following error:
```

However, the file works perfectly in Genus.

It seems there is a syntax error in my Verilog file at line 16, but I'm not sure how to resolve it. Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Virtuoso Fluid Guard Ring Layout error "do_something=nil"

Hello,

When I draw a Fluid Guard Ring in Virtuoso, the layout is not visible, and instead, "do_something=nil" appears.

When I check the details with Q, it shows the same information as a regular NFGR guard ring, and Ctrl+F also displays the instance name, just like with a regular NFGR.

Additionally, the Pcells of Fluid Guard Rings from previous projects appear broken.

The version I’m currently using is not different from the one used in the past. Even when I access the same version as the one used during the project, the Pcells still appear broken.

These two issues are occurring, and I’m not sure what to check. I would greatly appreciate it if you could assist me in resolving this issue.

//

Reinstalling the PDK resolved the issue!

I’m not exactly sure what the problem was, but I suspect there might have been an internal issue with permissions or the PDK path.

Error ASSEMBLER-1600 when running script with two different MC simulations

Hello Community,

I have encountered an issue that is a mystery to me and hope somebody could give me a clue about what is happening in Cadence and maybe even a solution?

I am running a test scripted in a SKILL file that sequentially opens two different projects with MC analyses and in between I get an error message box and also multiple logs in CIW with exactly the same text.

Both projects run a simulation with a call like this:

historyName = maeRunSimulation(?session sessionName ?waitUntilDone t)

After this the script closes the current project, opens the next project and executes the same line with maeRunSimulation() for the second project. Then immediately this error message happens, and also is logged repeatedly in the CIW window

The message box looks like this:

The logs I get in CIW:

This issue started to occur after I changed parts that exist on previously created PCBs. I changed the following leading up to this:

1. Added height in Allegro to many of my components using the Setup->Area->Package Height tool.

2. Changed the reference designator category in OrCAD Capture to TP for several components on board.

Any advice here would be most welcome. Thanks!

Netlisting error when doing parametric sweep on transient simulation

Dear all,

I defined two design variables in ADE Assembler, say V1 and V2, that define the voltage 1 and voltage 2 of a "vpulse" voltage source in my schematic.

Then, I define V1 = 1.0, and V2 = 2.0, run a transient simulation, and everything is as expexcted. The source provides pulses between 1.0 V and 2.0 V.

Next, I set V1 = 1.0:0.5:1.5, thereby creating a parametric sweep with 1.0 V and 1.5 V for V1. I keep V2 at 2.0 V. Then the simulation fails, and all I get is "netl err" in my Output Expressions and an error message that the results directory does not exist and nothing can be plotted: This is reasonable, as the results directory is deleted on starting a new simulation, and as there is no simulation result, none of my output expressions can be plotted.

WARNING (OCN-6040): The specified directory does not exist, or the directory does not contain valid PSF results.
        Ensure that the path to the directory is correct and the directory has a logFile and PSF result files.
WARNING (ADE-1065): No simulation results are available.
ERROR (WIA-1175): Cannot plot waveform signals because no waveform data is available for plotting.
One of the possible reasons can be that 'Save' check box for these signals are not selected in the Outputs Setup pane. Ensure that these check boxes are selected before you run the simulation.

Normally, this kind of para,metric sweep is not a problem, I have done this many times before. There must be something special in THIS PARTICULAR test bench or simulator setup. The trouble is, I don't get any useful error messages.

Does anyone know what might be the problem here OR where to find useful information to investigate further (log files stored somewhere)? Thank you!

Regards,

Volker

P.S. Using Corners instead does not help either. Running it through all values by hand works, though.

error when generating snp files from a variable

Hello everyone,
I have a testbench for generating s2p files from a SP simulation that was working until few months ago. Today I have reopened (w/o making changes that I am aware of) and I get the error as shown below:

first I show the testbench settings:

notice how the s2p generation is disabled: the field "file" is left blank

in the corner I defined some parameters, "filename" is the word that is suppose to generate the name for the s2p.

where the two variables are defined as follows

And now the output log:

spectre.out file gives the following error:

When clicking on the error message at "9", the input.scs file opens up and the line 9 gets highlighted in green

now, so far I understood that the problem seem to be related tom the "pathcds" variable, but I really don't understand what the error message here means, since I don't see any error in the input.scs file

by the way - if for instance I define the variable "filename" as shown below, then I get no errors:

thanks
Tommaso

vManager crashes when analyzing multiple sessions simultaneously with a fatal error detected by the Java Runtime Environment

When analyzing multiple sessions simultaneously Verisium Manager crashed and reported below error messages:

# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

# Problematic frame:
# C  [libucis.so+0x238b74]

......

For more details please refer to the attached log file "hs_err_pid21143.log".

Two approaches were tried to solve this problem but neither has worked.
Method.1:

Setting larger heap size of Java process by "-memlimit" options.For example "vmanager -memlimit 8G".

Method.2:

Enlarging stack memory size limit of the Coverage engine by setting "IMC_NATIVE_STACKSIZE" environment variable to a larger value. For example "setenv IMC_NATIVE_STACKSIZE 1024000"

According to "hs_err_pid*.log" it is almost certain that the memory overflow triggered Java's CrashOnOutOfMemoryError and caused Verisium Manager to crash. There are some arguments about memory management of Java like "Xms, Xmx, ThreadStackSize, Xss5048k etc" and maybe this problem can be fixed by setting these arguments during analysis. However, how exactly does Verisium Manager specify these arguments during analysis? I tried to set them by the form of setting environment variables before analysis but it didn't work in analysis and their values didn't change.

Is there something wrong with my operation or is there a better solution?

Thank you very much.

Pakistan: Terrorist Attack from Across Iran Border Kills 4 Soldiers

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan said Saturday that four of its soldiers were killed when a "group of terrorists" from across the Iranian side of the border attacked a routine military patrol operating between the two countries.    The deadly cross-border raid took place in the remote Kech district in southwestern Baluchistan province abutting Iran, the Pakistani military said in a statement.  "Necessary contact with the Iranian side is being made for effective action against terrorists on the Iranian side and to prevent such incidents in the future," the statement said, without providing further details.      The Iranian Embassy in Islamabad condemned the attack and expressed sympathy to the families of the slain soldiers.     "Terrorism is the common pain of the two countries and the two Muslim nations have sacrificed precious lives in the fight against this plague," the Iranian Embassy said on Twitter.     "Undoubtedly, strengthening the joint cooperation between the two countries will prevent terrorist groups from achieving their sinister goals," wrote the Iranian diplomatic mission.    Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed “grief and sorrow over the martyrdom” of the security personnel in the terrorist attack, his office said in a statement.  No group immediately took responsibility for Saturday's attack, the second incident this year in Baluchistan, where ethnic Baluch separatists routinely target Pakistani security forces.    In mid-January, four Pakistani troops were killed when a military convoy patrolling along the more than 900-kilometer border came under an insurgent attack from across the Iranian side.     The outlawed Baluchistan Liberation Army, or BLA, routinely takes credit for attacks on Pakistani security forces. Officials in Islamabad say the group has set up sanctuaries in border areas of Iran, charges Tehran rejects.   The Global Terrorism Index, released in March by the Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace, said that BLA was responsible for 36% of nearly 650 terror-related deaths in Pakistan in 2022, making it "the fastest-growing terrorist group in the world."    Pakistan, the United States, and Britain have designated the BLA as a terrorist organization.    Baluch insurgents claim to be fighting for the independence of Baluchistan, alleging extortion by the central government of the region's natural resources and discrimination against its ethnic Baluch population. Pakistani authorities reject the charges.     The sparsely populated province, which also shares a significant chunk of the country's nearly 2,600-kilometer border with Afghanistan, is at the center of a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure development project being funded by China in Pakistan under Beijing's global Belt and Road Initiative.

In speaking about those threats, Wray has repeatedly drawn attention to security gaps at the United States’ southern border, where thousands of people each week enter the country undetected.

TDS - Form 26QB - Installment - Final payment Error

I had bought a Pre-const house for 55lac and paid Stamp duty on 55lac during registration.
I made 54,00,00 payments in installments and now making the last installment of 1 lac

On the 26QB form

Total Value of Consideration (Property Value) -₹55,00,000
Payment type*-Installment
Whether it is last installment ?*-Yes
Whether stamp duty value is higher than sale consideration ?* - Dont know what to choose
Total amount paid/ credited in previous installments, if any (A) * ₹54,00,000
Amount paid/credited currently (B) *-₹1,00,000
Total stamp duty value of the property (C) *₹55,00,000

Now under
Tax Deposit Details, I am getting
Amount on which TDS to be deducted (D)*₹55,00,000, which looks wrong.

Should this not be the amount currently paid ₹1,00,000. What am I doing wrong?

Note*I was suggested in the forum to enter ₹1,00,000 in box (C), but it still calculates the total amount of ₹55,00,000 in (D)

Error'd: What Goes Around

No obvious pattern fell out of last week's submissions for Error'd, but I did especially like Caleb Su's example.

Michael R. , apparently still job hunting, reports "I have signed up to outlier.ai to make some $$$ on the side. No instructions necessary."

Peter G. repeats a recurring theme of lost packages, saying "(Insert obligatory snark about Americans and geography. No, New Zealand isn't located in Washington DC)." A very odd coincidence, since neither the lat/long nor the zip code are particularly interesting.

"The Past Is Mutable," declares Caleb Su , explaining "In the race to compete with Gmail feature scheduling emails to send in the *future*, Outlook now lets you send emails in the past! Clearly, someone at Microsoft deserves a Nobel Prize for defying the basic laws of unidirectional time." That's thinking different.

Explorer xOneca explains this snapshot: "Was going to watch a Youtube video in DuckDuckGo, and while diagnosing why it wasn't playing I found this. It seems that youtube-nocookie.com actually *sets* cookies..?"

Morgan either found or made a funny. But it is a funny. "Now when I think about it I do like Option 3 more…" I rate this question a ????

Error'd: Alternative Maths

"Check out Visual Studio optimizing their rating system to only include the ratings used," shared Fiorenzo R. Imagine the performance gain!

"This sounds about right," says Colin A.

"Wow! Must snap up some sweet Anker kit with this amazing offer; but less than four days to go!" exclaims Dave L., who then goes on to explain
"The actual WTF is this though. I sent this image to Anker with this email: But only 3days left? I hope this offer continues!
Anker replied: Thank you for your feedback! I understand that you appreciate the savings on the Anker SOLIX PS100 Portable Solar Panel and wish the offer could be extended beyond the current 3-day limit. Your suggestion is valuable and will be considered for future promotions to enhance customer satisfaction. If you have any other requests or need further assistance, please let me know.
I for one welcome our new AI overlords. "

Graham F. almost stashed this away for later. "Looks like Dropbox could use a few lessons in how to do Maths! Although maybe their definition of 'almost' differs from mine."

Finally Joshua found time to report a brand-new date-handling bug. "Teams is so buggy; this one just takes the cake. I had to check with the unix cal program to make sure I wasn't completely bonkers." For the readers, November 8 this year is supposed to be a Friday. I suppose things could change after the US election.

Have a great weekend. Maybe I'll see you next Friday, or maybe all the weekdays will be renamed Thursday.

Error'd: Relatively Speaking

Amateur physicist B.J. is going on vacation, but he likes to plan things right down to the zeptosecond. "Assume the flight accelerates at a constant speed for the first half of the flight, and decelerates at the same rate for the second half. 1) What speed does the plane need to reach to have that level of time dilation? 2) What is the distance between the airports?"

Contrarily, Eddie R. was tired of vacation so got a new job, but right away he's having second thoughts. "Doing my onboarding, but they seem to have trouble with the idea of optional."

"Forget UTF-8! Have you heard about the new, hot encoding standard for 2024?!" exclaimed Daniel , kvetching "Well, if you haven't then Gravity Forms co. is going to change your mind: URLEncode everything now! Specially if you need to display some diacritics on your website. Throw away the old, forgotten UTF-8. Be a cool guy, just use that urlencode!"

Immediately afterward, Daniel also sent us another good example, this time from Hetzner. He complains "Hetzner says the value is invalid. Of course they won't say what is or isn't allowed. It wasn't the slash character, it was... a character with diacritics! Hetzner is clearly using US-ASCII created in 1960's."

Finally this week, we pulled something out of the archive from Boule de Berlin who wrote "Telekom, the biggest German ISP, shows email address validation is hard. They use a regex that limits the TLD part of an email address to 4 chars." Old but timeless.
